If you assume there will be no big free agent signings or other trades, the Clippers already have 11 players on board if they get contracts done for Blake Griffin and Steve Novak. Fred Jones and Dionte Christmas are likely targets to bring in for chump change money to round out our roster. The current depth chart according to JamFan looks like this.

PG - Baron Davis, Mike Taylor, Mardy Collins

SG - Eric Gordon, Q Richarson, Ricky Davis

SF - Al Thorton, Q Richarson, Steve Novak

PF - Marcus Camby, Blake Griffin (for now)

C - Chris Kaman, DeAndre Jordon

Don't like my depth chart? You know what to do !

    changes id make:

collins = 2nd on PG depth chart
ricky= 2nd on SG depth chart
    camby at the 5

It seems logical to me to start Griffin. Yes, I know that he's a rookie, and susceptible to all of the myriad rookies mistakes, but he's also a coach's son, (his learning curve should be excellent and we KNOW he'll put in the time) the consensus number one draft pick for good reason (between his physical gifts and his hustle there is every expectation that he will vie for ROY if he gets the playing time) and the unofficially acknowledged future of the franchise. (right?) You start that guy. Add to those compelling arguements the fact that both Chris and Marcus have proven shall we say less than durable, and the idea of each night tossing both out there as front liners just makes Blake's presence that much more desirable. If he sits at first for a few games just to get the lay of things... ok. Much more than that just would not make sense.

I don't think Randolph got traded for Griffin to play behind Camby. Even if Griffin doesn't start immediately, he'll be getting 25 minutes a game or more... Within the first two weeks, he'll make that job his own... I don't think Dunleavy can say he's going to give him the job, but it will certainly be there for the taking and he'll have every opportunity to do so.

Remember, Gordon missed the whole preseason, so the month of November was lost to him. He didn't ever have a chance to show what he could do until he was thrown in there in mid December or so... Had he had a whole preseason, Dunleavy might not have brought him along so slowly.
