Hey all

Here's something I put together

http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=14537

It's not a setback - just what it takes to get him back after the injury - assuming he's fully healed when they check within the next 10 days

Eric

Big deal. I think we all expected this. This Clippers organization always under estimates how long players are out.

This season is a building block for next year anyways so there is no need to rush him back. Let him take his time.

This is the max amount of time he could be out. Griffin is a physical beast plus he's young. The MRI in 10 days is going to show that he will be good to go before that road trip starting on the 16th

It sucks, but I'm ok with this. We waited this long, lets make sure he is completely healed.

He needs to come back sooner. Kaman is single handedly ruining games. We can't trade him until Blake is healthy.

I can't honestly see a chance Griffin sitting out that long and it not meaning this will change his game. He shouldn't have been out this long if he doens't come back until Jan than there is something far more wrong with him.

Im really starting to think that Blake will be out long enough that if the team keeps playing like tonight we will definitely not be in an position for a run at the 8th seed when Blake returns.

Blake should not play unless he's 100%

This is the same clipper story that I hear for years. We get excited in the summer time and then things die not in November after one month and we realize that we suck. Why do i even renew season seats. HAHA. This is the last year my friend

Almost to the point where I wish he would just risk it and play through it.

What really gets me upset is the face that the staff doesn't treat him like the number 1 draft pick. Why does he have to wait 10 days to get his MRI. For all we know, Blake may be healed already. CP3 is ahead of schedule. I know Blake's injury is more serious but why can't they check him out more often?

^^^Danny Manning would probably be a more appropriate comparison, assuming Griffin doesn't pan out. Let's hope otherwise.

You know what this means? Dumbleavy's job is safe, as Blake's date being pushed back means Dun won't get to coach a fully HEALTHY team until January. It gives Sterling another excuse to NOT fire him. I swear, it just feels like Dun is literally buying time from Sterling.

But you know Blake would say something if he felt ready to go or knew something was up. He's not going to sit out to keep Dunleavy safe. This is nothing new with the Clippers. They never stick to their estimated time frame. The least they could do is bring guys back earlier. Sadly, they're always pushed back. Nothing you can do, just gotta wait a bit longer. Bad enough Eric can't stay healthy, why bring these guys back if they're just going to go back down.

no matter what everyone can say i am pretty sure our training staff is horrible. Everyone can say what they want but after 10 years of failurefire them. This organization is notorious for holding loers and letting go of winners.

Just look at Elgin Baylor... worst GM in sports history record wise and he stayed for 22 years. What needs to happen, a player dies from a misdiagnosis, before they get fired?

We've hung on to the losers... I don't think we've let go of too many winners. We've never been smart enough to find them.

Saw this on another site... ClipperBlog.

Back on October 31, Kevin Pelton at Basketball Prospectus spoke with Dr. Bill Carroll, author of Carroll Guide to Sports Injuries. With regard to Griffin’s treatment, Carroll wasn’t terribly impressed with the strategy:

"The bad news is it sounds like they intend to treat it conservatively rather than surgically attach wires"conservative treatments usually lead to less successful results and subsequent reinjury if the athlete is to continue to perform at a high level. I have seen the ESPN replay of the injury and it appears to happen when he landed after dunkiing"since it is a stress fracture, that event can actually be no more than the ’straw that broke the camel’s back’ as a stress fracture is the result of repeated microtrauma"a case where subthreshold traumas accumulate and become threshold trauma."

I don't know what that means, but it doesn't sound good.

thats true. But that Mark Jackson, Ron Harper, Danny Manning, Ken Norman, Charles Smith team coached by larry brown was a pretty darn good team. Had that team stayed together the 90's would been alot more fun.

^^^Yep. That group was fun to watch, but it's kind of funny what happened to them... Mark Jackson played another few years, but was in decline. Manning had another ACL tear and became a marginal player the rest of his career. Smith went to New York and had one good year before he broke down and was out of the NBA soon afterward. Norman went to Atlanta on a big contract that he never did anything to earn... Only Harper went on to accomplish anything as a Jordan side kick, then a Shaq and Kobe side kick after his athleticism declined. Even Gary Grant became just a journeyman player off the bench.

Also, Charles Smith and Mark Jackson never played together. They were traded for each other. Doc Rivers was the PG with the Smith team.

Meanwhile, the guys we got for those guy went on to great things... Stanley Roberts quickly ate and drugged himself out of the league. Dominique Wilkins played one season for us and got out to play a little longer on bad legs...

I would have to say that the early 90s was the golden age of the Clippers.

I remember going to the basketball games and the place was just going nuts even though it was not a full house!!! It was a real party!!

http://www.examiner.com/x-28730-Los-Ang ... January-15

"Fans at the Staples Center on Wednesday night got the version of Clippers they were most afraid to see. The sleepy, dazed and confused team that looks like it wants to fight but just can't muster the fuel reared its evil head. The Clippers just couldn't hit any big shots, they couldn't capitalize on their turnover-friendly foes mistakes. They made a new guy look like a star (Chase Budinger), they got out-hustled going after loose balls and Chris Kaman continued to make awkward mistakes. The Houston Rockets were gifted the victory.

Yesterday, most of the reports around the Clipper hood focused on rookie Blake Griffin's return that was pushed back to January, based on comments made by Mike Dunleavy. No actual date was provided, though several reports hinted at an early January return due, perhaps, to this comment by coach: "Now that I'm learning more about [his injury] It's probably looking more like after the first of the year."

Originally, Griffin's injury was supposed to keep the baller down six weeks, which would be this week. But now with a scheduled MRI (isn't this a bone issue?), Dunleavy's postponement and a poor Clippers track-record for getting players up and running on time after injuries, six weeks is now out the window.

Well, I did speak with an NBA insider Wednesday who was able to tell me that Griffin won't be on the court before January 15th. Of course this pushes Griffin's injury to the season's half-way point. The source did request anonymity on Wednesday, and emails to the Clippers' front office were not returned on a January 15th time-table.

Spoiler alert: The Clippers may not be a championship caliber squad yet, but would it not just be a treat for their fans to just have one drama-free off-court presence? Of course it would not be wise to rush or force Blake back from injury, but the Clippers can't afford to play as flat and under-achieving as they were against the Rockets on Wednesday night."

Wow, wtf. i don't think its true, do u?

Mid January..

Blake Griffin is expected to make his Clippers debut in mid-January after recovering from a broken kneecap.

That's about a full month later than the initial target date of mid-December. Owners are surely growing frustrated at holding onto Griffin. Hold him if you can, but it might be time to let him go if your team is falling behind because of the dead roster spot.

Yeah. ClipsNation reported that both EG and Lucas said it's mid-January. Whether that means back playing or just practicing, I don't know.

I know I shouldn't be, but I'm just surprised he keeps getting pushed back. You have other teams around the league who get their guys back on schedule or sometimes ahead of it. Though I don't know off hand, I'm sure there have been players this season who have had their return date pushed back. Still, I don't think it was a full month later from the "professional" time table the team stated.

We were told that he'd be back the 15th of this month. Not back from injury but has hasn't had any contact drills, but back and on the floor ready to play. This is their product and we're the customers. It's ridiculous they can't accurately set a return date; he's had no setbacks.

Old (Dec. 3), but Steve Perrin sums it up better than I could.

np, found something on clipsnation

i just wasn't completely sure

Quote:
Very different

Oden " fracture. Surgery was required to set the pieces back together and lots of time is necessary for the pieces to mend.

Griffin " non-displace stress fracture. Stress fracture means it’s just a crack, not a break in the bone. Non displaced means there was no movement. The bone is right where it needs to be, and with rest the fracture will heal itself.

Griffin’s initial estimate was apparently too aggressive, but these are very different injuries.

Wait, was Blake's injury something that built up over time? Or was it that one play that just caused the whole injury. The first one would definitely make me feel better about it.
