http://www.latimes.com/sports/basketball/nba/clippers/la-sp-simers22au g22,1,756889.column?coll=la-headlines-sports-nba-clippe The above link is to an interesting article on Elton Brand in today's LA Times by TJ Simers. For those of you who don't know tis guy, he does like to "push" athletes and often is quite critical. He clearly respects Brand, as this article and others he has written indicate. This post is about this part of the article, (in part, citing Brand's blog): "One could imagine my disbelief when asked if my (Achilles') injury was due to performance-enhancing drugs by Clipper brass," Brand wrote. "I know we live in that era, but I hold the game of basketball in high....

Find out who said that about Brand and quickly "eliminate" the problem. I know a little spot somewhere in the desert for that person.

DESTROY! haha!

I have one response: Don't trust Simers! He's an irresponsible reporter out to sell his column.

He breaks the cardinal rule of reporting in that he tries to create the story instead of just reporting it.

For instance, Brand says "I'm not mad" but Simers asserts that Brand is. He's ignoring the facts and attrributing his own meaning to Brand's quotes.

Simers is not a credible source or reporter, we should give no weight to his opinions. His column can only be considered an opinion piece, not an informative article. I've already heard many years of his flawed Clippers coverage.

I find this article very amusing. I like the way they portray Kaman. I didn't know Kaman was working out with EB when he was injured? Most of all, I like the fact that Kaman was beating EB during 1 on 1 basketball. I guess if there is any silver lining is that Kaman is IMPROVING his game....keep it up BIGMAN KAMAN!

AS for EB, I find this article a little disturbing. First of all, This is so unlike EB blogging about what was said between his team's front office and himself. He talks about going "Kobe" which is exactly what he did. He didn't need to write about it unless he wanted to use it for a later date ( OPT OUT of CONTRACT). I'm not saying he will do this but this is sooo not Elton that it had me wondering why he would make it public. His integrity was not compromised or questioned until he let it be known. A team has the right to ask questions about their players especially when it's their prized possession. Most employers will drug test employees if they got hurt in a freak accident and the person is suspect. I'm not saying that had merit for a drug test but all the brass was doing was asking a simple question. I don't blame the front office for "asking" questions. Maybe EB should have taken it with a grain of salt.

Don't get me wrong, EB has been my "FAVORITE" player since he signed with the CLIPPERS. Hell I even have EB's image on my profile to show my support while he is rehabbing. I just don't get why he needed to let this out especially since he basically reiterated my feelings when asked about Kobe's rant about his front office and players not too long ago.

I guess I'm just a little disappointed that this might blemish EB's character. I hold this guy in very high regards in what he has done for the community, fans and the game. He is the epitome of what a true basketball player and all players of every sport should be like. I just don't want to categorize him in the same group as Kobe. Kobe is everything a player should shun away from and I hope this doesn't have any repercussions on EB's image. Wow, that sure felt good getting this off my chest. Now, I can go back to supporting my favorite player...EB!!!!!

I read the same article this morning and while it is disappointing to hear that someone within the organization questioned Brand about this, for the moment I will reserve judgement and assume that it was indeed a "misunderstanding" as the team spokesperson mentioned. It is my belief that the Clippers organization has way to much respect for Elton and everything he has done for this team to allow something like this to manifest itself for too long. In fact, I would be very suprised if Baylor, Dunleavy, or even Sterling himself hasn't already attempted to reach out to Elton and diffuse the situation. Neither the Clippers nor EB like to handle internal business publicly and I fully expect that we will not be hearing much of this in the future (I hope). I think it is interesting that EB posted those comments on his blog 2 weeks ago (Aug 10) but we are just now hearing about it. That leads me to believe that it might not be that big of an issue. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.....

Overall, I thought the article depicted a positive and upbeat attitude from EB and I am somewhat excited about what he said regarding his recovery:

"I'll be back this season -- for sure," Brand said. "I've got a cast on now for the next three weeks, then I'll be in a walking boot for four to eight weeks before I begin rehabbing. I'm not putting a deadline on it -- but I'll be back this season."

The Simers article touches on parts of EB's blog but here is a portion of the piece which gives a heartfelt shout-out to Clipper Nation:

"Clipper Nation you have been great optimistic fans, so please don't call it quits now. Support the team as you always have and propel them back to the Play offs and to the top. Thanks for all the well wishes and support. EB"

They've got my support!

Yeah I think it was just some silly thing the Clipper person said, maybe something to the effect of "Did you remember taking anything may have weakened your tendons". It must be from someone who doesn't know Elton and his routine very well- maybe a part-time trainer. I mean from what I've heard EB works out hard every day, even on game days. The Elton we all read about and have seen is definitely not one who would take such supplements. Elton I'm sure was irritated at that question but I'm sure there has been apologies made, and EB being the man that he is has likely put it behind him. I think he mentioned it out in the public on his blog just to set the record straight in case any false rumors got out.

So I say no worries. It's actually good that this injury happened sooner rather than later (would've been great if it didn't happen at all). But yeah I was under the impression that it was a sudden thing but obviously it had been an ongoing problem. EB's got a big heart- he'll forgive that person for the dumb question. He's definitely upbeat and that was great to hear- hopefully he'll put up a new blog entry soon to update us on his progress.

It is hard to find a player who can be a consistent role model day in and day out. In Los Angeles, Elton Brand is that guy, and it is easy to choose to believe him.

ELTON GET WELL SOON!

Lets go Clippers lets go!

Repped High Quality Post

I concur G-Man, and with the rest of you.

Here's the wrap-up: EB has integrity. The fact that he thinks so little of it that he would blab it on his blog, and then follow it with the comment "that's neither here nor there" leads me to believe that it was NO BIG DEAL to him.

So who do you believe: EB (it's no big deal) or Simers (let's make some drama out of this)?

Well put ether- repped! I take EB's words over Simers any day. Simers was just out to stir things up and to make a story out of a non-issue.
