After a solid quarter and a half, the Clippers collapsed as Phoenix ran the Clippers to death. Starting midway through the 2nd quarter, he Suns seemed to get their hands on all the loose balls, got every steal, and hit a ton of 3's. The Clipper uptempo strategy really backfired tonight vs. the Suns- the defensive intensity simply wasn't there for the full 48 minutes. 3 point shooting? No comparison as the Suns hit 13 out of 29 from deep and the Clippers missed 12 of 16.
Kaman did play better though he fouled out in the 3rd quarter. Korolev had a nice 4th quarter with steady outside shooting and got some steals and rebounds to boot.
Here is the boxscore:

It's not looking good guys- at this point the Clippers have a long ways to go to be competitive with the elite teams of the West. |

Preseason can be very misleading, correct?
I saw the lakers vs. sonics game and kobe played half the game, which is half of what he plays in the regular season.
I didn't see the clipper game, but i'm sure the starters sat out, and the 2nd and even 3rd unit were the primary focus on the floor, not the starting unit. |

| Looks like Thorton had another good game with 16. This early in the preseason with starters out, new guys playing a new system, it's not a surprise we couldn't get it done against the Suns. Play them again on Saturday. |

| Maybe the answer is that they are better than us???Honestly we can't compete with Phoenix about who's gonna make more points because they will defeat us on 9 of 10 games...More when your key players at this point of the season (thorton and gette) shoot the ball bad. It's at least surprising that our rookie was the player who shot the ball more times in the game.isn't it? |

I was at the game last night. It was enjoyable in that we got to see a lot of minutes by the "bubble players". Except for a terrible stretch in the 2nd quarter, it was a good game. During that stretch the Suns ran their break, and everyone was sinking 3s. Ouch. It was something like a 20-2 run. After that, the Clippers played more reserves, and the Suns played their main rotation, so LAC was not in it to win in the 2nd half.
Highlights:
Ruben Patterson was the best player out there. Played with a lot of energy.
Tim Thomas played well early (when it counted).
Diaz looked good. He attempted a high-flying dunk over a Sun 7-footer (Marks or Skinner, I think), and almost had it. The crowd buzzed anyway. He aslo had some nice passes. Korolev showed some skills, maybe better than Diaz.
Not so impressive:
Brevin didn't contribute much. Not much ball movement, the team settled for too many mid-range jumpers. Nobody was feeding the post.
Thornton scored most of his points in a garbage time 4th quarter, so I think this was by far his least effective preseason game.
Dickau looked a little more functional at PG, but relied (unsuccessfully) on the outside jumper a couple of times instead of leading the team. |

| Thanks for the game report Ether! I was listening to the game online, and unfortunately they only had the Phoenix broadcasting team on so it was hard to get a good informative perspective on the Clippers. The main broadcaster kept going "SHAZAM!" whenever the Suns hit a 3- it got really annoying.... Shazam- is that some sort of magic spell word- WTH? |
