Well I dont know how many of you have been following the news lately regarding the Drew Gooden "run-in" with some Clippers fans (one in particular).

Here is a link to the story: http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/nba/news/story?id=4619504

So as you can read Chris Wylde complains about being called a F*G." Well first of all, what do we know about Chris Wylde? Maybe that he is one of the most annoying attention starved fans. Here is a link to pic of him in case you dont recognize the name: . http://cache2.asset-cache.net/xc/88442832.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=17A 4AD9FDB9CF19356863F2C054EB26616217C25BB87B9E3B01E70F2B3269972 (Nice pic by the way;)

When i saw the complaint and then saw the complainer labeled as an "actor" i knew it had to be him or his buddy who put together that horrible Clippers rap 3 years ago. This guy is making Clippers fan and NBA fans look foolish as we all know he is a heckler.

Someone saying "F*G", especially if you are not gay is not only very low on an offensive scale but also normal conversation for many people. I am not saying this is right, but i can guarantee he has used the word in jest to his friends in the last month, if not that maybe something else along those lines.

Basically this is the kind of thing about society that kills me. Fans think they have free reign to rip on players and be rude and many times mean, but if the players act as any human and get angry or try to defend themselves, all hell breaks loose. This guy should be blackballed at the games.

I am not a huge Clipper Darryl fan, but i dont think he would do something like this because he knows that heckling incites someone and its what you are expecting.

I disagree with you defending Gooden. Fans are not being paid millions of dollars. Heckling is obviously a huge part of the stadium atmosphere and players know this. A big part of being a professional athlete is upholding your sport to a certain level of respect. All athletes are fully aware that they will be boo'ed, heckled, and name called going into a visitors stadium where they are literally surrounded by 15,000+ fans that are there to support their opposition. Any athlete at the professional level should be well past words affecting their actions. But as we've seen all too well (Ron Artest in the stands comes to mind) this is not the case. Million dollar athletes stooping to the level of an everyday fan who is there to get drunk and be an obnoxious a**hole should be punished and fined. Especially when using a hate word such as "f*g", regardless if its an everyday term for modern America, which i agree it is.

I am a little more in favor of a fan code of conduct. I really don't think fans should be aloud to get to out of hand. To drunk...sloppy....spilling beer on folks.....and using profanity while children are around.....your are GONE! And why are the players getting fined while fans are aloud to say obscene things to the point of being obnoxious. Their behavior isn't acceptable in a restaurant, a church, or even on a public sidewalk. In my place of business they would be escorted to the door. Why is it suddenly acceptable at a game. It seems a fan is aloud to do just about anything and get away with it except get into a fight. Then and only then they are ejected. Being a fan and buying a ticket should not give you unlimited immunity from being a jerk. There are ways to show your support for your team without being disrespectful of the opposing players, the other people seated around you, and all of humanity.

So you think that being paid millions of dollars relegates you to non-human, non emotional status? Time for a wake up call. I am not defending Gooden, as much as criticizing Chris Wylde.

I did not defend Gooden but actually said the fan should not be expecting no reaction. What Gooden did is foolish, obviously, this is not a post defending Gooden, but this is about the fan's reaction. People are people at the end of the day and not machines and emotions happen.

This Chris Wylde is a fool for making into what he did.

I'm in no way sticking up for Chris Wylde or any other douchebag fan, and i do agree with both your guys points. I was just pointing out the fact that when you have a retarded obnoxious fan and a million dollar professional athlete that plays in high emotion atmospheres on a daily basis, then obviously you need to hold the athlete to a higher standard, because in all serious what does anyone really expect from a typical American these days?

Any time a situation like this comes along the athlete is always going to be in the wrong. Gooden should understand this and keep a cool head cause its only going to end up with him being made yet another example by D.Stern.

I guess i am missing the point, because I don't feel he made me look dumb as a fan? How does it affect me as a fan when a D-List comedian sees an opportunity to get on TMZ by playing the victim to a much bigger stars actions. Basketball fans will take this for what it is, a douchebag that drew out a reaction from drew (lol). But to the everyday American and people in homosexual activist/support groups reading this on news sites its going to be taken at face value. A mega star called another human being a "f*g" in a public setting. The only person going to look bad and dumb in this entire situation is Gooden.

end thread

so again you misinterpret another one of my posts that is very straight forward. This guy is what's wrong with society. No accountability for our actions. This is the Balloon Boy type mentality. Do anything to get publicity. Its absolutely pathetic.

Your last sentence is the problem. No one wants accountability for the instigator, and instead look to the public figure for a ll the blame. This is ridiculous and embarassing to me as a fan from a human perspective. Do we seriously think this type of slime is acceptable?

Seriously, its pathetic. I am morally troubled by this kind of garbage and it is embarassing for the clippers because he serves as a representative. I dont see the media interviewing any other fans for their opinions.

I completely agree, the thing i cant stand is what Chris Wylde is doing. Its just an embarassing representation of the clipper fan base. I have many friends out of state and the majority of nba fans i talk to across america think LA fans are all either lame lakers bandwagoners or stupid clippers fans. This is the kind of thing that verifies that mentality.

Found this posted yesterday. It's Chris Wylde's statement of what happened. If he's telling the truth then obviously he did nothing to provoke Goodens reaction and i dont see how Chris Wylde is in the wrong or needs to be accountable at all?

I agree that typically this is a problem with society, but its America and that's the free world that we live in. But at the same time, you have a problem with him trying to get publicity but yet YOU'RE GIVING HIM WHAT HE WANTS? He managed to get you so riled up that you felt the need to give him the light of day and have a discussion about it. Guess he wins.

This. And I especially take exception to very personal attacks leveled at players, like references to their families and things of that nature. That's never called for in my book.

Actually the people in the area including Cuban all said they heard him heckling and Cuban said it wasnt so innocent.

Also I am pretty sure once it hits ESPN than a thread on CTB really doesnt mean much.

Like i said, IF he's telling the truth. There's two sides to every story. And i'm not saying that a post on CTB is really a huge contributor to the media fire of the story. I was just pointing out that you're giving him what you're mad about him trying to get. And i'm not trying to attack you personally or anything like that. I've enjoyed the thought provoking conversation.

I completely understand what you are saying but i imagine he is looking for positive publicity not negative, and as part of expressing my opinion i like to bring forward the reality of the situation, because clearly people would rather see equity and morality neglected (definitely not saying about people on here but people in general).

The most annoying and embarrassing fan to me is the guy who looks like hes leading an orchestra that sits near courtside. He has big mickey mouse gloves and a cape. That dude is annoying to me. But i've learned that what ever floats your boat and makes you happy while not hurting anyone is fine by me. Even if it is rather annoying.

This guy's story makes no sense. He says he and his friend went to the team store after the game, but couldn't find the jersey they wanted so they decided to go around to check each kiosk. Somehow that sent them back into the stadium where they overheard Drew Gooden refer to them as f*ggots while talking to his friends. Maybe they were just talking about a South Park episode or something.

I was happy to be a whistle blower on Drew Gooden and blow the lid off the homophobia rampant in the NBA. Now we have players coming out, Kobe's getting fined for dropping the F word, and way more tolerance and acceptance. Number one cause of death in teens? Suicide. Let's stop the bullying and start the healing

Gooden may not have the fan following as other professional athletes but how often do the 4 major sports help out in this country and around the world and try to set EXAMPLES for the youth of the world? These guys are paid millions of dollars to play a frigging GAME. They are also FULLY aware of the cheers and jeers they will get wherever they go, whether its playing a game, at a gas station or walking their dog in their own neighborhood.

Different words could have been chosen, but the fact is the players need to keep their cool a bit more. Although children don't nec. buy the tickets to the game, they ask their parents, beg them even to go to a game, get them a hat, a ball etc. just to see some of their favorite players. I bet there were at least a few dozen people in the stands that really, really like Drew Gooden and came to see him play, probably more. I wanted to see the Nets play once because Xavier McDaniel was on the team, that was during the twilight years of his career.

Fans do what they want when they want, we pay their salaries, we are the NBA. Without fans going to games, buying merchandise etc. pro athletes would be little more than burger flippers or failed businessmen with their joke business ventures most of them will have in their lives. The majority of pro athletes in the NBA go broke after leaving the NBA, the actual fact is staggering. A fan giving you crap is part of the NBA life.

Go fans, boo Gooden.

That Taco Bell commercial has to be the most annoying commercial ever. I watch videos on NBA.com and that commercial ALWAYS plays before every single video. That song constantly gets stuck in my head now. "Four times of steaaaaaaaaak..." I can't believe that guy is a Clippers fan.

drew gooden. never a big fan.

i remember a while back i sat in the vicinity of the visitor's bench. chris mills was injured and his entourage was sitting next to me (chris is from LA). they kept talking back and forth. there was a heckler making fun of all the warriors players, including mills. a couple dudes from his entourage approached the guy and eventually it turned into a full-fledged fist fight right by the bench around the baseline. CRAZY.

We have a code of conduct for players and a code of conduct for fans. Fans can get tossed. And I am in favor of that. If you have ever sat next to an unruly fan you know what I mean. He ruins the game for everybody else around him that paid big money to come and enjoy a game.

I think I remember actually hearing about that somewhere on the radio around that time. There was another episode back in '02, when the Blazers were playing the Warriors in Oakland, and Mills got into a big fight with either Rasheed Wallace or Bonzi Wells (I forget which), and after the game Mills and couple of his boys went to the Blazers' team bus to continue the fight. This made the news on SportsCenter that night; ironically, it was on the same night that Amar'e posterized Olowokandi in an ESPN game.

good to see you understand how you can taunt others but can't stand if they say something to you.

Drew Gooden obviously was a idiot in the situation but you really werent much better and then to blow it up and victimize yourself? Pretty pathetic.

Always seems like at the games all you and your buddy care about is getting on tv anyways so it doesnt surprise me you used this incident to do the same.

Anyways good luck with your career and let dead dogs lie, thread is old, let it pass.

You probably found it when you googled yourself didnt you?

DTS - 'nuff said. It must be embarrassing to say he is your boss, whether it is on-court or working for him at one of his companies. The way he taunts the Clippers during games is embarrassing to his employees, the fans and the players.

I'd be surprised when contract times comes up for Gorden he stays. During free agency this year we could not pick up any of the better FA because they won't work for him when they have opportunities elsewhere. It's when you are facing unemployment do you come to work for DTS: Gomes, Ike, Foye, Butler, Cook. Do you think they had other offers?

Just saying.
