Eric,
Can Boozer and Griffin play together?
The trade exception along with Ricky Davis gets pretty damn close money wise. This saves Utah a ton in luxury tax and lets them sign Milsap. This gives us another good PF in the final year of his contract. This gets us another nice piece without killing our 2010 cap number. |

BOOZER!!!!!!!!!!
This makes way to much sense for both teams. It helps them, it helps us, and it doesn't hurt 2010. |

I'm guessing it's Baron's reaction to the Randolph trade in the first place. |

I think the exception should go towards a backup PG.
I'm thinking Beno Udrih, Earl Watson, Janarro Pargo off the top of my head. |

| I dont know how it is possible Memphis would take Zach's contract, unless Q was just a pain in the butt over there. I think the team is worse with Q than Zach though, Q washed up years ago. I wont believe Memphis would take Zach's 33 million dollar contract for an expiring $9 mil contract until it is official. |

definitely gives us options. Although i think we would be better off not spending all the money unless we can get a great player.
I think Camby might be the next to go. Too bad we couldnt have picked up warrick in the deal. I am definitely a Q-rich fan though so that is sick. Z-boner will probably fit in well there. |

But this is SO MUCH BETTER!
Now we get a servicable swingman off the bench (a fan favorite no less) and an expiring contract to boot.
This is great news.
I said it after the initial report, if we wait something better will come along. And thank the good sky it did. Now we have cap room after next year, and we get another wing spot up shooter. Someone has blessed the Clippers.. |

| The question is do we use the exception or wait for 2010. I say wait for 2010. The only way we use the exception is on a player in the final year of his contract. |

| This is an interesting trade. While we got rid of Zach and his salary, we got back Q Richardson which I'm not overly excited about- below 40% career FG shooting. That's going to be interesting how he and Ricky Davis will get along- I remember they got into it back when Q was a Clipper. |

Here is one more link. The trade may be voided but it had to at least get sent to the league office. Meaning that paperwork has been arranged for the trade.

Well if you are under the cap a certain amount of money I do not think you can use it. I am not sure. I just want to throw as much money as we can at Lebron. |

Hey guys been gone for a bit (needed a break from all the negativity surrounding this team lol) but have always been checking the boards. Man this is pretty huge. Zach just can't catch a break lol. Apparently we're viewed as the worst franchise ever ( http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=4297569 ) yet we still find a way to move the "unmovable". Zach's not all that bad but other than his scoring and rebounding he doesn't bring any of the important aspects that create a winning ball club. It's why Portland dropped him, it's why the Knicks dropped him, and it's why he was our number 1 choice to drop at a time when a big had to be moved. Not sure what Chris Wallace (Memphis GM) was thinking but all the better for us. This deal saves us $24.6 million. Not sure what our odds are for landing a big name in 2010 but we've now shored up some money to enter in the sweepstakes.
All in a days work... |

| I guess we can't combine the trade exception with another player. I went through other teams and looked for other players that could help us in their final years. We could do Rafer Alston, Kyle Korver, or Luke Ridnour. All of these would help us and keep us 2010 friendly while helping the other team save money. |

Well either way we shed Zach and opened the door for Griffin, which is good because he would have had a hard time getting minutes with Zach and Camby in the way. Now with Zach gone Griffin is first to come off the bench and will eventually become full time starter. |

Hey Guys,
This post isnt really about the topic but i just wanted to say i really enjoy reading all your posts. I've been a clipper fan for over 10 years. I live in Sydney, Australia and i have never ever met another clipper fan down here. They dont televise clippers games down here and i cant watch it on the net cause the games are on at midday down here and im at work. Just wanted to say to keep the posts coming cause i read them at work regularly and have finally decided to register. Im really looking forward to the coming season. Not sure if we can make the playoffs, but as our Prime Minister Kevin Rudd would say down here, I hope the clips "Have a fair shake of the sauce bottle". UP THE CLIPS!! |

I'm really hoping Zach doesn't get in trouble before he is a Grizzly.
This was a great trade. We will have about alot of cap space after next season with Q, Camby, Sticky, and Mardy coming off the books. We will probably have to use over half to retain Thorton and Gordon but all in all I'm very happy with this trade. |

Randolph's agent Raymond Brothers said that his client was disappointed to learn of the deal, because he felt he had found an NBA home with the Clippers.
``It's tough getting traded but that's part of this business,'' Brothers said. ``It's just unfortunate because Zach really felt comfortable in L.A. and felt like he'd found a home. He wanted me to thank the Clippers and (owner) Donald Sterling for the opportunity to play with them for a year.''

Yeah Zach's awesome, I wish him the best and I wouldn't mind bringing him back once his contract is up. DUI aside, I think he's pretty much cleaned up his act. |

After I read what teamfiend posted...I feel for him too. And to think of it. He came from Indiana (east coast), then got drafted to Portland (West coast) They didnt want him...so he got traded to NY. They didnt want him so he got traded to LA. Then they couldnt fit him into the team so he goes to Memphis (semi east coast haha) wow....how sad.
Edit* I forgot...I wish him well...he made a big impact on our team...even if he was only on the team for 75% of the year. I hope he owns any team in his path next season. Except us of course! ;D but good luck in everything you do Z-Bo. We will miss saying that. |

| Can anyone tell me something. If we dumped Zbo for Q and shaved 8 mil off of our salary. Does that mean we are now looking at us being under the cap? Does anyone know the numbers for this years cap and space? Thanks for whomever can find the info. |

This is an interesting trade. While we got rid of Zach and his salary, we got back Q Richardson which I'm not overly excited about- below 40% career FG shooting. That's going to be interesting how he and Ricky Davis will get along- I remember they got into it back when Q was a Clipper.
Good points as usual, David.
Richardson was always a terrible mid-range shooter. He could get hot from 3-point land. Or he could get relaly cold. If I remember correctly, he was able to get the bulk of his points posting up on guards (one of Dunleavy's favorite tactics: posting guards) and driving to the hoop. He was more of a scorer than a pure shooter. His defense is mediocre.
I remember reading that he didn't want the Clippers to match the offer sheet from the Suns. The team was pursuing Kobester and maybe Richardson felt slighted.
And now that you mentio it David, I do remember he had some kind of rivalry with Ricky. I'm not sure whether there is still any acrimony between (if ever, really).
Richardson's production has decreased much since his Clipper days. He used to have back problems that apprently persisted after he left. He's lost much of his athleticism. We probably shouldn't expect the old Q back. The deal was primarily to make room for Griffith and for cap space next summer. If Richardson is at all productive next year, it's a bonus. |
