Clippers owner Donald Sterling wants Allen Iverson, but not many of his top basketball people are thinking along those lines. "It's out of our control," complained one Clipper executive this past week. "This is owner-driven." New York Daily News

But it's pretty clear that Iverson, a free agent one GM called "our league's Barry Bonds," isn't in coach Mike Dunleavy's plans. Dunleavy wants to build arou nd second-year guard Eric Gordon and No. 1 pick Blake Griffin. He has no use for a veteran superstar who can divide a locker room and cause headaches on any given night. That's one of the reasons he shipped Zach Randolph toMemphis earlier this summer for Quentin Richardson. New York Daily News

lol if this is true, i wouldnt renew my season tickets after hearing this ...

i have a strong feeling not only kaman is on the market but baron too...

if this is true, DUNLEAVY is rebuilding again, and seems to have sterlings ear on it..

Worst case scenario:

rebuild while the years melt away from gordon and griffin and eventualy loosing them after the super teams die down in 3-5 years...AKA the old clipper way

We make the 8th-13th spot next season..dun gets an extension and its over for the next 5-6+ years<<< MOST LIKELY TO HAPPEN

Pretending 2010 is the year we get the game changer, lebron, wade, j,johnson, especially in today's nba with super teams emerging

this is a VERY DANGEROUS article...

They're not rebuilding relax. It's a case of Sterling wants a big name to draw in more fans to bring in more money (ticket sales were low last season...19 wins would do that) And Dunleavy doesn't want to bring in a player that he really doesn't have much use for.

That's all thats going on.

To be honest Dunleavy can't really afford to rebuild he knows his leash is pretty short, he probably just realizes that AI won't fit into the team as well as sessions.

Totally agree. I'm pretty sure Dunleavy wants to spend this money on another player who could be more useful for us instead of AI.

We are not on rebuilding mode.

We have money on the table to use. 8 Mil and then our MLE. We should be using it now. Waiting for 2010 is a pipe dream for the Clippers who do not have a history of being able to attract the top FA's. We have never been able to do that and deep down in your heart you all know why. The team needs to be successful over a period of time and then maybe FA's will consider us as a destination. Right now, they all want to go to winning programs. That is just not us. Win now.....baby!

Our national and state economies are in a mess and people can't lay down the money to drive and buy tickets to the games. Another revenue source is TV and Broad Band and Sterling knows that the Clippers would get more coverage, the quickest way, with AI coming in while the Clippers take their usual naps. Not trying to burst the Blake Bubble, but this guy needs some refinement and that won't come till well into the season. The owner does have to pay the bills-damn that real stuff, eh?

Wow, so Dumbleavy wants to make the right basketball decision and DTS is in the way....once again. What a surprise. roll AI needs a title contender, the Lakers or Spurs could handle a personality like him. The Clippers CANNOT and SHOULD NOT, it has IMPLOSION written all over it.

Bring A.I. in off the bench and hope for some wins that is all we can do. If Dunleavy can't handle it quit.

We imploded last season, A.I can't make us any worse than 13 wins.

So if we win, say, 25 games this season with AI, that would be considered a "victory"? BTW we won 19 games last season.

What if midway through the season, AI wants EJ's starting spot? And what if Dun obliges?

hey last time DTS got in the way, it was for the better.. lol we were gonna trade zach for two huge and bad contracts, but instead we got an expiring plus cash for him, and thats cause DTS waited...... but i have to agree with u on this one, DTS is NOT doing the right t hing.

If iverson comes on board. So be it. I am just with the majority on this board that Sessions is such a great fit for this team. One thing that needs to be done this offseason is to find a capable player who can run the point while BD gets a breather. We need to bury Mike Taylor to the far end of the bench. Dude has not been impressive at all during summer league.

The whole point of signing A.I. is he will come off the bench if there is any point that he wants to start ( unless a injury hits EG or Baron) he shouldn't be signed.

If he is willing to come off the bench all season go for it. A.I. was ticked about the mintues he got with the Pistons.

That was really canceling out moves.

We got a expiring for Zach but we traded two expiring (Mobley/Thomas) to get Z-Bo. Though I feel Z-Bo wasn't a a huge mistake but if people consider him that MD was only fixing the mistake he made.

Sessions Update: well we already know this...

The Knicks Holding Steady: The New York Knicks have talked to several free agents and even made a couple of offers to the likes of Jason Kidd and Grant Hill, who opted to stay where they were. The Knicks are said to be the team most interested in Milwaukee restricted free agent Ramon Sessions and word is they could be preparing a five-year offer using their median exception for the flashy playmaker.

Rumors in Las Vegas were that Sessions could be the target of the Clippers, but it seems the offer may come from the Knicks first. Should the Knicks extend the rumored $30 million package, the Milwaukee Bucks would have seven days to match the deal and at roughly $5.8 million this year that would be a sizable savings for the Bucks.

The wrinkle is that Bucks' rookie Brandon Jennings looked every bit the part of a starter, and word is the Bucks told his camp he would likely be starting Day One in Milwaukee likely leaving Sessions on the outside looking in and likely why the Knicks think they can grab Sessions on the proverbial cheap side.

The Knicks have yet to address their own restricted free agents David Lee and Nate Robinson; both players have drawn lukewarm interest, but like most restricted free agents they are caught in the middle of a flawed free agent model. Several teams would gladly pay both players significantly more than is on the table from the Knicks, however the lack of caproom makes a deal impossible and so both players have to wait out the process. Both players have qualifying offers extended to them by the Knicks (Lee at $2,682,049 and Robinson at $2,911,077) and neither seems interested in another year at those dollars. The Knicks have a four-year, $36 million offer on the table for David Lee, but his camp has talked with teams willing to go up to $9 or $10 million in a sign-and-trade, something the Knicks are not interested in facilitating.

Nate Robinson's camp pushed hard for Orlando and Golden State, but neither team seemed overly interested in a deal. Robinson drew some interest from Greek powerhouse Olympiacos, who has shifted their focus to Denver's Linas Kleiza.

The Knicks currently have 11 contracts on their roster for next season, including Cuttino Mobley who will not play. Should the Knicks resolve the David Lee and Nate Robinson situation they would have 13 players for next season.

True, Dumb is making up for his panic move in acquiring Z-Bo in the first place. But regardless, DTS vowed to let Dumb and Olshey make the basketball decisions, yet he just had to step in. A case of the owner micomanaging the GM/Coach who micromanages the players. And ultimately, the fans lose. Damnit.

If we get Iverson, we'll still need to find a backup PG... Iverson has been a 2 his whole caree. Snow was the PG in Phillly when Iverson was there... Blake and Atkins in Denver were the starting points with Iverson playing the 2... Iverson doesn't solve anything for us... With Iverson, we improve only slightly and we'll do that anyway with Blake... Without Iverson and a good pass-first PG, we could improve a whole lot more.

We have money... There are PG's we can get via trade or RFA... Sessions, Felton, Ridnour, Telfair and several others... Dunleavy will get something done if DTS doesn't force his hand with Iverson.

One flaw with Blake. When he play on the left block, he shoots right handed, getting it swatted frequently... It was tough for him though... Without Gordon or any capable perimete players, teams sent two and three guys at him... Our summer league team was abysmal once Gordon stopped playing... Taylor was a reverse revelation.
