They did not draft for need, they drafted the best player available. 38 points against Duke and Carolina. Whew! This guy is going to be special. My favorites didnt get drafted either, but this guy can really play and he comes from a championship team

maybe they felt that those guys didn't fit to the piece of the puzzle to address their needs

wow...im shocked

Clippers just lost the only chance they had to actually pick someone who would be a difference maker this season by not picking Nick Young!

Im sorry ...but I dont see the clippers making it passed 1st round. Mobley cant play any longer...age is the main factor, and now, not picking Nick Young is the biggest mistake ever!

Name one big time scorer in the Clippers...and NO do not say Maggette. They just wasted a good pick. I was happy New Orleans didnt pick Nick Young and hoped the clips would...but now...tsk tsk Im just devastated..

man...woulda been the best pick the clippers made all time..

They need to get rid of Dunleavy & Baylor...NOW!

I have nothing against Thornton...I just dont think we need a big guy when we have Elton Brand, Tim Thomas, James Singleton to play the PF. Maybe a trade looms...we definitely need to re-sign Hart unless we can get Billups. If we can somehow get Darren Collison next year and Guillermo Diaz turns into a madman at SG...we got a great thing going....but the Clips really need to prepare for the future with young talent. Especially at guard.

Remember guys, Corey can still opt out next year. This pick could mean they are still going to trade him and possibly protect themselves against that possibility

I mostly agree - Clips84...we turned down a pure shooter who has experience....EXACTLY WHAT WE NEEDED!!! But I dont think Mobley is done yet...give him two more productive years then he'll start to wear down a lot...but he still has a lot of game.

What I heard it seems all they cared about was taking the best player available at 14 so that should answer your question

OK, there is a little lull in the action for us Clipper fans, so for you guys who have been online for a couple of hours, go take a dinner break and we need to meet back here in about an hour. We need a great 2nd round pick. Go look at the Mocks and check out K Fresenko, the 7"1" Ukraninan center. He is the guy that the scouting reports say is the sleeper and he could back up Kaman quite nicely.. out

Al Thornton could be a backup PF and SF- the guy looks like a beast! Did you guys see his 3 point shooting %? It's like 44%. I like this pick. He's like another Maggette, but can play PF. You have to wonder what Tim Thomas and J Sing are thinking right now, however.

calm down Clips season hasn't started and the free agent market hasn't started. Plus we have Diaz and Baby Shaq so far we can't go wrong and we still have Livingston not a wasted pick in my opinion but a good pick.

Man I do need a break...that Thornton pick blew me outta the water. Thornton over Nick Young...i'm at a loss for words now...The Wiz got him now and I can picture Arenas and him throwing up shots from all over. Arenas, Young, Caron Butler, Jamison and Brendan Haywood....that aint bad for a starting lineup.

if that happens are they going to get rid of Davis or Williams they can't have too many centers

it's something that we can't control we have to understand that because we're not a GM but we're fans supporting them.

Yeah that is the truth...I just hope they know what they're doing...I'll never stop being a Clippers fan, but it's so hard knowing we're very close to squashing years and years of failure.

Singleton's thinking about dunking something...like Baylor's head, then to impress the judges more, he'll go between his legs and reverse dunk with Dunleavy's head....then he'll jump way way way above the rim, like into outerspace and crap out Donald Sterling's head for a nothing but net shot!!!...lol, j/k. I need a break.

Like a lot of you guys I didn't know too much about Al Thornton since we all assumed that he was going much earlier, but I did some research and posted the info on the main page. He sounds like an exciting player! Don't worry guys we can address our other needs via trades & free agency.

Before I go on break lets say this the best similarity is like Shawn Marion the Satisfactory Similarity is Corey Maggettee or Al Harrington our worst case is Trevor Ariza so let's hope he appears to play to his NBA potential like Shaun Marion the last thing I look on him it appears that he is NBA ready type player and NBA type of body and he is strong too.

Hey...I just got some more info on Thornton too...I'm not ticked off anymore. Maybe this was a good decision. He plays more like a SF....I was thinking he was more of a PF, but I guess not...I love how he plays though...smooth, confidenct, has a sweet looking jumper, seems very aware, and looks like he's got his head on at all times. In the draft workouts for the Clips didnt he say he would bring character? that he believes that is a very important quality. I can see why Elgin picked him.

I guess we can live with Cassell+Hart and Mobley+Diaz/Ewing when we are stacked with talent at Forward right now. If Maggette leaves, looks like we got a SF with SG skills in Ross and an athletic, scoring SF in Thornton.

You Kobe haters out there, dont come after me for this, lol, but I'm wondering if Kobe would get traded for Maggette and Mobley....i think it could work in our benefit...but I'm just spitballin' here.

Now that I'm alright with the selection...I shall go to the store, get something to drink and return for round 2. Mabye Fazekas will be around, or maybe one of those guards whom I cant even remember. Jared Dudley is off the board now...so that sucks, but Rudy is still available right??

HA! I knew the 76ers wanted Jason Smith...they just traded Daequon Cook to Miami for him. Smith is an excellent player I guess...just played for a small school and didnt get much hype.

Rudy just went to Portland...that guy is real good. Portland is a real contender now!

Now...

What if the clippers....get Aaron Afflalo??

Doh Rudy's gone- oh well. Morris Almond would be an AMAZING pick if the Clippers can somehow pick him in the 2nd round (extremely slim chance, however).

I know exactly who we could draft if he falls that far (kinda doubt it though) - Ramon Sessions!!! I'd love that pick!!!

Derrick Byars would be great- doubt he'll be around by the time we pick though. Ramond Sessions sounds like a nice quick PG. I also like Dominic McGuire ("a poor man's Andrei Kirilienko"), Demetris Nichols (a deadly shooter), Taurean Green, Fazekas, Tucker, Marcus Williams.... Lots of good players left!

Tucker, Fazekas and Marcus Williams...now gone. Some kind of trade i think with Portland selecting Josh McRoberts...I'm trying to find out more.

Mike Dunleavy Sr. and Yaroslav Korolev to the Trailblazers for Nate McMillian and Darius Miles, then our 2nd round pick to the Knicks for Quentin Richardson. The HEADPOUND is returning...hehe!!

Whole bunch of Centers/Power Forwards being taken...Byars, Dowdell, Sessions, Nichols, Green, McGuire are all available. I dont believe the Clips will take a big guy, they'll be looking for a steal at Guard this time.

WOW!!! Chris Richard got drafted above Taurean Green!!! I loved Richard at Florida, although didnt care for the Gators. He plays tough, and was a very very good 6th man. I am really surprised with that pick. They must have liked his workouts.

I'm back. Did Phonix trade Rudy? Fresenko is gone, but if the Clips are going to go for a backup Center, Marc Gasol at 7'+ could fit the bill.

Also, Kyle Vissar 7" out of Wake Forrest, and Aaron Gray 7'2" 275 lbs Center from Pitt.

Yeah I think they traded Rudy to Portland for $3 mil. Lots of PGs left- will it be Taurean Green or Ramon Sessions???

I'm not sure, JamFan...

Jared Jordan...I was hoping for Ramon Sessions...but this guy can play! Led a small school in Marist, but consistently scored, dished the rock and rebounded even.

Pretty good pick I think.

Jared is not athletic and his wingspan is only 6', but heck I don't remember Steve Nash being all that athletic either. He's definitely a pure PG- a smart choice to fill a need I think.

Speaking of MJ...he just traded Brandan Wright for Jason Richardson....What a move!!! Forget the draft, and get an star like that who can help out a young team on the verge of doing something in the weak East.

I thought I heard someone say that Jared led the NCAA two years in a row in assists. Was that right?

they're saying that Richardson doesn't fit in with the Bobcats it won't help the team either way

Correctumundo, JamFan...not that race matters, but I had no idea Jared Jordan was a white guy. Let's say he's the next Steve Nash...that would be something, hey??

A white dude leading the nation in assists. There is hope for me yet. Now I really know why they said there was no resemblence to MJ. There was a pretty good white boy PG in Utah for about two decades. Fed Karl Malone about 10,000 assists. He might turn into a good back up.

There are players (steve nash is probably the most famous) that dont get drafted high, or ever, that turn into special players. I just read a draft-camp analysis of Jordan at draftexpress: http://www.draftexpress.com/viewprofile.php?p=1094 CHECK IT OUT!! The guy doesnt have much for athleticism, but somehow he still gets by quicker defenders and it seems like he KNOWS EXACTLY what he's doing on the court. After reading that article, I'm convinced he's the next Nash or Stockton. Cassell is gonna make him that much more ready this year. In fact this guy is exactly the kinda guy that would soak up everything Cassell does and says. Cassell isnt that quick either, but he knows what he's doing and he does what it takes to win.

i'm gonna see who else gets drafted and check back in to see what you guys all think.
