This is a nice Daily News article on the current Clipper plight. From the article you can gather that Jared Jordan will be part of the team's plans, and that they're expecting Brand to be out for up to 8 months (which would be almost the entire season) and Shaun might miss the entire season. I do have to question the author's assessment that Brand's a "marvelous" passer Smile. No offense to EB but I would say that he's a decent passer. Here's a snippet: "I was very pleased with our program all summer long," Dunleavy said.....

I'm glad the players are reaching out to Dunleavy with a positive outlook. We just have to pray for the best.

Yes, I think both Elton & Shaun will be back in time for the playoffs! Don't know if they will be the same though...

My guess is one of those guys who went to Dunleavy was Corey. I really think he wants to put this team on his back and be a leader along with Cassell and I think he is capable of doing it. I read somewhere (can't remember where but when I find it I will post) that Corey is more dedicated to the gym than ever (preparing for possible opt-out) and has been shooting as many as 500 jumpers per day to try and become a more reliable outside threat. I just hope he doesn't try to do too much and plays within himself, much like he did at the end of last year. I agree with Dunleavy that there is plenty of talent still on this team and I think they will be fine as long as they play smart and play together.

This thing is far from over and we're going to get the job done," Dunleavy said. "Overall, I think we have enough pieces that if we play at a high enough level, we can be there."

Great post G-Man04! I couldn't agree more. I don't think that article has any relevant info. on EB though. I do believe that the 6 to 8 months is what they have been saying all along ( 6 months -anticipated. 8 months -worst case scenario). I am not so sure about Livingston. I haven't heard any ETA on him as of yet. What I have heard is that his progress is coming along great BUT no one knows if he will be able to play again. If anyone know otherwise, please post the article.

Elgin Baylor says in the article that Shaun "might" be out for the season:

"At this point right now, he might miss the season," Baylor said of Livingston. "There's a possibility. It's a serious injury and we can't take it for granted that he's going to be back."

But hopefully he'll be back sooner than later.

I say...let Shaun sit out this season to fully recover. Put him on Injured Reserve so he doesnt take up a roster spot. We got 3 other PGs (I count Diaz as a SG)....so we dont exactly need him to come in and play. He'll probably get a chance to make a comeback next year if they decide to keep him.

JL - sorry to say they can't do that. cry The NBA eliminated the "injuried reserve" list a few years ago. That's why they expanded the roster size to 15. So he will take up a roster spot until his contract expires or he retires for medical reasons.

You sure?? The roster size has been 15 for a while though. not just a few years. I thought it was called "injury exception" or something...maybe i'm wrong. If you wouldnt mind, could you find something on it? I'm not saying I dont believe you...I just would like to know why they'd do that.

JLemm- here's the info I found on it (it's more of a terminology thing, & guys don't have to be "injured" anymore to go inactive):

  1. What roster size limits exist? What is the Inactive List? What is Injured Reserve?

A team must have 12 players on its active roster, although they can drop to 11 for up to two weeks at a time. They must suit up at least eight players for every game. Any remaining players must be on its Inactive List, and are ineligible to play in games. A team must have a minimum of one and a maximum of three players on its Inactive List, although they can drop to zero for up to two weeks at a time, and can temporarily have four with league approval in the event of a hardship. The composition of the Inactive List can change on a game-by-game basis -- no less than 60 minutes prior to tipoff, the team must present to the official scorer a list of the players who will be active for that game. A player can be inactive for as little as one game. While individual teams are only required to carry 13 players (12 active and one inactive), the NBA also guarantees a league-wide average of at least 14 players per team. The league is surcharged if they do not meet this obligation.

Injured Reserve is the previous name for the Inactive List. It was originally intended for players who were injured and unable to play, however teams often used it as a convenient place to stash extra players. While a medical reason was required for players to be put on Injured Reserve, the league did not insist on an independent physician confirming the diagnosis. Thus it was common for a seemingly healthy player to suddenly develop "back spasms" right before rosters were cut to 12 players, and spend the entire season on Injured Reserve as a result. With the current CBA they gave up the ghost, dropped the medical requirement, and changed "injured" to "inactive."

Players assigned to the NBA Developmental League (see question number 66) are automatically placed on their team's Inactive List.

Hmm...so it looks like Shaun will take up a roster spot until he heals. That kinda blows for the Clippers. It'd be a good option for them if it was still available.

And thanks for the info man!
