ESPN: In an interview Thursday with ESPN Radio's L.A. tandem of John Ireland and Steve Mason, Dunleavy also suggested that the Clippers will be looking to make a trade for a top player before the Feb. 18 trading deadline as opposed to waiting for free agency. "I think if you're given that opportunity, a bird in the hand is the way to go," Dunleavy told Mason and Ireland.

I think it's Camby's Expiring Contract and Thorton For someone like Iguodala or Caron Butler.

Who do you think we should go for?

Our team would suffer GREATLY without Camby, at least for the present......we would have Craig Smith as the starter, and no offense to Craig, but he is only offensive minded and we already have too many guys trying to individually score.

I'd rather wait for Free Agency....don't count out LeBron, especially now that Dun is out.

Go for Iggy or Caron all the way. I imagine Camby will get bought out and maybe come back or he could always resign in the off season with the Clipps. With Blake Griffin coming back he will demand a lot of minutes and we are desperate for a better SF. Although Iggy isnt as good of a 3pt shooter he is abreat defender and playmaker. Caron has a sweet touch and is also a good defender. Both would really help us.

If Camby is traded and not Bought out I will wish him the best as he was the best clipper these last two seasons in terms of hustle, I don't think theres not one team who doesn't want him

Trading Camby NOW is the smart thing to do. If we get a good player now, it will allows to keep bird rights on C. Smith and R. Butler and then we can re-sign Camby at the midlevel next season, I doubt he gets bought out right after the trade. We don't really need him for the rest of this season cause we aren't gonna make the playoffs. If we don't trade him, we are gonna renounce our rights to all our players to try and go after a star free agent. If we manage to get one, we won't be able to re-sign C. Smith or Camby. We will only be able to sign Ricky Davis, Steve Novak and B. skinner for the minimum. Of course, if we had a shot with Lebron or J. Johnson, then I would be ok with keeping Camby.

That's funny he should say that cuz I was taught by Ice Cube that "a bird in the hand, is worth more than a book."

Why not now? We can't wait and trade him later. This season is over. We're going nowhere... It's about next year and the year after... Of course you trade him if the right opportunity comes along.

We should trade baron and Camby for some much needed help. Camby is gone after this season anyway. He's not gonna resign to play on a rebuilding team. Dump Baron because he's not earning his money, thats for darn sure. Get him outta here.

How about Baron, Thornton and Camby for Iggy, Delembert and Holiday... Philly gets 15-million on their books for next year rather than 26-million... We get a young star (Iggy) a promising player (Holiday) and an overpaid stiff (Delembert)... They get a promising player (Thornton) cap relief (Camby) and an overpaid stiff (Baron)...

Just joking, Joe... Baron's not a complete stiff... Yet. And he'd be united with Brand for their much talked about playoff run.

Camby for Luol Deng, would you do it? Looks like a good trade, and bulls are trying to shed salaries

Interesting, would Camby and a top 10 protected 1st rounder do it?

YOur statement is 100% correct,,we are done this year,,that's why I hope our brilliant GM does not do a major trade now which will bite us in the ass when it comes to getting the top name superstar next year,,,can you say LBJ. For this team, right now, a bird in the hand is just a bird,,nothing else.

This deal was posted yesterday and I love it. We get our SF and a combo guard that we could really use. Tyrus may or may not be back next year. This is a lot like the Philly deal, but Hinrich would mean more to us than Dalembert.

Would more than likely have to throw in a first rounder. Definitely throws us out of the summer FA running, though I'm not really of fan of that gamble to begin with. I'd try for Iggy first, if not, Deng isn't that bad. I just wish he could hit the 3 point shot (doesn't take it that often though he's shooting it fairly well when he does.) He's a solid rebounder which is much needed for thiss team, especially if we're losing Camby.

Could be interesting but we'd be tied up with a lot of salary. At least he's still very young at 24. If we keep tanking though there are a few SF's in the draft that look interesting. Al-Farouq Aminu being the best SF option (thus far) slated to go around 6-8.

Deng is cheaper than Igoudala and Hinrich's deal decreases in value every year. They are two players that could really help us next year.

Can't imagine any trade having a team throw out 6 players to get it done. Has that every happened...ever?

But if we could get them to ok that deal, then could be interesting. But we do lose nearly all our cap for any solid role players over the summer.

Deng and Hinrich would be a good trade imo for Camby and Thornton. We can send off a few other pieces to deal off the deal and also take back a little more salary since we have cap space. Deng has high shooting %'s low TO ratio, good defender and a smaller contract than Iggy plus we could really really use Hinrich. if they could pull off a trade like that it would be great!

Hinrich is a perfect guard for us. He can back up both Baron and Gordon and might actually be better than either of them... Certainly nearly as good as either.

Doing this deal (or any other deal being proposed like the ones for Caron or Iggy) actually gives us more room to sign solid role players this summer. If we make a big trade and get our SF now, it puts us at or beyond the cap going into the summer. In the NBA, this actually gives you more freedom to sign role players.

If you are at or beyond the cap, you have the midlevel exception and biannual exception. You can also go beyond the cap to resign your current guys first...So first we resign Craig, Tyrus, and maybe Bobby Brown and then go shopping with these available resources.

Options are:

  1. Do this trade (I'll throw in Minnesota's pick to make them feel better) and you have the following:

Baron, MIDLEVEL, Bobby

Eric, Hinrich, cheap vet

Deng, Al, Draft

Blake, Tyrus Thomas, Craig

Kaman, DJ, cheap vet

  1. Wait for free agency and renounce all rights to our expirings to get JJ. Also give up the right to use the midlevel or biannual.

Baron, Bassy, vet's minimum

Eric, draft, vet's minimum

Joe Johnson, Al, vet's minimum

Blake, vet's minimum, vet's minimum

Kaman, DJ, vet's minimum

All those vet's minimum guys are the quality level of Skinner, Mardy, Bobby Brown. Only if Lebron is signed in place of JJ does this make any sense at all. Anyone else in that slot and we're probably worse than this year if that's even possible.

as much of a stud camby is and as much as i want him to retire a clipper, he's 35. he gets injured constantly.

that being said, itd be silly to not trade him for a quality player considering we're not remotely close to having a championship caliber team. best case scenario is that we give a 36 year old injury prone big man an overpriced retiree contract, get anywhere from 6-8 in the playoffs next year, get eliminated in the first or second round. and that's the best case scenario - is that how you build a winning team for the future? the dude's gonna be gone soon enough - id trade for young proven talent or draft picks.

itd be a different story if we were consistently making the playoffs with this group, but we havent proven even get out of the lottery.

I'm all for that. I think Rubio would be a great fit for the team especially with Griffin:)

They could actually use Al thornton on the team as he would be a big upgrade over Gomes for them. Also maybe they would be interested in Camby if we take back another mediocre contract.

We could also give them back their protected pick.

thornton and their protected 2012 back.

i dont think we should offer anything big considering rubio hasnt proven himself in the league yet. offer something enticing, yet reasonable considering the situation.

hell, i originally thought the 2012 pick would've been enough considering how young that squad currently is (and all their contracts are pretty tame), maybe throw in a 2nd rounder. but thornton should seal the deal.

I believe Tyrus Thomas could do great things in a Clipper Jersey. A guy like him needs a place where people want him...where he feels the love. Clipper nation would give him the love for sure. HE IS A BEAST!! He looks so huge compared to other players on the court.

you guys are forgetting that tyrus thomas has openly yapped about his lack of playing time each and every year in the NBA. in fact, he's been asking to be traded since last year. if the guy isnt starting and getting the ball, he turns into a stephon marbury-lite.

just the type of chemistry guy this team is sorely lacking.

reminds me of mo taylor.

There is nothing going on in Minny that suggests they're not going to suck for at least three more years... That 2012 pick could be gold. It could be that year's John Wall... We'd better get something great for it and Rubio isn't enough... Though I like Rubio, there are two many doubts in his future. Will he come over in 2 years? Because he has the leverage of being willing to play in Europe, will we have to overpay him to get him here (he's not subject to the rookie contract)? Are we 100% certain he's going to be a great NBA player?

Just too many doubts about that guy to give up something extremely valuable... Now Al and OUR future pick might be more reasonable.

Lol its a good trade ...for us xP, But to be honest I do hope something good comes out of the all star break (i mean after) ....Bosh to me seems the easiest since a huge chunk of his videos include Baron....in short I dont see a big name coming here in terms of the Big FA in the next coming offseason
