Free Agency starts July 1st. I'm not even sure if the Clipps will make a move for anyone, but here's what I'd like to see them do.

A cheap option would be Q. Ross who could help improve our often lacking perimeter D. Adding Q again would still leave the Clipps the option of adding a top free agent in 2010 when Camby, R. Davis, and Skinner all come off the books clearing $11 mil in cap space.

The best move I’d like to see would be the Clipps throwing a full mid-level offer at a Ron Artest. If they somehow land Artest, the next move is to trade Camby since you will have used up half your 2010 cap room with Artest. I don’t mind Camby and our 1st round for Kirk Hinrich. They should keep Mini’s 1st round pick out of the deal as it looks like it could be a top 5 pick in 2011.

It would take a little luck to get this lineup, but I’m certain this roster is a top 4 seed in the west:

Starters:

B. Davis

Gordon

Artest

Griffin

Kaman

Reserves:

Hinrich/Taylor

R. Davis

Thorton/Novak

Randolph/Skinner

Jordan

What are your thoughts on who the Clipps should target on July 1st?

That's a good looking line-up LABraves ... and more realistically achieved that some of the other scenarios on CTB. A GREAT defensive team, even w/o Camby!

Downside, would Artest really take the MLE from us? There'll be at elast a dozen other teams willing to offer the same, many of which would be more interesting to him. And we'd have quite a volatile team, or less subtly said more head-cases than a cuckoo's nest.

If no major trades happen, the best they can do is sign a wing player or b/up PG with the MLE. Best they could hope for would be a Wally Szcerbiak type guy (experienced, several facets, yet partially flawed). Yet a guy like that would round out the team pretty well.

Wally is O.K., but i would rather have Linas Kleiza if we are going to sign a wing player. He might only be worth 3-4 million a year which would be a bargain for us.

Clips need to dump Ricky The Cancer Davis, Brian Skinner and deal Camby in a trade

They would over acehive if they are able to sign one of the following players...

Hinrich

G. Wallace

Birdman

Rondo

maybe Turkoglu

can't sign hinrich, wallace or rondo- would have to be a trade. though aquiring anyone of those players would be significant. I like Hinrich or wallace or turk

this team needs a veteran with WINNING experience. doesnt have to be a superstar, he could ride the bench. someone to help nurture a winning atmosphere and keep players in check.

we have NOTHING like that right now. i miss players like sam.

the most important thing is who the clippers are gonna get for camby.....

major need for an all star 2....

major need of bench players at the 1/2/3 and 5 if deadre doesnt play

the best thing that can happen this offseason

baron/jarret jack/taylor

all star 2/gordon 6th man

griffin/Al/novak

zach/can move griffin in here when subbing Al in/brandon bass

kaman/deandre

dunleavy calls 1 play every 5 plays and we would be 4-5 spot in the west playoffs next year....

aside from the all star 2.....its actually pretty easy

Can't wait to see who the magically appearing all-star 2 guard would be. Last year's all star 2's were Kobe, Wade, Ray Allen, Brandon Roy, Devin Harris and Joe Johnson. These seem unlikely acquisitions. We need to be realistic about what we can acquire with our limited-value trade assets.

Haven't you heard, ether? According to certain posters, Gordon is destined to have a slump this season. Might as well cut our loses and look for a brand new SG.

Hey guys this is my first post here on topbuzz and have been following this site now for well since we found out we had the #1 pick in may. Anyways I'm glad to have finally registered and thought I would throw my two cents in. As far as Z-Bo goes, he will more than likely going to be here by the time season starts and yes he will start over Griffin, the question is for how long? Z-Bo btw did win a title at michigan st. btw for all those who said Z-Bo has never been a winner. The biggest problem I see with our team is that Z-Bo and Al Thorton. Z-Bo will eventually need to go and I think he will around the trade deadline to a playoff team in need of adding depth and we'll make a deal..unless, Z-Bo can accept coming off the bench (which i highly doubt). Then theres Thorton. Don't get me wrong I love thorton and want to keep him on our team for years to come. However, Thorton much like Z-Bo is a selfish player and needs to learn to distribute the ball better. Thorton's #'s were great last year except he only averaged 1.5 assist and his defense is mediocre. I can see thorton being the 6th man of the year coming off our bench and a scoring threat we have off the bench, but until he can raise his assist to around idk 3.5-5.0 assist per game I do not see him as an effective starter and part of our problem. We have plenty of scorers on this team, we need our SF to be a facilitator. Furthermore, as far as trades go the only big contract I see us moving is Kaman because he has value and well we simply do not need him anymore. Last year, DeAndre had a 20 rebound game and also an 8 block game and I for one think that proves that he has developed nicely as a rookie and is ready for 20-25 minutes per game this year. In addition, I've been reading a lot of peoples rants and questioning of baron davis and that we need to get rid of him. Nawww. And here's my justification for that. (1) Last year was baron's first year in LA and growing up here and being friends with Kate Hudson and intrigued by the film industry he got caught up a lil in the LA life and less on his basketball game. (2) Last year was Baron's worst year as far as playing professionally and his teams record that I can recall - that being said I can almost guarantee Baron will be damned to see that happen again and be the laughing stock of LA amongst where he wants to be center of attention and idolized. (3) As we have heard and read, Baron has been working the hardest this offseason on our team (as far as veterans go), therefore he is showing more commitment to preparing himself for next season. and (4) baron now has a freakish athlete that will take pressure off him and also knows can take him to the playoffs in a player like BG. Also, we have seen and heard what kind of work ethic BG has and its very motivating which will rub off on baron IMO. Also, people have been worried about our depth at the 2 and frankly i felt like fred jones did a great job last year and he just started a family and he needs money so u know he will be giving us his everything to earn himself an extended contract or make notice of himself for other teams to look for him in the near future. Therefore, I feel we need to keep the same basic core we had last year and work on building a chemistry for the team except we do need to make one more trade. The only people I see that we could trade/sign to make our team better would be (and this is in chronological order) Hinrich, Artest, Prince, or Sessions. I appreciate you all taking the time for reading my thoughts and the best for our team and look forward to having a promising and better season next year. Also plz let me know what you all think as well and btw EG is not destined to have a slump this year because he is a hard worker and not 21.

Clipsfan... Do me a favor and break up those blocks into paragraphs. Easier to read...

And welcome...

The other thing that no one has talked much about is that pick the Wolves owe us in 2011... With the idiotic moves they've made, it could well be one of the top three... I'd love to offer it back to them for Rubio, if we had assurances that Rubio would come here... We might have to throw in a little something extra, but not much... I think he can be a solid backup to a rejuvinated Baron for a year or two, then take his place.

If Baron doesn't man up, then give Rubio the rock now and live with it... Then, if we can move Zach or Camby for a solid 3, we're in business.

PG: Baron, Rubio, Taylor

SG: Gordon, Taylor, Jones

SF: Thornton, Novak and whoever we get in trade for Camby/Zach

PF: Griffin and Camby or Zach

C: Kaman and Jordan.

I'll go to bat with that lineup next year. And for many years after.

The clippers should go after Anthony Johnson, he would be a good veteran backup guard.

as much as im DOWN for that trade, and as much as i want rubio wearing red white & blue, i doubt he'd want to play for us if he ended up riding the bench. maybe im wrong. i hope im wrong.

Will trade Chris Kamen to the wolves for Jonny Flynn

I don't think Rubio would ride the bench... Given how little depth we have in the back court and that Baron is big enough to move over and play the 2, there would be plenty of minutes for him... If Gordon plays 35 and Baron plays 32, that's nearly 30 minutes right there... Of course, this assumes Rubio makes a quick adjustment and is the real deal... I think he is... While he may not start, he wouldn't be riding the bench...

Add Baron's missed games due to injury or apathy, where he would start and he'd be playing a lot.

Not sure why Rubio put his name in the draft if he doesn't want to come over... He's said he wants the big city and LA is the big city... Unless he only wants to play for the Lakers.

Given how Rubio is screwing with them, there is no way they trade Flynn... Not unless Rubio finally agrees to sign...

Anyone know anything about Marquis Daniels in Indiana? Pretty sure the Pacers just allowed him to become unrestricted. I believe he got into some trouble and might have some attitude problems, but the last I heard of him was that he was a solid role player in Dallas. Not sure he would be worth the MLE but certainly a decent backup for Thornton if we cannot seem to get anyone else signed.

Idk why you guys are down on Gordon, He seems impervious to dumbleavy and I think will flourish again next year. I think those who are calling for a veteran PG are right on the money, I'd love J-Kidd for a year or 2 he has swagger and confidence which our guys need. But I'm sure he'll go for a ring. I think Zac should be the 6th man, no matter what his salary is. Kaman and Camby need to go IMO I'd still trade Kaman for Gerald Wallace if they'd take his ass.

Everyone I know loves Gordon.

Re: Marquis Daniels. He's a solid player and would be an improvement over Jones as a backup 2... I don't thinks he's worth our exception... He might be a good guy to bring in if we had cap room... But we didn't dump Zach when we had the chance.

Charile Villanueva just became an unrestricted FA. Another potential wing.

Not a huge Charlie V. fan... I am a big UCONN fan, so I saw about every college game he ever played... To me he's much more of a 4 than a 3... Not someone we need.

he's a versatile 3-4 man, alot like rashard lewis and zach

rarely plays with his back to the basket, more of a shooter than a post up player, only post's up when he's asked too like a rashard lewis

when redd went down for miluakee they moved RJ to the 2 and Charlie V. played the 3

The Clippers will not, let me repeat, will not trade any player with an expiring contract next summer with one of the best free agent markets ever about to unfold. Kaman will get traded to clear the logjam at center. We will probably use our mid level exemption because it doesn't count against the cap this year or next. Other than that, I like SamMays idea of trading our Minney pick back to get the rights to Rubio. Nice idea.

Yes. He's unrestricted and I think he's a very interesting player. He played really well for the Mavs and he has put solid numbers with the Pacers.

He could come off the bench for Gordon and I think he could even play the SF position some minutes. Definetelly an improvement over Ricky Davis.

Hoopsworld: Anthony Johnson has opted to stay with the Orlando Magic.

Good idea thou cause we could use a quality backup pg thats inexpensive.

SF: Al Thornton

PF:Blake Griffin

C: Zach Randolph

C: Chris Kaman

C: DeAndre Jordan

PG: Mike Taylor

SG: Fred Jones

Dumbleavy was on 710 ESPN yesterday and when asked about free agency, he said they're reaching luxury tax level or something to that effect, basically citing financial reasons as an excuse to not sign a big name FA. I'm guessing they're using their MLE and trading one of their bigs and that's about it. Could be a smokescreen, but I doubt it.

Barring trades, the roster looks something like this:

B. Davis

E. Gordon

A. Thornton

Z. Randolph

C. Kaman

M. Taylor

R. Davis

M. Collins

B. Griffin

M. Camby/D. Jordan

Skinner has a player option (we'll know if he uses it by tonight). Steve Novak is a restricted Free Agent. Fred Jones is also a FA, but I don't know if restricted or not.

Besides bringing back Novak, I'd like to see who else can be had with the MLE. A wing who could spell Gordon and Thornton would be nice. There's a chance Ricky Davis makes a triumphant comeback, but I'm not holding my breath. Someone like Marquis Daniels intrigues me (though his injury history also gives me pause).

A backup PG should also be considered. Mike Taylor is a sparkplug, but not yet enough of a playmaker to hold down the 1 for long stretches.

I don't think the MLE can be stretched enough to handle all this, so here's hoping for wise spending and sharp trades.

I don't think there's any doubt about it... One more move this summer, possibly two... One of our bigs is going. If it's Zach, then maybe Camby could also be traded for value, since Zach will bring only cap relief. Then, there's the possility of the excepting being used... I don't see anything more than that... Eleven of our 14 roster spots will be what we have now.

artest would be great for us but again unless we move somebody we are out of the running because he is not going to take MLE from anyone but cleveland. and the rockets are going to pay him.
