Yeah I would think so. Guess the Lakers maybe felt he was gone and went after Ron pretty quick.
Does this make the Lakers better than last year? I thought Ariza was a pretty perfect fit for them last year but time will tell with this move. |

| I actually like this trade. They are now significantly older. This diminishes the chances for Ariza to sign. Odom is also expendable now. I hope Artest also takes those ill-advised shots he usually does which should give both Kobe & Jackson a fit. I'm luving it. |

| I don't know hasn't Ron matured since joining the Rockets...or not? He's definitely a serviceable player and the Lakers wont lose much by this swap of Ariza and Artest. |

Maybe in paying luxury tax but don't put all your eggs in one basket just yet. Lets wait and see what Odom does. Ariza was perfect in the triangle, not sure how Artest will fair in that system.
Anyway, I give it about a month into the season and you will find out how bad Artest is in shot selection. The Rockets gave you guys a run for your money in spite of Artest. The guy was bricking in the low 30% throughout the series. You'll see... |

| Cartwright used the Triangle Offense when coaching Ron Artest back in Chicago. He already has a little experience with it. |

Yeah still gotta see if Lamar goes back to the team, and lets not forget Fisher was pretty horrible up until the finals. Fisher is getting pretty old and Farmar or Brown as the starting PG dont quite do the job that Fisher has done the past few years.
Artest certainly has matured and sounds excited to play with Kobe and be on a good team but I still dont know how much of an upgrade he is to Ariza if any upgrade at all. I guess time will tell. |

Ron Artest agrees to sign with Lakers.
Great signing for the Lakers! This basically shows they have a 3-4 year window to win championships now. We all know Odom will be back, they have plenty of money for him. Not to mention the fact that Artest and LO are longtime buds going back to their childhood days on the streets of Brooklyn, NY. This keeps them at the top of the pack Clipper Nation, let's accept it and not be bitter about it. After this 3-4 year time frame, our young nucleus will have evolved and we'll be championship contenders. But for now, let the Lakers be, congratulate them on their acquisition, and bring good karma for our team when it's our time. Just a few years, and until then, it should be quite entertaining. |

come on joe, dont get all bitter about it. lets just let them be, let them do their work and go for their championships in the next 3-4 years. By the end of that, our young guys will have developed together, not to mention a couple good signings, and we'll be coming off playoff runs and ready to start competing for our own championships. So while they deserve it, give them their due because when its our time, i'll sure as hell want the same treatment. haha but loosen up about this, it was a good move for them, but good for our future because that's really when our time is, not now. Just wait a few years, and until then it should be entertaining.. |

About the trade I think it will be interesting to see how he can fit in a team like the lakers...Playing basketball Artest is a good player but his character inside the locker will be something to take care about. With Ariza they've won a ring. Let's see if Artest can do the same. |

| I thought this was stupid on the lakers part, correct me if Im wrong but dont Kobe and Artest not get along?,But if any coach can change that man id be Phil Jackson aka The Cornel. Well in any case I guess this means Ariza may be a Cav, I really thought the lakers wouldve kept ariza but eh |

I have nothing wrong with what clipper joe said, and I dont think its about being bitter that the Lakers got Artest. I can congratulate them for winning the finals, but not for signing Artest quite yet. Isnt it actually kind of a risk? I mean, every other team Artest has gone to recently it has been considered a big risk, why isnt it this time? And yeah, he was decent in the playoffs and well behaved in houston, but the triangle is a different system and just as clipper joe said, what if artest doesnt move the ball as well as he should in the triangle? what if he starts taking bad shots? Does that 3 year deal still look good? Im not sure.
I will give the lakers props for one thing though. Not that he will be an equal replacement, but the Lakers saw Ariza might not be coming back and made a move to get a guy at the same position, and at the very least took Artest away from another team who may have needed him. That was a good move on their part. |

| Yeah you're definitely right about that sunnydrew, that like all other times he's signed with someone it has been considered a risk. So this one should be considered one too. With Artest, it will always be. But since the Malice at the Palace, Artest knows he's on a very short leash and has been on his best behavior since. He's just another game changer that the Lakers now have. Ariza was a nice fit in the triangle as a role player, and now they plugged in a possible game changer at that position. When Kobe goes out, or even in, Ron can take the pressure off him at that pick post making things happen. Because Phil will pull it all together, assuming he comes back (I can't imagine him retiring yet), and they will be just as deadly, if not more, than last year. But Kobe and Artest have great respect for each other, they are such hard competitor that in the heat of battle (as they refer to it), their emotions run high. But Artest chose LA because of Kobe's personal recruitment, dont worry, they're good buddies. Just on the court they are great competitors as well. That can't be good for any other team to win championships now. But good for us, this may force some current playoffs teams to more heavily consider rebuilding, then open up some playoff slots for us for the next few years to get our guys' feet wet for when we can really start competing for championships, in my opinion, in 4-5 years. Until then, some exciting games and even a couple of playoff runs would be gold for me. |
