Return to Knicks would be dandy to Marcus Camby

BY Frank Isola

DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

Thursday, March 26th 2009, 4:00 AM

Marcus Camby says he would welcome a trade back to the Knicks, a team in need of a shot-blocking presence.

"I'd be happy about being back in the area," Camby said. "I want to be where I'm comfortable and I've always been comfortable in New York."

Camby and his former Knicks teammate, Larry Johnson, shared a long embrace before the game. It has been 10 years since Camby and Johnson helped the Knicks reach the NBA Finals. Three years later, Camby was traded to Denver in the Antonio McDyess deal.

"Ever since I left New York there has been talk about me coming back," Camby said. "I had a lot of great memories."

Camby, 35, started Wednesday night but the veteran center was visibly upset that he didn't start the second half.

Johnson attended his second straight game and flashed his famous "L" sign when he was introduced to the crowd.

DANI DECISION: Danilo Gallinari reiterated to MSG Network that he is "leaning" toward having back surgery. Gallinari's army of doctors is consulting on the issue and a decision is expected to come by the end of the week.

"I want to be ready to help the team next season," he said.

WHAT A BRACKET: All the Knicks scouts are back in New York for meetings and will watch the NCAA Tournament together. The Knicks still have their first-round pick this June. Next year's unprotected pick belongs to the Utah Jazz.

HUGHES BACK: Larry Hughes (toe) returned after missing one game. ... When the second of Demetris Nichols' 10-day contracts expires the Knicks are expected to decline the option of signing him for the remainder of the season

Trade Camby to the Knicks in the offseason for their 1st rounder. Trade Kaman to Minny for their 2nd first rounder ( i think they have two this year ). Get the 1st pick.

Take Griffin, then take a PG and a SF with our other 2 picks. Starting 5

Baron, EG, Al, Griffin, Randolph = run & gun

Bench

Taylor, Novak, Jordan, Ricky ( BOOO ), 2 1st rounders + filler ( Paul Davis? )_

It shows in Camby performance he's not happy here. He's just not playing the way he was the first half of the season.

I also think Camby is pretty banged up right now. There's talk that the only reason he's playing is to reach a games played incentive in his contract.

I still think we should look into trading Camby in the offseason. He's not going to be here after next year so we should try to get something in return.

^^^Yeah if we don't make the playoffs next year I could almost guarantee he'd bolt for a playoff team. I wouldn't blame him as his next team could be his last so why not be with one that can get you a ring.

this is about the 3rd team that marcus has announced he wouldn't mind being traded to. he OBVIOUSLY wants out...and will jet as soon as his contract allows.

trade bait, trade bait. while he's still capable and effective, please!

Marcus Camby for David Lee, it's simple as that. Knicks would love that deal because they get Marcus' expiring contract and get rid of David Lee who wants a hefty extension

Besides Nate Robinson, David Lee is just about the only incentive left for Lebron to come to NY (besides the MAX deal of course.) If he was complaining about having no help in Cleveland, he's in for a really big treat in NY.

I saw this one coming MILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEES away. Think he would at least give us until next season but dude is done. Every since he came back from the ear infection he has been playing well enough for incentives and has been chucking shots from mid-range. The hustle guy we all knew and loved has been dead for quite some time and I don't really know if I can be mad at him about it or not.

All that to the side Marcus Camby is a shot blocking big-man that can be the large piece to a team either looking to get over the hill (offseason) or in a push of the postseason (next season dead-line). I'm still not sold of trading Z-Bo or Kaman because if the team takes Griffin we can't trade Z-Bo bad vaule and what C can the Clipps honestly get with the same vaule as Kaman. We trade Camby for depth something similar to what we were offered by the Spurs with a prospect, defender, role player.

Another thing he may want to go to NYC because it would be easier for them to go to the playoffs. But with a trade the Clipps are going to try to get as much vaule back as possible. Clipps have to take care of buisness or we are looking at another decade of humiliation.

At this point can u honestly blame any player or just anybody in this organization for wanting out. I mean best assembled squad on paper ever in a Clipper uniform. A coach in his sixth season, with only one playoff appearance. An owner who blasted anyone in his sight. To top it all off the fear that those stupid ping pong balls will not go our way.....

"The Spurs were reportedly close to trading for Marcus Camby before last week’s trade deadline. Apparently, the Spurs would have sent Bruce Bowen, Fabricio Oberto and George Hill to the Clippers. That’s basically a Hill-for-Camby swap, and I’m surprised that the Clippers didn’t jump on it. Hill is on track to be a starter-quality point guard in the NBA."

Could of made that trade...do we think we can do better? I bet we can but George Hill would of been pretty sweet. He's a nice player

if bruce bowen went to the clippers, he'd retire immediately.

fabricio oberto is a mediocre PF at best thriving in a excellent spurs system.

george hill is a PG in a SG's body. drafted around the same time as mike taylor.

when this first came out, i liked it. now i dont really. we can do better.

I was gonna say...................Is there anyone that WANTS to play for the CLIPPERS?

If you gave every player a choice where they want to go, what percentage would pick the CLIPPERS (not for the city, but for the team)

S&T for David Lee. I'm not sure where he'd fit into the rotation, but he's a double-double guy and he's younger than Camby.

Do players want to play for the Clippers? Sam Cassell did. He re-signed, didn't he?

Mobley and Thomas and Baron Davis all chose to come here.

Money really does talk.

No marquee free agent will ever want to come to this team. The biggest signing we had was baron and look at how the offensive scheme has attributed to his worst career season after coming of his best year ever. There is so much hope riding on eric gordon and draft picks because we as fans know that we it is slim to none that we will sign a big name free agent. Seriously, melo, bron, bosh, d wade going to the clips ? All this talk about 2010 and we are not in anyones radar. Its not LA is crappy market. This is freakin LA this should be the top destination for free agents. But the losing stigma, crazy owner, and control happy coach is what is holding this franchise down. Its pathetic. I can't blame marcus camby for wanting out.

Sounds like a good plan, not sure if Sticky needs to be around on the bench. Something needs to be done to shake up the roster. If Camby wants out and we can get something decent in return i say we honor his requests, especially before his contract expires. I would only trade Kaman for a top 3 pic, he is starting to show potential again.

If Marcus wants to go he's not going to play with heart for a team that BD/MDSr f**ked up. Tim Thomas is available. (a joke) As far as a good FA, early nxt season will tell. Success draws the successful. ZBo's lard ass running? Kaman can run.Remember he played a whole game without a rest. -- A question no one has answered. Who will be our starting center when Kaman's hurt? Is Camby worth a 1st rounder? No. Run and gun is fun but you're done because Half court and D win Championships. Guys, Blake is a Rookie. With no vets, he and we are fish bait in the PO's

We have no PO vets if Marcus leaves so if we make the PO's, without him we're screwed unless we get a vet (I'd kill for Cat off the Bench). Baron doesn't count. If you want to tank this season and probably the next to rebuild, trade Zack too because we have Blake, and be willing to wait for some Euro big man.

Get a good team and Camby will be a big asset and gone soon.

For those thinking that we "have" to trade camby or else we lose him for nothing. Think again. That capspace can lure us a nice big or a reliable sf that we so desperately need. If we were to trade someone though. It has to be zach, then kaman, and followed by Camby.

what basis do you have to say Camby will be:

a) affordable for us

b) wont be more injured

c) will want to resign with us

d) the Clippers will want to resign Camby

e) wont want to retire

I hink those are all very valid questions and everyone would have to work in Clippers favor and also based on the Clipps free agent history i can understand why many would think we wont resign Camby

This is old, how long ago did we play the Knicks. This is before the lottery and players always say stuff like that he wanted to go back to denver too. he's staying no doubt.

It's certainly not LA because many top players dream of someday playing for the Lakers. That said, I don't think the Clippers stigma is permanent. I mean, look at the Arizona Cardinals and what they accomplished last year not only on the field but with their popularity. I think if the Clippers can make a run one of these years, they will be the underdog story that people will cheer for. Until then, they will still be the team that's providing basketball's version of America's team, the Lakers, with 2 extra home games on their schedule.

i actually really like that, plus they would do it cause they get yet another expiring contract. they got wilcox, hughes, harrington, qrich, and camby. thats like 40- 50 mil!!! 10 mil (appr.) each player.

thats frickin retarded (the contracts, not your idea)... NY better pray that they get somethin real good out of the FA in '10 lol...

unless the 2 stars they sign make their other players better, theres no way 2 allstars win a championship by themselves

but i do like your idea. i'd like to see this team go a little younger, but keep core tallent, even though i love camby's D

in a perfect world, the clips could trade zbo or kaman instead of camby, who has only one more year on his contract and is the best of the three from a pure center standpoint. unfortunately, they will never be able to trade zbo or kaman (especially in this economy) unless the other gm is heavily drugged. perhaps the clips are better off just holding onto him for one more year and letting his contract expire. this would mean an extremely bloated front court situation for 09-10, but maybe in the long run it would be better than taking on another contract.
