I met Baron at the Galeria mall. He seems like a really nice person, but in all respects, I think playing basketball for almost 10 years can burn you out a little bit. I wasn't a good basketball player in high school so I didn't have a chance to make the team, but I had friends who played and to this day, I notice, almost every player that played for this one coach doesn't even play pick up games. It's as if they avoid basketball. After playing in 4 hour practices with Dunlevy, I'm sure Baron has got to be burned out. I'm sure Don Nelson was refreshing but even Baron got on his bad side.

I'm considered about Del Negro's attitude towards Baron. In his interview, it seemed like he was going to be a stern teacher type. Based on my feel for Baron, I don't think he would respond to that type of coach. He is a guy that needs a lot of freedom to flourish and I think Del Negro needs to establish rules, but loosen the reigns and focus on Baron's strengths such as passing and creating, and definetaly not to over practice the players. Del Negro seems like a friendly but cool personality, I don't know him though, and Baron struck me as warm magic johnson type. Del Negro better try to make it fun or the team is done.

Winning is more important than fun.

Respected coaches like Greg Popovich and Jerry Sloan aren't known as warm and fun types who coddle their players. On the contrary, they hold their players accountable. Maybe that's why they are successful.

Baron is yet to find a way to respond positively to any coach. One can only hope that at 31 he will finally start to mature.

I don't think it is the type of coach that matters it is the style of offense. What caused the schism between Dunleavy and Baron was Dunleavy's insistence on using an offense with a playbook the size of a text book that confined Baron and kept him from being able to improvise which is his strength. Also Del Negro doesn't strike me as stern, on the contrary from what I have heard from those who have interviewed him he is a players coach who was generally liked by the Bulls players. I suspect he will only be stern when players slack off which is fine, that is what a coach should do. I am not concerned at all about the Del Negro, Baron relationship.

I think this could be a start to a great relationship... Really though... besides all the money Baron was getting last year.. what reason did he have to play hard... idk... I like to win so i would always go 110%.. but some people get down on themselves.

i really dont see a problem at all. Baron liked the hiring, wants to get up and down the court just like VDN wants to, and VDN wants to have give and take in their relationship. That's all any player could want in a coach, unless they just like being told what to do every play, then they can go play for popavich or dunleavy. The guys last season failed when they were just let lose because they basically didnt know how to play as a unit without having a set play they would run every time down the court. Once those were gone, so was any sense of organized basketball. Now is a fresh start for all the players. I dont see any reason to be concerned about the relationship between VDN and Baron right now. If Baron starts complaining like he's done to his past coaches then sure ill start to worry. But as of right now, everything is fine and dandy in clipperville.

I agree that winning is more important than fun, but the both can go hand and hand. Not sure if you follow college football, but look at what Pete Carroll did at USC during his tenure by creating a lively, fun atmosphere. It was always about winning, they just had more fun in the process. And honestly, Baron strikes me as a child more than an adult, maybe he needs that kind of coach, who knows?

^^ The mood was "fun" but now they are paying the price and Carroll left while the getting was good. Sorry, back to the topic...

winning is fun. thats why people eventually like pop and sloan as a coach maybe not fun to work hard in the beginning but it pays off in the end

That's exactly what I said in my original post.

Either way, we're in agreement. wink
