Repped High Quality Post

Well, nothing ruined my day more than losing Brand. This changes everything. Dunlevy is going to have to either make a trade or run the ball through Maggette. This is time to let Maggette step up and run the team through him. This guy can average 28 points a game. We need Kaman to play like a big man because now he is definitelay going to get touches. Good thing we picked up Thomas instead of Radmonivich. We will atleast have a powerforward that can spread the floor. Al Thorton can back up Thomas and Maggette. Ross can back up Maggette and Mobley. And Mobley can back up Cassel because he won't last. I'd say when Sam goes down, we have Mobely bring the ball up and run two big guards, and have Ross at the two and Maggette at the 3. We should run a slow grind down offence where we don't run but set screens so Maggette can get open. Or we could swith to an alternative offence where we drop the ball down to Kaman, and have our shooters knocked it down. We don't need a traditional point guard but we do need playmakers on the floor and Cassel won't last and some scrub back up point guard isn't going to help so I suggest this plan. What do you think.

Now Maggette has something to prove, not to everyone, but to himself the kind of player that he is. Showcase his skills and that he is truly a proven player. Set aside any differences because he basically has to carry the load of the team now. Al Thornton has to step up now too.

Starting Line-up:

Kaman

Thomas

Thornton

Maggette

Sam Cassell

or

Kaman

Thomas

Maggette

Mobley

Cassell

or

Kaman

Thornton

Thomas

Maggette

Cassell

Back-up:

Williams

Davis

Mobley

Jordan

Paul Davis's role just got expanded. Tim Thomas will have to be physical inside. We could sign James Singleton back. Chris Kaman's gonna have to be huge for us, cuz they're gonna start doubling him now with Brand out. Jump shooting must improve.

It's gonna be tough without Brand...but if you take away our best player and we still prevail...we'll know this team is for real. I know the negativity and doom and gloom is gonna come roaring down without Brand in the lineup...but it's gonna make this team stronger. If he comes back and we're in the thick of it in the West, Brand might wanna re-sign and give it another go. Who knows. Let's hope for the best with Elton and hopefully the Clips can sign someone else to fill in at PF. Maybe Varejao...but I think he'd be asking too much money for a guy who only brings a few aspects to the table.

I agree. Brand will try to sign with the Clippers again this season because he might feel as if he has an unfulfilled role this season and may want to make a come back and prove that he's still one of the Elite PF in the game. Varejao might want more money...but do the Clippers take that risk? Who else is available? Singleton might be an option to be resigned? (not likely) How about Mark Jackson from the Hornets? or Danny Fortson from the Sonics? or how about Rafael Araujo from Utah??

I'd definitely say no to Danny Fortson and probably no to Mark Jackson...Rafael Araujo may be someone to look at. I think Singleton is our best option...but would he want to come back??

Oh man! What a blow! So, let me see if I have this right. The question becomes... try to pick someone up quickly to salvage things, stalling until Brand's looked for return... or expect to run as is with an eye on eventually cleaning house, bringing in youth and/or draft picks and building around a returning EB, Kaman, Thornton and maybe Shaun for next year ? Are those more or less the options? Whew. Stupid ruptured tendon!

Well... if it's bring someone in off the unrestricted free agent list, here are some options: Ol... uh, experienced guys - Scott Pollard, Dale Davis, CWebb, Kelvin Cato, Corliss Williamson Hmmm... CWebb would cost too much, Corliss could always score, but never defend, the others minutes would be too short

Young Guns - Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Alexander Johnson, Araujo. Pops is way athletic, so is Johnson I doubt Memphis is ready to give up on AJ, but maybe Pops? Araujo is not very mobile, and if on the floor with CK... it'd turn Showtime (pardon the Laker reference) into Slowtime. Hmmm... I don't know, it's not very encouraging. Stupid freaking tendon! Ah well, tempered steel is harder and all that. Start of this season we'll see what the guys are made of.

Good post clippersblue- repped! With Brand out the team certainly can't afford to do any sort of run-n-gun, and must focus on defense more than ever. At this juncture teams know that the Clippers might be desperate for PF so a trade probably isn't the answer. A stop-gap solution of signing a free agent to help with the depth at PF is probably best. And yeah thank goodness that we've got Al Thornton.

And I agree with JLemm- we probably don't need those two guys esp. since we'd have to trade for them.

Agreed. I believe there is a very good chance that Brand will sign. I always thought that letting go of Singleton was a mistake. I thought he was great on defense and great rebounder with what little I saw of him. Dunleavy must be holding his head right now. They should get him back...now. I think Paul Davis can pick up some of the slack but not fill EB shoes. What to do, what to do????

Last season Dunleavy said he thought Singleton's team defense was sub-par. That's why he didn't play him or want to resign him.

Interesting thing about Conroy: he missed every FG and FT attempt last year. I think he was nervous about getting his first NBA point such that he even missed his FTs. I was pulling for him, but he just looked too tight.
