Fan Q & A With Elgin Baylor

Clippers V.P of Bball Operations will answer questions online!

Have a question about the Clippers' performance in Summer League, the 2007 NBA Draft or the plans for the off-season?

OK guys, here's our chance to talk to EB1. If you shoot him a question on the Clips NBA website (link below), post it to this thread so we can spot it if he responds (or doesn't) and what kind of censoring or spin is used. Your question could be answered on Clippers.com.

Submit your questions here: http://www.nba.com/clippers/chat/qa_baylor_070727.html

Clippers.com reserve the right to edit your suggestions, comments or questions for the sake of brevity or clarity. Not all questions will be responded to.

I'm sure you guys can do better than this but here's what I just sent in.

Hi Elgin, I've been a Clip fan since 1998. Enjoyed the playoff run from 2 years ago but I feel the team is moving backwards again. Why can't this organization perform like the consistent winners of the NBA? It seems like the same mistakes (draft picks, coaches, etc.) are made again and again. If this team fails to make a deep playoff run this year, is Donald Sterling prepared for a major front office shake-up?

You know, you basically just told him he can't do his job. draft picks and head coach is what a general manager job entails. I don't believe the fault lies on him. He turned this franchise around even if it was for 1 year. He managed to get good money for his players and coaches. Remember, Sterling was notorious for penny pinching. I think a lot of what's happening now is just mis-fortune. The injuries played a big part of last year. I put some of the blame on Dunleavy. He started Livingston too early last season which bothered Cassell ( I areed with Cassell). Dunleavy had sooo many different line-ups last year I thought he was taking too much medication. There was also the Maggette/ Dunleavy ordeal. The trade rumors. Kaman questioning his ability once he got the big bucks. Livingston's injury... plenty of blame to go around.

I'm not blaming Baylor, man. You're the one that mentions faults and blames here - "plenty of blame to go around"..

I never said "the fault lies on him (Baylor)". The '07 draft picks look decent, but Korolev.. E'rybody here believes it would've been much better if we drafted anyone else.

I just sent a question to one of the decision-makers, that's all.

Here is your qoute ;

"It seems like the same mistakes (draft picks, coaches, etc.) are made again and again".

He makes those decisions. " mistakes" over and over again sounds bad to me. Look I want to apologize for coming off that way. I meant my remark in a sarcastic way is all. I just thought that he might be offended by those words.

I'll give you an example so you can understand were I'm coming from.

If you were a manager of a model agency and in charge of bringing the talent ( beautiful women) and I told you man, this agency is starting to slip and who is bringing in all the ugly women? They can't even get a gig. Would you be offended ??? I would. That is my point.

I shouldn't have questioned your question....sorry man!

Guess you's right, but you gotta ask the question. He probably won't answer it but you never know. I don't know who screens these and if the pulse of the volume of questions is even measured, but maybe, just maybe if enough hard questions, stated diplomatically or in 'Jack Vegas' style are submitted, we might get some feedback from the 'ol geezer' that we can at the very least have some fun with!

1oo% right. After a small break from my computer I started to realize that Elgin Baylor is a free target. Any fan has the right to pose a question anyway they want. If I had agreed with your opinion I might have done the same . Since we are the one's that buy the tickets , merchandise and support the team, we have the right to question. It was my bad.

I think that question is as little harsh SmyLee, but like clipperjoe said- you have the right to ask it as a Clipper fan! I must say that Elgin has made some great moves, however. Trading for EB, Cassell, Maggette (remember we got him from Orlando), and Kaman has been a pretty good draft pick. Thornton and Jordan look like they're going to be very good rookies. Also don't forget we picked Odom and Q Rich as well even though they are gone.

I just submitted this.

"Elgin, Great draft this year! I started following the Clips when Shaun Livingston was drafted. At the time I really didn't understand why he went so high. This summer has really been an education in how difficult it is to land a proven NBA quality PG. I hope Jared Jordan develops into a star.

Question: I know you also pursue players overseas. How much international traveling do you do? When? Spring? Summer? Do you go watch games during the season or are you allowed to attend team workouts? I'm courious how much you do personnally vs. relying on others.

Thanks for your response!"

Great question! started with a compliment (you can catch more bees with honey than with vinegar). Then , you laid out a good and valid hard question. I hope he responds.
