Good for him, this shows that hard work pays off. take note Bum Drizzle Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby and the Trail Blazers are close to signing a two-year extension, which could be signed as early as today. "Since the day Marcus was traded, the Blazers and Marcus made it clear it was not for an interim engagement,'' said Camby's agent, Rick Kaplan. "It has been our goal to get something done, and hopefully he will stay in Portland long term.'' ESPN.com and 95.5 The Game in Portland were the first to report the deal, although Kaplan said nothing has been finalized.....

Seems like Portland is loving them veterans, eh? Oden heading to bench with that kind of money.

LOL There's nothing wrong with having an old vet on your team if it's the right kind of player. Just ask old-man Cassell.

Probably has more to do with the fact the Blazers just can't rely on Oden being available for any consistent amount of time. If Oden is ever healthy, I'd expect him to start . . . but that seems like a pretty big if at this point.

While I agree, I think it has more to do with how great Camby is playing on the current squad. Giving someone at his age that kind of money usually means they are starting. Working out a deal this early usually means they've seen enough and are comfortable with a decision like that.

Gotta admit, this squad is playing lights out without their 2 lottery picks. Remember, they still have Przybilla on the team for one more season. If they keep both of them, I think someone is being moved or Oden drops to 3rd string. Oden played in 61 games this season and only stared 39. Not sure why, but on the surface, it doesn't bold well for Oden.

Oden has always been a liability due to plaguing injuries, when the picked up Camby from us, he became expendable. He has shown that his legs although young, are very fragile and his days in Portland are now numbered. Is it too early to say bust?

It might still be little too early to say bust. When he played this season, I think he was doing relatively well. If he can stay healthy -- again, a big if -- I think he can be a serviceable big man in this league. But, healthy or not, he's never going to be a superstar. So, considering he was picked over Durant, who already is a superstar, its going to be hard for Oden to avoid the bust label.

Re signing Camby to a big contract... I don't think Camby could have gotten near that on the open market. That's the advantage of playing for Paul Allen... He's over the cap and doesn't care if it makes his team better... The advantage for the Blazers is, they already have their team in place... Allen will pay whatever it costs to keep it together...

We don't have our team figured out yet, or even close... Again, the advantage of building with youth and THEN adding the vets. We seem to be doing it bass ackwards...

Good for Camby. He's a good guy.

Wow that's a lot of $- I thought maybe $7 million would be fair, but good for Marcus. Where does Portland get all this money???

They actually have huge cap space. This is because most of their players are on rookie contracts like Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Bayless and they got Andre Miller for a decent price. I actually learned this from NBA 2K10 lol

That's funny... Darius Miles is the highest paid player on their team... Problem for them is soon Roy and Aldredge's extensions will kick in and if Oden proves worth an extension, they'll be paying huge money out... But Paul Allen can afford it.

Darius Miles comes off the books next season. That's 9 million bucks right there.

Juwan Howard comes off the books, too.

i think oden can seriosuly be one of the best defensive centers in the NBA for years to come, becuase he has natural size, not liek dwight howard who's size in all worked for. and since oden's height and size are all natural, which to me means he can be a much more dominating center then dwight howard on the defensive end. i think they need to get him some bionic knee-caps. =)

Aldridge's salary will double next season @ 10 million plus. Roy signed a 5 year extension that will obviously be more than Aldridge, too. This is where the rubber meets the road as far as salary goes...

That's what camby wanted all along according to Lawler. Lawler said during a game just after the trade that Camby knew what was going to happen and that he and his agent wanted an extension for a long term contract long before the trade happened. According to Lawler, his agent wanted more years and money than the organization wanted to offer. By the way, at this moment, the Blazers are ranked dead last in terms of salary. They are under the cap. Portland Trail Blazers $55,834,419 http://hoopshype.com/salaries.htm

i used to hate on the guy when he was drafted (because he was such a clown), but i absolutely love joakim noah's game. if he keeps up his aggressiveness, he could really be a dave cowens type player. tons of grit, the guy never seems to give up. great rebounder, defensive player.

its not a plea to sign the guy, but i would be more than happy if he ever wanted to sign here.

(oh and i also love that he secretly hates lebron and openly dissed the city of cleveland.)

The only thing I can say is "foolish". There's a right place and a right time to say everything, and Noah picked the worst time to say that stuff. His arrogance will be their downfall.

Now if he said that stuff after that last game, he would've been fine since they're probably going to lose both games in Chicago and get sweeped and not see the city of Cleveland again till next year.

Joakim Noah, Al Horford, and Corey Brewer are all overconfident, cocky players. After that championship for Florida they think they rule the NBA.

^^^ i agree with what you are saying on Noah but i dont think horford or Brewer are anywhere near their level. Brewer especially because until this year the guy could barely get 7 ppg in 20+ minutes!

I was definitely laughing when i read the Noah interview on Hoopshype yesterday. The guy is a total d-bag but some of the stuff he does and says is pretty funny, not most just some.

Co-sign. I don't like anybody from that Florida group, and I dislike Noah most of all. I think he's a clown. There's plenty of guys that can do what he does on the court, but just aren't as loud mouthed about it.

And insulting someone's hometown is just a d&*k move if you ask me. First, it has nothing to do at all with the game on the court. Second, there's a lot of people that don't have any choice with respect to where they live, so its pretty uncool to tell them that where they lives sucks . . . especially when you're a spoiled rich boy that has become an even more spoiled NBA player.

And Ekker, I don't think there's anything secretive about Noah hating LeBron. He makes it pretty obvious if you ask me.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Marcus Camby has signed a two-year contract extension with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed Tuesday.

The 6-11, 235-pound center was acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers on Feb. 16 in exchange for Travis Outlaw and Steve Blake. He started 23 regular season games for the Trail Blazers, reinforcing a position depleted by injuries to Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla.

Portland went 17-6 with Camby in the lineup, and the 36-year-old grabbed 17 rebounds Sunday as the Trail Blazers beat Phoenix in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series.

In a statement, general manager Kevin Pritchard said Camby has been a "great fit for us."

Totally agree Joe. It's a guy that's easy to hate if he's on the other team, not just because of his comments but because he's an animal on the court.

They lost last night but he went for 25 and 13 while being booed every time he touched the ball. The guy is nasty. We need some of that on this team.

11mil for Camby. Good for him. Good guy, hard worker....but that is way too much money for an OLD defensive specialist. How did he manage to get himself a raise at 37years old?

This summer they could have signed him for 7mil per year tops. Probably the Midlevel would have bought him...

I'm with ClipfanSince88... You don't talk about their city like that. They all live there for a reason. And not only that, it has absolutely nothing to do with basketball. Just like telling someone their sister has a deformed face or something.. It's your opinion and it may be true, but you keep that information inside. You don't tell the media your open feelings about a city.

the only issue i have with joakim making that comment is the effect that it might have on the cavs players (most dont even live/ care for cleveland. most probably snickered when they heard the comment.). i could care less about the fans since they're gonna be playoff loud anyways.

other than that, im glad joakim's not scared to voice his opinion. i effin love that guy now. (heck, if he said that about los angeles i would laugh since its just a straight up random yet hilarious comment.)

but its cleveland we're talking about. CLEVELAND. the armpit of america.

Interesting double standard you have going on. LeBron spends a couple minutes dancing on the sidelines during a game and it makes him the biggest jerk off on the planet, while Noah insults a whole city (twice) and he's a hero. To each his own, I guess.

^^^Yes, I got the sense that if Noah didn't have a running beef with Cleveland and LeBron he might not have risen quite as high on your list as he has. That's cool. At least you're up front about it . . . I can respect that.
