The Bucks are interested in keeping restricted free-agent point guard Ramon Sessions, but are only willing to match an offer up to $3 million per season.

A source with knowledge of Milwaukee's thinking told Alan Hahn of Newsday that the cost-conscious Bucks won't go any higher than $3 million annually.

A sign-and-trade has not been discussed between the Bucks and Knicks, who are very interested in Sessions.

It is believed that the guard's representation is looking for a deal worth the full midlevel exception (five years and $32 million).

and, the knicks are gonna offer less than the mid level, so if we offer the mid level, then i think he will sign with us for sure.

Yeah I really wish we would just offer the mid level to the guy and steal him away from the knicks and bucks. i know a lot of people think that is too much for a guy who might be our backup PG, but the guy is a good long term investment who could eventually end up being our starter. he is a nice young piece to grow with EG and BG too.

This sessions situation is causing headaches though. One day the knicks are "close" to signing him, then a week later we hear they arent, and it just seems to go back and forth.

If true, why would the Bucks let it be known what figure they would match with Sessions? It would be in their best interest to make the Knicks use up as much cap space as possible signing him. Why would they lay it out there, "we'll match up to 3-million. Offer 3.1 and we'll let him go. It makes no sense unless it's a lie."

    Bucks won't match serious offers.

Sessions to NY talks have hit a stalemate.

There's a mysterious third team who's interested but if they were really serious they would reveal themselves.

That only leaves us, and he knows it.

The longer we wait, the less he's willing to take in order to stay in the league and not be in a Bucks jersey.

Did it place question about his worth in your minds? If they're not willing , then why should I put up such big numbers. Good business.

    From Hoopsworld Eric Pincus Chat:

From what I've heard on Sessions - his agent wants the full mid-level exception and currently neither the Clippers nor the Knicks are willing to pay that.

New York offers a better fit as a starter for Ramon but it remains to be seen if the Knicks make a big enough offer to entire Sessions to sign (and for Milwaukee to pass on matching).

    _________________________________

    From Eric Pincus chat:

If they happen to luck into Ramon Sessions, all the better but I'd say the Knicks are the favorite. If not New York, Sessions could end up back in Milwaukee unless LA overpays.

From what I understand, they're not looking to throw full Mid-Level money at a guy who still hasn't proven himself.

Is Sessions really worth what Trevor Ariza and Ron Artest got paid?

We need to offer this guy the MLE for 5 years. The only reason we shouldn't get Sessions is if Dunleavy has that much confidence in Telfair. If we could get Sessions at 3.5 mil a season that would be even better.

We should sign Nate Robinson since the Knicks are going after other pgs and trade Sebastian Telfair.

I could be wrong, but I think Robinson already re-signed with the Knicks.

I couldn't agree more. We have a very young team with Eric Gordon, Al Thornton, and Blake Griffin. It only makes sense to go after a young PG that can peak around the same time these kids will. Sessions has a lot of upside, and even those who still like Baron Davis have to acknowledge that the aquisition of Sessions will only help. Maybe this will light a fire under Baron and remind him that he needs to step up. However, even if Baron does not become that 20 point 10 assist per game player we need then we can at least give control over to Sessions and see what he can do.

I really don't think it's up to us. I think Sessions is just using us as leverage. If I were him I'd get whatever I could from the Knicks and take that, even if it's a little less than what we are offering. He can go to New York and start in a great system or he can come here and play 2nd string in whatever system it is that we run.

Could be true, but from a players perspective it would be hard to pass up playing in L.A. with a team like the Clippers now have. Could you imagine being the PG for the clippers. Your assist numbers could be off the charts with a front court of Griffin, Thornton, and Jordan, and Gordon at the two guard. It would probably help get a lot of pressure off of you and create a lot of scoring opportunities. The other alternative is going to New York, which no one knows what direction that organization is going in. The knicks only incentive for other players is..."hey come play for the Knicks we might get Lebron."

FO is doing the right thing. Don't let a season turn into a bad contract for the team.

Hope so. I would like to say that Baron is going to rebound and that this last year was a fluke, but it never hurts to get some insurance. I've been really happy with all the moves Dunleavy has made since he got control, and I think he and the rest of the FO probably realize that the biggest area of concern is PG. We have a lot of cap money since we got rid of Randolphs money, so the most logical thing to do is to put that money to good use and address our weak spot...PG.

to put things in perspective. The clippers FO offered Tim Thomas MLE as a back up to brand/kaman. Session >Thomas. So why not offer this guy the MLE or somewhere closed to it like 4 yr for 20 mil

I think we grabbed Thomas because he'd just burned us badly in that playoff series with the Suns... What Dunleavy didn't realize is that Thomas is two players, the regular season guy who is lazy and mails it in and the playoff guy, who focuses and can play great from brief periods of time... The knock on him was always that he had the talent to be a perennial all-star and the ambition to sit on the couch.

I'm with you... I think we should find a way to grab Sessions. I'm not too worried about Lebron and the rest. They'll all be like Roy and stay where they are... The big 2010 FA year is going to be a big bust, I think.
