Because of the Elton Brand injury, there are some ironically positive things that came out:

  1. It forces Clippers management to look for frontcourt players- it's obvious that the Clippers were in desperate need of frontcourt help with only Kaman and Brand being the "sure thing". This now forces the Clippers to look for help via a trade or free agency.

  2. It's gonna show us what Kaman is really all about- ever since he got his $52.5 million contract, he has not lived up to his potential. We're gonna see if he deserved such a huge contract.

  3. It gives Maggette the chance to show what Dunleavy deprived the Clippers of- hopefully when he shows everyone what heck of a player he is, the Clippers would give him a contract extension in the middle of the season. The same thing the Clippers did last season with Dunleavy.

Couldn't agree more with the 2 & 3rd point. The first point I have to disagree with. We have Thorton , Davis, Korolev and Thomas that need to prove themselves as well. If not, this will also help Management make improvements for the following season. We have them now...let's see what they can do. Korolev is very young and could be a diamond in the rough. Davis has shown he can play in the Summer league ...let's see what he can do playing with the big boys. Thomas has to do better this year, If not, well I guess we have to trade him even at a loss. The only guy I feel that can do the job is Thorton. I just have a good feeling about this young guy. I agree with your last 2 statements and if I had a list of 3 positive things that came out of E B's injury, I would take your last 2 and add the following;

  1. With EB out for 1/2 the season, Thorton will arise as the "new" threat on the Clippers squad.
  • that is more wishful thinking on my part but I feel it will happen.

excuse me, isn't aaron williams still on the team? i haven't seen him mentioned lately, people talk more about Paul Davis' play in the summer league, williams is a proven nba commodity. keith closs was a summer league phenomenon, what did that mean? don't mean to diss Davis, but i feel that williams can give us some quality minutes in the absence of EB.

keep the faith clipper nation!

First of all, Welcome Clippal! The more view points the better.

The Topic read "the good thing coming out of EB's Injury". This means to me that the "unproven players" will get a chance to "show case" their talent and play minutes, which would not have happened had EB not injured himself. Aaron Williams is a proven nba veteran ( 13 yr vet / 36 yrs old) and solid back up but he is not the future and I do expect him to do his part but Davis(23 yrs old) hasn't been given that chance. I also meant that it would make it easier for the front office to make decisions after this upcoming season for those who had the chance and couldn't produce. Aaron should not be back next season so I really didn't take him into consideration . In any case, welcome aboard....

Hey first of all welcome to Clippers Topbuzz Fugu, Clippal & Arnold! I agree there are silver-linings with the news. Like you guys mentioned other Clippers will have great opportunities to show their game- Aaron Williams, Paul Davis & Al Thoronton. The Clippers might institute more movement into their offense now that they can't just throw the ball into the post to Brand and then just stand-n-watch. More movement is almost always an attribute of an effective offensive. Now hopefully there will be more cutting and extra passing, which could only help once EB gets back too.

Yes, but when I said frontcourt help, I meant back-to-the-basket players. The Clippers do not have that besides Kaman and Brand. I do think they need to find those type of players so that it could help Mobley and others to be able to shoot from the outside. There are some unwanted players out there who could be had rather cheap. Haywood, Araujo and O'Bryant come to mind.

Mobley can post. Cassell can post on smaller guys. I think David is right. Maybe we should have more movement in the offense. The other teams will not expect that. Last year, a lot of teams stopped us with those

double teams against Brand. And with Kaman and Cassell out for a littler while, we couldn't react. Our plays are designed to go inside but I not so sure it's the best idea. I say we should try it, if it doesn't work go back to the same game plan. At this point, it wouldn't hurt.

Yeah definitely. I think coach will add new wrinkles to the offense. Remember late last season he changed up a few things so that Maggette would become a distributor if he got into the lane, and it worked out really well.

As I see the situation I think it's gonna be Kaman's final exam...He's gonna be our main and maybe only weapon inside so he's gonna have to take a lot of shots and show everybody if he's the player who deserves the amount of money that the Clips are paying...Brand means 20-10 so kaman must be the player who has to improve more his numbers. I have always tried to be positive on Kaman, now he's gonna be the main inside star, there are no more excuses...To start the preaseason playing summerleague is a good point but we can't forget which was his physical stat: he was out of shape and sincerely to play in summerleagues without showing effort maybe is better to let him rest or lend him the gym keys...This is his last chance, at least for me. He earns 10million and we must demand him to play as a player who earns this money

I'd be happy if he had ~13.5pts, ~9.5 boards, ~1.5 blocks, ~2 turnovers/game while shooting OVER 50%. But yeah Miquel is right- Kaman better work hard like he promised and come in and play like an animal. If he does I can see him becoming one of the leaders of the team instead of being Cassell's whipping boy.

Miquel I agree wholeheartedly! Of course the Clipper vets have to step up, especially Corey, but no one HAS to produce like Kaman if the Clippers are to be successful until EB returns. The guy is more talented than 10 and 8, and absolutely it's time for him to show it. If he pushes things up to the 18 and 10 range, Corey adds a few ppg, and we get something from Thornton, then things don't look so bleak.

Doesn't CK have something like Attention Deficiency Disorder? If so it could affect his ability to stay focused. There was one game last yr where #50 had 7 assts.

Yeah I think you're right toohip, but to his credit he has made it big time so far. I hope whatever personal issue he had to deal with is behind him now and he can focus on basketball 100%.

Kaman does have ADD but there is medication for that and I assume he takes it. I agree with everyone about Chris proving himself this year. Like I said in another post, "Kaman can be great". The boy has everything a big man could want...speed and agility. I have always felt that he could be a top 5 center. Now , is his moment of truth. Can he be what most of us believe....one of the best??? We'll soon find out.

The best skill Kamen can have is taking care of the ball and passing out of the post as needed. There will be plenty of wing scoring. If he can make good decisions to shoot or pass, then the Clips could spread out most teams. Think of the others on the court ... Cassell, Mobley, Maggette, Thomas, Thorton - perimeter scorers who will spread the floor. Kamen will have many 1-on-1 situations with Brand out.

Man...you know who would be a good acquisition?? Ben Gordon from the Bulls!!! Imagine him in a Clipper Uniform?? Or if not him...get his backup...Thabo Sefolosha! He's pretty good too!!!

Is Ben Gordon an upcoming Free Agent??? He is definitely on the rise to become a top notch player.

I'm painting a scenario: If Maggette leaves, and Q-Ross and Brand stay next year (and somehow we get Gordon)...we could have this kind of lineup:

PG - Ben Gordon, Jared Jordan, Brevin Knight

SG - Cuttino Mobley, Ben Gordon/Quinton Ross

SF - Al Thornton, Quinton Ross

PF - Elton Brand, Tim Thomas

C - Chris Kaman, Paul Davis

Not too bad, and we'd have to add some depth...but I think it's definitely something the Clippers may want to look at (if Maggette wants out). I'm too lazy to check on Ben Gordon's contract status...but if anyone else wants to check and report, that'd be cool.

Ben Gordon is the kind of player the Clippers would want. With him being a 6th man last year, I'm sure he's looking for a place to start and run a team. The Bulls got a good team going, but players tend to wanna change teams early on in their career, so it could happen. who knows. Just thinking about the future without panicking.

I guess Miles is not going to be the player everybody wished he was...He has too many things in his head outside the basketball. Have you seen his last car adquisition?

That's quite the setup by D Miles- I suppose that he had plenty of free time to work on it. I wonder if he'll ever be the same again after that micro-fracture surgery. Those were certainly some exciting times when he, Q-Rick, & LO were with the team! The following is still the best Clipper play I have ever seen- still gives me the goose-bumps when I watch it:
