Iverson returned to Memphis after missing almost all of preseason and all of the regular season. They lost last night to a dreadful Sacremento team in overtime... They scored 45 baskets on all of 17 assists. Only the Nets and the Bobcats were worse in assists last night... But both teams had way better assist to basket ratios than Memphis did. They have a bunch of me-first gunners and that team will be a disaster.
This from hoopsworld about that great team guy Iverson.
Allen Iverson made his debut for the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night in Sacramento, and for someone who hasn't played in a month or so, it wasn't too bad of one. Iverson, returning from a partial left hamstring tear, had 11 points in 18 minutes in the Memphis' 127-116 overtime loss.
He said the hamstring felt fine. But it was another part of his body that Iverson wasn't feeling so good.
"I had no problems (with the hamstring)," Iverson said afterward. "I had a problem with my butt from sitting on that bench so long. That's the only thing I got a problem with."
Iverson checked into Monday's game with four-and-a-half minutes remaining in the first quarter and finished up the period. But he didn't return until the third quarter, and that's when he strung some buckets together.
But (Lionel) Hollins seemed incredulous before the game when he was asked if Iverson would be in the starting lineup against the Kings.
"He hasn't even been with the team until just a couple of days ago," Hollins said. "He's going to come off the bench. He hasn't played all preseason, hasn't played the three regular-season games (leading up to Sacramento). He only practiced three days in training camp before he got hurt so there's no way I would trot him out there in a starting role."
Apparently, Hollins might want to think about doing it for Wednesday's game against the Warriors. Iverson made it clear he doesn't fashion himself a sixth man; never has.

OJ, Rudy Gay, Zbo, Iverson, wow I forsee lots of assists and team basketball coming out of the grizzlies this season. I wonder how long Hollins will last or how long it'll be before he tries to get himself fired.
"I had a problem with my butt from sitting on that bench so long. That's the only thing I got a problem with." - Classic Iverson
We're pretty lucky the Grizz picked up Iverson. With Zach Randolph, I notice their sets kind of work, with Gasol cleaning up Randolph's messes on the defensive end, and Randolph being a more willing passer than I've ever seen on the offensive end (but still getting his points).
Thankfully, with Iverson back in the fold, dysfunction reigns once again in Memphis.

Iverson did accomplish one thing....he sold tickets for their games right after he was signed. And looking at all the empty seats at the Staples Arena for Clipper games will give you a heads up on why the Clips were at least thinking about bring Iverson in. We better start winning, so the Clips can start selling tickets. Otherwise Sterling is going to be to broke to sign anybody next summer with or without cap space.
