They are not too fast for blake, did you see Blake defend a guard the other night? I forget who it was, but he stayed with him no prob...
I agree that blake needs to work on his defense, and it's primarily one thing in particular and I know why he does it, but he needs to realize that he doesn't have to... his problem is that he always just stands there with his hands straight up in the air. This is great for him to not pick up a foul, however, opposing players now know that he does this and have no worries at all shooting over him...
What does he need to do? Well, I think he should keep putting his arms up like he does, but he really needs to correctly anticipate when his opponent is going to shoot, and then he needs to actually JUMP!!!
But, like his hands being straight up, he also needs to jump straight up. I would recommend a slight spin as well so that he ends up with his back to the defender putting him in prime rebounding position while also helping his chances in preventing a foul.
When I say anticipate I mean as soon as a defender makes a move, after picking up the dribble, he needs to bend his knees, get low, and get ready for the jump, but only immediately as the ball is leaving the opposing players hand. His goal should not be to block the shot while it's in/near their hands, but while it's in the air, that's what he should be aiming for.
Players will have to shoot so high and so fast that it will make their attempts much more difficult (there's only one person I can think of that this won't affect much and that's dirk).
Can someone please translate/get that to him, pretty please?
