NEW YORK -- The New York Knicks and other teams hoarding salary-cap space got some good news Friday when they were told at the league's Board of Governors meeting that the projected 2010-11 salary cap will be $56.1 million.

That figure was $2 million to $3 million more than most teams had been expecting, and for the Knicks it ensures they have enough cap space this summer to sign two maximum-salary free agents.

"That's a lot of money. That's good," said Knicks president Donnie Walsh, who attended the meeting to learn the results of the Knicks' draft position through a tiebreaker.

Because of the worldwide economic downturn, the league had warned teams last July to expect the salary cap to be significantly lower -- perhaps as low as $51 million.

Other teams that will be positively affected by Friday's news include the Nets, Heat, Wizards, Bulls, Clippers and Timberwolves.

My prediction about this summer:

Wade remain with Heat

LBJ remain with Cavs

Johnson remain with Hawks

Bosh goes to CHI

Boozer goes to Heat

Gay goes to NYK

Amar'è goes to NYK

Or future will be more bright after the ping pong, knowing exactly what pick we will own will show us the way to walk this sumer.

thats a pretty good prediction...cuz then NYK gets their two max guys and will do what they have always done and over pay for their players in Gay for like 12 mil and prlly will get amar'e at around 10 mil lol!

but i can see bosh going to CHI or Heat if boozer doesnt go there.

Thanks jcdigital

As you know is just a prediction, but the only thing sure is this ''knowing exactly what pick we will own will show us the way to walk this sumer''

I'm against overpay guys like gay, a good player, but absoloutly not a max player.

We should focus our goal to pick right picks, if good, and keep money for 'Melo, if Lebron doesn't come tu us.

^ very true, even tho we have the cap space now, doesnt mean we have to pin it down for 3-5 years! we can get a couple guys for a long haul and keep the others with team options so if we want we can make a run at another big FA in the next offseason.

Where does that leave us? On the outside looking in as always, I guess.

I think a couple of those destinations are interchangeable. I wouldn't be surprised if Clips get one of those guys either. We'll have to wait and see.

Maybe trade for Iguodala/Deng/Granger?

Sign an injury plagued McGrady or Josh Howard?

The Bobby Simmons era, part deux?

Mike what's-his-name Jr. from the Pacers?

I got a little depressed looking at your list. Almost reached for a beer to self medicate. Damn if thats the best we can do.

I think Granger is a fantastic player. Now if he could only stay healthy.

^^^ If we sign him he will tear his knee as he gets up from the press conference table.
