The Los Angeles Clippers will not challenge the Philadelphia 76ers in attempting to lure Bobcats coach Larry Brown away from Charlotte, a league source said Tuesday. Clippers owner Donald Sterling entertained the idea of bringing Brown back to L.A., where he coached the Clippers to consecutive playoff appearances in the '90s, after Brown inquired through intermediaries about succeeding fired GM/coach Mike Dunleavy, multiple sources confirmed. There is private speculation among league executives that Brown fanned the Clippers' interest simply to motivate the 76ers. Much has been made of Brown supposedly wanting to return to L.A., but he sold his home in Malibu....

^^^ Probably for the best. We have enough issues without trying going after a guy that already has a head coaching job.

I'm still holding out hope for JVG, however unlikely.

Don't take this the wrong way, but it is interesting that most of our possible coaching targets are African-American. I guess Sterling is really trying to clean up his image after what he has been through in his discrimination lawsuits.

Anyways, if I had to rank my order of preference as of now according to that list, here's what it would look like.

  1. Mark Jackson

  2. Byron Scott (Don't know what happened to him on that list)

  3. Dwayne Casey

  4. Elston Turner

If we get Casey or Turner it will be more losing and either will most likely get fired in a year and a half. JMHO.

thats because u don't those guys. casey has already had success in the nba. he led an okay minnesota team to a 20-20 record. our team has more talent...Also, read this: Deserves a second chance: Dwane Casey Recent history has been kinder to Casey than the Minnesota Timberwolves were in January 2007. They fired Casey when the team was 20-20 in his second season as head coach -- an overachievement when you look at the....

Agreed. They need a proven veteran voice. If they plan on getting an inexperienced guy, might as well keep Hughes around for another season and hope against hope that Baron finally is able to throw off the invisible chains he claims have been holding him back from leading the team the way he wants to lead it and being in shape instead of having to join Jenny Craig like a frumpy housewife and not being a full of talk and declaring every year that things will supposedly be different while the team careens its way to another high draft pick.

Sorry, went on a tangent there.

Seriously, at the very least, Davis needs a strong-willed coach to stand up to him and bring out the best in him as an immensely talented but mercurial player.

Ditto Chris Kaman, who is at once the most talented center in the league but painful to watch when he spaces out. And when neither decides to show up, is there a bigger disappointing duo in the league? Iguodala/Brand, perhaps? I think Davis/Kaman is better than that, at least. Sorry, another tangent.

I agree too. We need someone with experience. Someone who has proven themselves as a capable coach. No matter how qualified these guys are to test out the head coaching position, it all comes down to experience. People like JVG, Avery Johnson, etc. I don't understand why we aren't going after guys like these. In fact, why hasn't Avery Johnson been mentioned anywhere??

I think Mark Jackson should be our first option. Larry Brown a close second. I would put Avery Johnson third.(I also am amazed he isn't in discussion for head coaching positions) We will need a coach that is less nice to players when compared to Hughes and more motivational and temperamental to players when needed.

I just had an AMAZING idea. Haha not really. more wistful thinking, but...

"The Spurs were eliminated in the first round last year at the hands of the Mavericks. A second consecutive early exit would be looked at as nothing other than unacceptable. Coach Popovich said prior to the start of the season he should be fired if he can't win a championship with the team he's been given."

This is from Hoopsworld. Not like it would ever happen, because this Spurs would be out of their minds if they fired Popovich. But if somehow he is released, we snatch Pop! Haha easier said than done though Sad

Popovic would have to fire himself. He's really the Spurs GM. RC Buford is sort of their Neil Olshey. Popovic has already said that when Tim Duncan retires, he's going to stop coaching and go back to the front office (presumably back to being GM again).

i think mark jackson should be our LAST option.....id rather have Dwayne casey or Elston Turner! They should be our 1st and 2nd options....then can come avery johnson but i dont think he wants to coach here. And then Larry Brown has already commented on where he plans on coaching and that is in Charlotte.
