Most likely at the very least until All-Star break...then a month or two for rehab, basically out for the entire season...

Well, if we traded him prior as I suggested, we would have got something in return. However if he resigns and we get a lottery pick in 2008, it will work out better than expected. That being said, we still need to trade Sam Cassell an possibly Cuttino Mobley. Well, we can keep Mobley, but definitely Cassell and Maggette. Magette is a free agent and after the Dumbleavy debacle and the drafting of Al Thornton, why would he want to come back. We should get more picks or young talent.

No one! I fetl the same way this year, well actually felt that we'd be in this predicament next year after losing Sam Cassell to free agency or retirement, and Maggette to free agency and ill will received from Dumbleavy.

Torn Achilles, he's out for the year. Even if he makes a speedier than expected recover there is a mental aspect that a player has to overcome. The abililty to trust in the ankle again. That only occurs over a period of time playing. I have torn my ACL and unfortunately just tore it again. The mental aspect is a big part of attaining your previous level.

I was looking into the rehab time for an injury like this. I read it could take 6 to 8 weeks to heal. I don't know how long the rehab will take but I am hoping for the best. In case we don't have EB in the start of the season, Al Thorton will need to pick up the slack. THANK GOD we have Thorton!!!!!!!!!

HE WAS THE BEST BACK UP TO ELTON SINCE CHRIS WILCOX.

WHY CANT WE SIGN PEOPLE WE NEED ?

ALL THE OUTHER TEAMS GET OUR GREAT PLAYERS AND SIGN THEM TO LONG CONTRACTS.

I don't expect them to make much of a move to replace Brand. With the signing of Knight, they have 12 players on contract, and two of their inactive spots will be Brand and Livvy. If they acquire another PF, they'll either have to give up on Korolev or send Jordan or Diaz to Europe.

Trading for a PF would just weaken their bench and give them undesirable contracts.

The basketball gods are cruel. But I'll be at Staples supporting the guys.

Oh me oh my.... This is crazy- how in the world??? I just hope it's just 2 months like the article said! With EB's work ethic I wouldn't be surprised if he return sooner. If the team can hang in there at around .500 they'd be in great shape once he gets back. Thornton and Thomas are going to be huge now. Heck maybe we can get JSing back- I don't think he's signed with anyone yet.

BTW ClipperPains you need some Prozac- you are one depressed fellow and full of crap too. With Brand out you want to trade Cassell and Maggette? Just so that we can get some first round draft pick??? Whatever dude....

Dude, you need chill. He won't be out for the year . I looked it up. It will be 8 to 10 weeks of healing and maybe a few weeks to get back on his feet. You need to verify before you post something like that. You had me scared for a while till I checked it out myself....google. I also read TinaC's post that has all the info. you need. The article states 2 months which is right on the nose. I think you got a little carried away there. lol

Read TinaC's post. The L.A. Times states 2 months.... I also looked up the injury and it stated 8 to 10 weeks of healing after the surgery + a few weeks to get strenth back up. Who should we believe ?????

oh yea...here's my proof.

Read this article from ESPN.com:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2960614

it clearly states:

"Achilles tendon injuries typically sideline NBA players for at least a year, which would theoretically threaten Brand's availability for all of the 2007-08 season.

But ESPN.com's Marc Stein reports that the Clippers have received a preliminary medical indication that Brand will be sidelined only six months. If so, Brand would be in line for a comeback in February"

so who should you believe??

Well if the Clippers wanna make the playoffs, they'll have to find a way to win without him in the lineup. This is a test for us. Will our team come through?? You can bet Corey and Sam will be stepping up.

A ruptured achilles isn't good news at all. Dan Dickau had one that kept him out about 8 or 9 months. Voshon Lenard was out a year because of one. I know Elton Brand is a hard worker and a pretty quick healer but I doubt if he's ready to play by the All-Star break...if that soon. I hope I'm wrong but these injuries are not good for anyone, let alone NBA players.

So where's that leave the Clippers?

Well, they have a pair of old point guards who are injury prone in Cassell and Knight, while they wait to see if Livingston can both come back from injury and prove that he can be an effective NBA player. They'll also likely have a young backup in Jared Jordan.

At the 2 swing positions (shooting guard and small forward), they have a player that clashes with the coach in Maggette and a player that is up there in age in Mobley. Thornton will get plenty of time this season and Korolev (if his signing goes through) may even play some meaningful minutes this year.

At center, Kaman will have a lot to prove and his job just got tougher without Brand being around to help him out. Davis will also get a lot more minutes this season.

That leads us to power forward. Without Brand we are left with Aaron Williams who is up there in age and had a hard time staying healthy last season. There's also Tim Thomas who's more of a shooter than a banger. In fact, Dunleavy played him more at the small forward position last year than the power forward spot. There will likely be a move here. Unfortunately theres not many free agents out there. One name that I've always liked is Corliss Williamson. Although he's more of a backup than a starter, I like his game a lot. He may be looking to sign with a contending team though and the Clippers don't look like one of those with Brand out.

Unless guys step up big time, this is going to be a long, tough season. If the team doesn't get off to a good start, I wouldn't be surprised if some guys are traded. Cassell may be shopped to a team that needs a veteran point guard and Maggette will draw interest too. I don't think ClipperPains is too full of crap...if the Clippers are way out of the playoff race, then they may have to think about trading some assests and getting some draft picks to begin a rebuilding process. Maggette and Brand can opt out after this season and both are going to draw huge interest from other teams. Cassell is gone after the season. So will the Clippers take the chance at losing all of them and getting nothing?? We'll see.

Yup everyone will have to help carry the scoring load & rebounding. All they need to do is hang around .500 by the time he gets back- easier said than done but they could do it. Remember 2 seasons ago when Maggette was gone for so many games and everyone else stepped up? I hope the same could happen again. The question now is which PF should the Clippers sign to help out? I like James Singleton if he's willing to come back!

I like Corliss Williamson too as BB suggested- he should help out with the scoring down low especially.

Yeah, we may need to think about trading Maggette if the season goes sour, let's hope it doesnt come to that. I'd love to have Singleton back. Too bad Mikki Moore wasnt still un-signed.

Yup- Mikki signed a big contract- the full MLE I believe. I'm not sure if he's worth that much.

I'd like Singleton as well. But I doubt the Coach would, so it's unlikely to happen.

If they sign a free agent, they'll still have some difficult roster decisions to make to accomodate him.

Mikki is out in SAC.

Why not use thorton as PF and change (tweek) the complexion of the team? Thorton is more athletic than Brand. We can maybe use more athletic players to run plays with and use Kaman as the muscle when we need to slow it down. ...just a thought.

Thorton was said to be NBA ready, so I guess we'll see how ready he is.

Thornton might be able to play PF in spurts, but he's gonna need to get stronger and bigger probably to handle it full time. It would be ideal for him to just slide into that starting role while Brand is recovering, but I dont think its the right position for him. We're gonna have to settle with Tim Thomas starting there I think. It wouldnt hurt if we can sign Varejao for a year.

Do you think Thomas can handle the inside game? I'm torn between both these guys. At this point, it wouldn't hurt using either.

I love Varejao's game- but we don't have enough $ to make him an offer. With $2 mil of the $5.5 mil MLE gone, we can only offer him $3.5. Hmmmm- maybe Baby Shaq would like to come over now?!! Wink PJ Brown would be a really good choice- I wouldn't mind to see him sign with the Clippers along the same terms that Knight signed for. Same goes for Chris Webber. Corlis Williamson & Melvin Ely should come for even cheaper.

ClipperJoe I think Thomas and Thornton can do the job for the job for the most part. Tim is a pretty big fella actually (6'10", 240), and Al can jump out of the building. But I can see Al getting schooled defensively by a lot of post-up power forwards. Paul Davis will see time there, and Maggette might be able to fill in at the position too against the smaller PFs.

I guess we're left with scrapping to get things done. My gut tells me that Thorton might surprise everyone this season. Can you imagine if he becomes the rising star out of all this mess! Can you imagine if he helps this team stay above water till EB comes back? If good things come out this, How great would it be for EB & Thorton playing the startings forwards thus resulting in the new "dynamic duo". This would surely keep EB from going somewhere else after this season. Although EB hasn't committed to signing with the Clippers, His injury will not help his situation to move out of L.A.. This might be a good thing for us.

I like Thomas but I am not sold on this guy. He is too streaky and doesn't have much of an inside game. The Clippers game is the inside game so their lies my questioning about this guy. I like his size for an outside threat but he is not consistent. ...Prove me wrong Thomas, prove me wrong!

If Melvin Ely's available...that would be a decent pickup.
