As Clipper fans we will defend out team and our city, but I will not defend Dunleavy as a coach. I do not believe in personal attacks, but if you want to talk about Dunleavy's record and his missteps during games, well.........it is what it is. He's a failure. There is no coach in the NBA that has done as bad as him the last couple of years. Why? The other coaches that have done that bad have been fired. Only our owner would keep around a coach that fails over and over again.

Personally I think both Simmons and Dunleavy suck, it seems fitting that they argue with each other.

I'm not going to play anymore with the MD bashing. If we go 5-15 it will be time again but it's wasted energy for now,,he isn't going anywhere before the season starts. BUT,,Simmons has one thing right,,,Mike you gotta get a new wardrobe. Those plaid coats are just awful,,plain fugly.

Repped High Quality Post

Personally, I like Bill Simmons' older articles, before his writing became self-satisfied. He kind of just coasts now on potshots.

Simmons is a Celtics fan, first and foremost. He's a Laker-hater second. He's a Clipper season-ticket holder third, and he is NOT a Clipper fan at all.

Would a real Clipper fan beg Blake Griffin to play overseas? And why? Because he thinks the team as been cursed the last 30 years? By his logic, the Red Sox should have quit 30 years after the Bambino curse because they weren't getting it done either.

Simmons also claimed the Celtics would never win a championship with Rivers as head coach. He even begged them to trade Paul Pierce for Maggette and Shaun Livingston.

Ok listen up. I understand if we bash Dunleavy for being a bad coach at times and even that gets old. Any of you agreeing with Simmons calling him a bad GM though deserves to be bitch slapped. The guy has made a ton of good draft decisions and brought in many good players.

Brand and Maggette re-signed. Drafted Chris Kaman (Not an amazing pick.. but definitely a top 5 center when healthy). Drafted Thornton. Traded for and re-signed Sam Cassell. Drafted Gordon. Brought in Camby for peanuts. Now drafting Blake Griffin. I mean comon let's keep this debate realistic and not let personal opinions on the guy come into play.

Simmons is the biggest as*hole in all of sports writers. Every pro athlete that's black or on an opposing team to his Patriots and Celtics hates his guts. He's personally called out the entire Manning family (Eli, Peyton and more). He's called Rick Pitino and Pete Carroll terrible coaches. He called Kobe selfish for not playing the 4th quarter when he scored 61 1-3 quarters.. yet also called Kobe selfish when he played the entire game and scored 81 on the Raptors. If one columnist in sports deserved the title "Douchebag" he's definitely at the top of the list. His arrogance really pisses people off.

I will defend Dunleavy over Bill Simmons any day......I am way more comical than he is....he really needs to call up Magic Johnson to come dump a load in him because life is obviously to hard for you when you are forced to write huge articles on how bad teams are.......I mean in journalism the easiest article to write is the one that is obvious like a bad team.......If he could write an article picking out the flaws of the best team I would at least give him credit for doing some sort of journalism.

If hes a good judge of talent, he should be a scout... A GM needs to make sure the team suceeds - and that hasnt been happening for a while. Ergo, he is not doing well at the GM position.

If you are a GM and your teams coach sucks balls, a productive (not even great, but sane and logical) GM would fire the coach. It just so happens to be him at the coaches chair as well!

I am not a fan of either people in question. Simmons sounds like he likes bashing the Clips. There is some truth their but at the same time excessive.

Lac that's not exactly accurate. Like you said he would have to fire himself. Like most of us agree on... Dunleavy is far from this teams biggest problem. Is he the best coach ? Hell no. Is he responsible for some bonehead coaching? Yes. Regardless though the players he's brought in have put us in positions to win and the players simply didn't perform... that's not 100 percent coaches fault. I was leaning towards booting him as a Coach.. but honestly I'm kinda happy with keeping him for 1 reason. It tells the players they need to be accountable or they won't win. See lately every damn team is coach fire happy and boots everyone for losing 5 games straight... Some don't even get 1 month to prove themselves. I personally think that's bullshit.. because the coach makes a difference for sure.. but the players decide who wins at the end of the day. Missed free throws, lazy defense, lack of hustle and effort, lack of bench production does not fall on the coach and I'm sorry but you're wrong if you feel that way. Btw being a scout has nothing to do with bringing good players in. He scouts before he drafts or signs players HIMSELF. One thing i will give him is i truly believe he wants to win and makes a ton of effort. He practically runs our entire team and if you guys don't remember he went head to head with Sterling to re-sign players. He started the trend of trying to compete with pushing Sterling to re-sign Brand and Maggette. It's funny how people turn on someone so quickly and forget about all they have done for the franchise. Yes last year was terrible.. but drafting Blake was a big step in the right direction. An example is Phoenix last year. They had HUGE success for about 4 seasons with D'antoni running the club and the team has a bad year last season.. and they fire him, replacing him with Alvin Gentry. Guess what happens? New York improves and Phoenix continues on a downward spiral and misses the playoffs. That's plenty of evidence to suggest it comes down to players more than coaches dude.

These are the comments that make me wonder. If he is a horrible we have no players in position to win. Soooo byyyy your own words he has put together teams that can't win, yet you are criticizing his coaching. Point is how is a guy suppose to win with below average talent? Be sure to think it through before you answer...

And after hearing the story, it's again Clipper bashing. And to those who defend have no sense of pride nor fan hood. The past is that, THE PAST. That's where it should lie. For over 80 years the Red Sox never made a dent in breaking the curse of the Bambino, and when close bonehead plays kept it going. Where is an article on that? The Celtics essentially needed to throw away the future for 1 or 2 championships. My guess is they will not win another one. Where is an article asking how they are going to contend when....

Clipshow you definitely are on target with that. That's what I'm trying to say. People forget the good and are quick to bash recent poor performances. Not only did we improve every year for 4 years.. but we were 1 game from the Western conference finals for THE FIRST TIME EVER.

Donald Sterling was so bad, that the league threatened him that if he didn't sign Elton Brand and Corey Maggette, that they would fine him. He wasn't going to do it at the time. This is from my friend who worked for the clippers. He wouldn't even pay money for trainers or luxury places to stay on the road.

Now, step in Dunlevy. He has given the Clippers new light. He came in and said I am not going to coach this team unless you spend the money, and to Donald Sterlings credit, he has spent the money. He has changed his ways. Sterling has never overpaid a stiff: Olowakandi wanted 100 million, Mo Taylor wanted 70 million. Odom wanted 70 million. And he has been very wise on who not to pay. Jaric, 40 million, Q 40 million. In the Olowakandi draft, every gm with the number 1 pick would have selected him too.

Sterling should not get credit for signing Brand and Maggette too an extension but should get more credit for who he didn't sign. Dunlevy got Cassel here plus a number 1 pick, dumping Marco. He signed Mobley who was a good contract, and then traded it for ZB who in my opinion is one of the best offensive power forwards in the game. He brought in Camby for nothing. He got Baron Davis here, which in my opinion may not end up being a bad thing. Dunlevy has made bad picks but were in a position to role.

After looking more closely at this guy I can see that he is more of a hater of the Clippers then anything. I dont understand why he has season seats other then to talk crap about the team. He's a writer for ESPN, which we all know there are plenty of guys over there that also like to hate on the team. I hope I never see em at a game or I may have words with the him. Everything about him doesnt make sense to me. I wish he would move over to the Lakers. Then maybe he would write more about them instead.

Simmons really sounds like a guy who bases his opinion on what he reads rather than understanding basketball. He read about the Portland loss to the Lakers, and ignores Colin's facts about the game. Anybody can just regurgitate the old Daniel Ewing story; but it's not about Ewing being "cold", it's about the inbound pass being poorly defended. The defensive play was called to deny Raja the ball, and other players missed their assignments. Simmons does not know basketball

Simmons is like Rush Limbaugh or lots of cable and radio gas bags. The more outrageous he can be, the more attention he gets. The more attention he gets, the better his ratings and the more money he makes. He's not someone who needs to be taken seriously.

First of all, I do "think through" with every answer I give. Facts are facts: Good coach? No. Good GM? No. He may put a good team together, but a team consists of the coach and his staff. So by default he is not a good GM. As weve seen, with great players and poor head coach, the results are unfavorable.

Our players DO NOT want to play for him. His style basketball DOES NOT coincide with the team he has. He DOES NOT manage and motivate the team. His style is OUTDATED on and off the court. His players are unenthusiastic to be on the court, they have no respect for him, and are flat out ANNOYED by his presence. This includes most fans, especially those fans who actually watched the games, and care about the team.

I am question the "sense of pride and fan hood" of those who like to site back and watch this guy do as he pleases. Did he get DTS to open his wallet? Maybe, but any other grounded coach wouldve done the same. Scratch that, other grounded but good coaches would've had DTS using and abusing the luxury ax right now and have had winning seasons by now with multiple post season performances. Any other coach would've had the Clipper Nation PROUD of their team right now. I am no defending Bill's Clipper bashing - i could care less what low balled haters say. I am defending his Dunleavy bashing.

And to put of the past as past... We have to learn from the past and improve. Dunleavy has not done that. Dunleavy has not proven to be a great coach with any of teams hes coached. He has had good teams, and he has failed. And if you think weve "improved the first four years"... this isnt high school. Many people, including myself, paid THOUSANDS of dollars to follow the team - and in this business you cant be content with "improving" by winning a few more games every year. You need to DRASTICALLY improve. Lakers missed the playoffs in 05-06 and struggled 04-05... lets see how they've improved since... oh NBA Finals next two seasons winning it all this season.

The problem is Clipper fans are OK with being mediocre. The owner is OK with being mediocre. That is why we are always a less than mediocre team season in and season out. That is why we are considered A JOKE. And that is why they are haters like Simmons who talks smack. So before anyone goes on and acts all hopeful wishing for a Disneyland ending (a little "happily ever after") WAKE UP, GET REAL. The teams that spend the most money, that have the biggest guns, and have attitude are the teams that demand respect, that have front cover photos, that get press, that are favored by many, and have ball licking writers... oh and did I mention they WIN?

The naivety of the Clipper nation is what holds this organization back - then they come and defend the teams loosing ways and condemn others of their fanhood and lack of pride and love of the team? Im sorry I WANT TO WIN. I WANT MY TEAM TO WIN. How can I be proud of a 19 win season? The moment you want that too you will understand my position. The day Clipper Nation recognizes this is the day we just might have a winning organization. Either that or STH will be down to 0, and attendance will be low, and DTS will understand the true meaning of owning a real team.
