I hope Corey gets to start this year- what do you guys think his chances are? Coach needs to play him more minutes! Ross is good but offensively he's not even close to CM. And Mobley- I'm not too impressed with Cat's outside shooting consistency thus far- CM can also start over him.

Obviously Maggette really wants to start, but as coach says starting positions are earned. So hey if he plays well in training camp and in the exhibitions he has a good chance. He played great in that first game in Russia- just missed a ton of free throws, but in the second game he was pretty bad like the rest of the Clippers. He repeatedly jacked up quick long jumpers that clanged off the rim. I know he works hard but hopefully over the summer he tried to improve his defense and consistency for his jump shot.

I agree! Start Corey and he will get the other team in foul trouble. That's an awesome play when he runs into the lane, gets the pass, and keeps on going to the basket.

I think we should continue starting Q. We need that defensive stopper in our starting lineup and corey gives us a good boost off the bench. We have enough scoring options in the starting 5. Defense wins championships.

Its possible you will seen Corey and Q share the starting role depending on matchups. You could see Q starting at SG if the defensive matchup is there. Corey, when healthy, is capable of playing steller defense. When Cat is struggling, you might even see Q and Corey on the floor together with Cat sitting. Cat is steaky, and it is easy to see when he has disappeared. Corey's game is a lot like Kobe's in one sense, he goes to the line a lot. JamFan

I still think its good to have his scoring abilities coming off the bench. I would start corey if livingston were the starting point guard then bring cassel and q off the bench together. One way or the other we need to have scoring coming in off the bench to give us that boost. Corey did a great job with that last year and if he could accept that role i think the team would benefit greatly.

Q is good at D but because he's not consistent offensively teams can slack off of him. I saw that a lot last year and he ended up having to the take shots at the end of the shot clock. They can't do that with CM- he would drive in for layups or get fouled!

Or drive and turn it over... carelessly.... as usual.... i still say go with defense. We have 4 other offensive weapons out there. I like seeing corey coming off the bench.

Or hit the game winner as we have seen in the past. You can settle for jumpers or go for the and-1, and CM gives you the best chance at the latter.

Hit the game winner... yeah he has a couple of times. I just know that i dont want the ball in corey's hands at the final shot because more times than not, he will drive to the basket looking to get fouled and have a careless turn over. He has a lot of those. Every home game when corey has the ball when the games on the line i'm out there screaming at the top of my lungs for him to pass.

Well I decided to do a little research, and it seems that it's best that Maggette starts:

See: http://www.82games.com/0506/0506LAC.HTM

Look at Maggette's rating- at +5.2 it's the 3rd best on the team, only 0.1 below Cassell. Ross has a rating of -0.42.

And see here: http://www.82games.com/0506/0506LAC1.HTM

If Maggette plays the Clippers were 19-10 last season, the best % of any other Clipper.

And according to here: http://www.82games.com/0506/0506LAC2.HTM

The line-up of Cassell-Mobley-Maggette-Brand-Kaman has by far the best winning %- a staggering 85%, whereas Cassell-Ross-Mobley-Brand-Kaman has a solid, but much lower winning % of 62%.

I'm not knocking Ross but these #'s don't lie- frankly they surprised me a bit. It seems that the team performs the best last year with the Cassell-Mobley-Maggette-Brand-Kaman line up. Obviously lots of firepower there, but hey if it's what gets the job done- that group appears to have good chemistry.

Maggette seems to be a better player starting than coming off the bench. And now Cat Mobley has had a meeting with Coach Dunleavy offering to come off the bench. What a guy! Cat is good, but streaky. And we need a shooter or two coming in off the bench so scoring does not drop when we go to the bench. If Maggette, Q, and Livingston starts, then Cat, Tim Thomas, James Singleton, and Sam Cassell will come in and keep it going. That lineup could be a starting lineup. How nice it is to have depth in your lineup. It also insulates you against injuries to key players.

That sounds like it will work great. As long as we have a scorer coming off the bench. If both Livingston and Q start that is a shut down backcourt. Where did you see that Cat offered to come off the bench?

Well... i just got my season tickets yesterday, and Corey is nowhere prominent on the packaging as in past years.... not on the box... not on the cover of the ticket booklet... not on the day planner cover.... nowhere. he's on some of the tickets, but that's it. i could be reading too much into it, but i don't think that's a good sign. it's too bad... the Clippers should recognize what an asset he is to the team.

It's in the LA Times- I just posted in on the front page. That's really nice of Cat.

Hmmm- that is very interesting. I wonder if that means the Clippers are not expecting Corey to be around, and I wonder who gave the directive to exclude him like that.... But yeah if they're going to keep him around they should have him more prominently displayed because heck for two years he was their leading scorer even with Brand on the team.

Not even injuries can stop this team. The depth is amazing, the talent is there, the discipline is there, the experience is just about there, and most importantly the hunger is there. This team is going to win it all. They must believe they can win it. I know the cliche is to focus on the game at hand, but if they can't picture the team winning it all, they'll just fall short. Anyone else have a feeling like this is "The Year" of many years to come??

Yeah this year the bar is raised even higher. Let's just hope no bickering about playing time will occur and that everyone plays team ball. I think that's why Mobley is saying that he'd be fine coming of the bench- he rather do that than to have any controversy hanging like a dark cloud over the season.

Yeah, cause corey has complained about playing time before and im sure he would do it again if he didnt start this year. We cant have distractions like that if we want to win it all.

Yeah........ hard, concrete evidence that CM needs to start for the Clippers to have the best chance winning! Smile

Do you think the numbers are a little skewed because corey started so many fewer games?

Yup I would agree that it's skewed but still it seems meaningful. We'll see what lineup coach goes with for tonight's preseason game.

Yup- not too seriously tough but it would be nice to see them playing soon. Here's a link to Clippers injury status page:

It looks like Rebraca is going to be out for a while.
