OK, the silver lining is that this is a wonderful opportunity for Guillermo Diaz, Al Thorton, Paul Davis, Josh Powell, & either Jared Jorden or Yaroslav Karolev. There is a lot of talent & athleticism in the 6 players just mentioned. And the youth are going to have to step up like never before. Wow, it just dawned on me that almost half of our healthy players are 1st and 2nd year men. We need a name for this squad. "It half way through the 3rd quarter and the Clips are down by 12 and they need to make a run. Look! Coach is putting in the WHIZ KIDS!" ......or How about the AIR FORCE. Yeah! I like it. I want to see all 5 of them on the floor together. Out fast breaking high fly act! OK, I'm brain dead, so you guys come up with some great names for our rooks and I will do a poll of the best names and see which one comes out on top. Then, I will call the Clips main office and start a publicity campaign for the new squad, and get the fans behind them.

I say the "grasshoppers". Before anyone questions this name, there is logic behind it. I know it sounds "dumb" but I will explain. "Grasshopper" is the term used in the TV series Kung-fu. The master (Po) called his student (Caine- David Carradine) "Grasshopper". It was his way (term of endearment) of calling him a rookie or "wet behind the ears"... unproven if you will. This name would fit well with these guys. Although they all have potential, they are not battle tested (pardon the pun) but have the qualities to be great fighters (purposeful pun). The name also implies great leaping ability (hopping) which is a primary function for basketball players. Some may take this as in insult but I see it as a compliment because if you ever watched Kung-fu, you know that Caine grew stronger from every lesson he learned. This is what our new guys are facing. This is a time to learn , adapt and produce. What it boils down to is I could not give this group of guys some extraordinary name based on very little to go on. I can't help but think of some of the names people have labeled groups of players such as "Greatest show on turf"-Rams, "Twin Towers"- Hakeem Olajuwon & Ralph Sampson etc. I can't see such a great name put on them....right now. I see a name that

adds character to them but keeps it real at the same time. I see ...."grasshoppers".

I like Grasshoppers and Air Force...I'm gonna lean towards Grasshoppers cuz Air Force is a college team. If these youngsters hop right into the action and do well, I might start calling them the Snortin' Rhinos.

I like the "Whiz Kids". Jared Jordan definitely wouldn't belong in a group called "Air Force" Wink. "Gunnin' Grasshoppers" doesn't sound bad either Smile. But yeah that's a line-up that could provide a boost of energy off the bench... or build a sturdy house with the bricks they'd put up- I hope it's the former Wink.

I like that one. It doesn't imply much and it sounds good to the ear. What about a compromise??? The "Gunnin' high five"????

Or maybe the Bricksters? J/K! Very Happy Seriously though except for Thornton I don't think we can expect too much from these guys because of their lack of experience, though I'm sure they'll bring forth the energy & the effort.

This is the one I thought of: "Riders On The Storm"...from the classic Doors song...but here is why: This is the Clippers, named after the ships that fly through the oceans. And as a team, they are gonna be weathering a tough storm without Brand, Livingston and the dissapointing season behind them. This may not be a team that's gonna "make waves" in the media, but consistent full-effort is gonna win games for this team. We'll probably be quite under the radar for all of the season, but we might be consistent enough to make the playoffs. Maggette, Cassell, Mobley, Thomas and Kaman will guiding the ship...Thornton, Ross, Knight, Powell, Davis, Patterson and Williams will be riding right with our starters, helping any way they can. Thus...Riders On The Storm. What do you guys think??

I like it. We could then call the the Storm or StormRiders for short. But Riders on the Storm is best. I am a big Doors fan anyways.

← Is Quinton Ross better than Bruce Bowen?
