Our lineup is so shallow, we are only one injury away from being completely disfuctional. If Sam goes down, which he is likely to do, who is going to play PG. If Elton has a season ending injury, who fills in for him? Kaman break his leg? What then? Corey Maggette gets hurt again? We put in a rookie? Who is our SG if Cat breaks his hand? The answer to all of these questions, is nobody, nobody, nobody, nobody and nobody. Oh, we have some players. Players that can..........do what? Fill a spot on the floor. All of these players do not have to get hurt, only one of them. And if two of them get hurt, we are in danger of being the most embarrasing team in the NBA. Whose fault it this? I report, you decide.

I say look at the seasons before, the player that got hurt the most was cassell and magggette. We are deffinantly getting a pg but for sg? sf is ok cause if cat goes down thorton will be there. Elton brand hasnt gotten injuryed for a while but just in case tim thomas is there. Center kaman usaully gets injuryed but no worrys william and paul davis is there. plus davis shined in the summer leauge i think his ready to play he has talent. but i dont no about the sg positon? i dont know about you guys but i would love to see michael redd in a clipper uniform. maggette for redd?

The backups just mentioned can beat the "Sisters of Mercy," but not an NBA team. Williams, Davis, Diaz, Jordan, Thomas, Thorton, is a lineup that scares nobody. It would make our opponents SMILE. Easy pickens.

Although we will be hurting if there are some injuries...We are versatile enough to make it work. You guys all forget about Q-Ross.

If Cassell goes down, then there's the backup point guard we'll be signing, and then there's Jared Jordan. If Maggette goes down there's Tim Thomas and Al Thornton. If Mobley goes down there's Maggette and Q Ross. If Kaman goes down like clippersforlife33 said there's Paul Davis and also Aaron Williams. I'm actually pretty darn comfortable with those alternatives there. If EB goes down we're in trouble though. But I mean you can say the same about a lot of teams in the NBA- what if Tim Duncan goes down, what if Steve Nash goes down, what if Baron Davis goes down, etc etc.

Diaz? I doubt he'll make the team- Ewing was better than him and we let Daniel go.

Diaz can jump out of the building...and that gives him value right away...But then you gotta ask: can he do anything else well??? Diaz shot well in Europe...but other than that, I didnt see any kind of defense, ball handling, court vision or power skills that would warrant a position for him on this team. The best thing for us to do is send him to the NBDL. He could be a jar on the shelf...but right now I dont even see him getting minutes, especially with Dunleavy calling the shots.

Yeah I agree with your assessment of Diaz- I was pretty disappointed after all the hype. Perhaps I was expecting too much, but during the summer league I noticed that he is short for a shooting guard (and didn't shoot well) and didn't have great point guard skills or defense. He also didn't show a strong desire to attack the basket and utilize his hops. Diaz is not signed yet so his future is up in the air with the Clippers. The NBDL will certainly do him some good.

Repped High Quality Post

I don't agree! Have faith and support your team. You are predicting a worst case scenario. .... YOU REPORT, I DECLINE! lol

By the way, that is the fox news slogan...or the fake news slogan.

Sorry but I had to throw that in.

With that logic you can say that about ANY team in the league. It's like...what if LBJ went down for the Cavs? What if Kobe went down for the Lakers (actually they might be better Razz)...what if Nowitski, Terry, and Howard went down for the Mavs, what if pretty much the top 4-5 players of any team went down? Um...yeah they're going to suck. Injuries are part of the game, best they can do is condition themselves and learn how to avoid serious hits. The Clippers weren't too bad on injuries last season compared to most teams. What if Baron Davis wasn't out for half the season for the Warriors? Or what if CP3, Peja, and others for the Hornets weren't out for 10-15+ games? Heck, I'm not a Laker fan but I think the Odom and Walton injuries really set their team back a bit...the Clippers avoid injuries pretty well. Obviously losing SL was a HUGE hit and Cassell at his age will have nagging problems. We're good 2-5, Clips need to get a solid packup PG and sign one of the rookies (JJ would be my pick).

Well said THF. And I agree- JJ is a must-sign at this stage even if we do bring in another point guard.

BTW welcome to the site clipper*joe! I see that you've already made some nice posts!

I've though about this alot. My favorite lineups for the Clips and sustitution patterns would be designed around player durability using a 9-man rotation. This is NOT what Dunleavy did last year, but I think it will be necessary to be a playoff team. With a rotation like this from the beginning, any injury can be absorbed by going to an 8 man rotation. Here goes ...

Starters

Chris Kaman 30 min

Elton Brand 30 min

Corey Maggette 36 min 2/3 position

Cuttino Mobley 30 min

Sam Cassell 24 min

2nd team

Tim Thomas 18 min 4/5 position

Al Thorton 24 min 3/4 position

Quinton Ross 24 min 2/3 position

Brevin Knight / Navarro 24 min

As Needed

Paul Davis

Aaron Williams

Jared Jordan

NBDL / IR

Livvy

Guillermo Diaz

Korelev

The main weakness of this scheme is it takes a committment to lower minutes for Brand and Cassell up front to make playing time for Thorton, Q. Ross, and Knight / Navarro. I believe the reward outweighs this weakness. Last year we would have been doing this stuff with a 2nd team of Thomas, Singleton, Q. Ross & Livvy / Ewing. Not the same. This is a much deeper team - stronger both offensively and defensively. I just don't know if Dunleavy will use the depth.

fyi ..

** My favorite lineup for finishing at half and end of game

Tim Thomas

Elton Brand

Al Thorton

Corey Maggette

Sam Cassell / Navarro

This ought to spread the floor and be tough to guard!!
