DeAndre Jordan, what is he worth?

Kendrick Perkins got a new contract extension from the Thunder today for 4 years 34.8 million.

Do you think DJ will ask for that? Would it make sense to pay him those kind of numbers?

I think anything more then 6 mill a year would be a mistake. Having said that, we need to pay a premium to keep Blake happy.

Dj's gonna ask for 5m-6m per year. not a steal, but not bad either.

If DJ does indeed want $5-$6 million per then it's a no-brainer: sign him.

not sure if he's worth that much yet... he gets into foul trouble ALOT. free throws is an issue as well (specially yesterday) I do not think he's worth the 5-6mil a year yet. I do not think we should let him walk either. hope all works out at the end. would be nive to keep him and have him come off the bench.

If we sign him its not to come off the bench. Soon as he signs they will be pounding the phones to trade Kaman for a SF. If by chance the new CBA allows for more cap room then they can keep Kaman (wait for his contract to expire along with MO and get a star PG) and go after a Jason Richardson type.

[quote="Tzviness]If we sign him its not to come off the bench. true. question for you:

Based on DJ's performance this year vs Kaman's performance last year who would you rather have as a starter?

I do not think Kaman is a better player I think they are both becoming some what equal as DJ has improved. I just do not see him as a starter.

His contract is up at years end.

Perkins just signed a 4 yr/ $34 mil contract with OKC.

DeAndre has not showed the level of play that Perkins has shown.

Kaman is signed through next year.

An extension with DJ might make Kaman's $12 million contract expendable to trade.

What do you think he is worth?

I'm think about $6 mil a year.

Hopefully he's not worth more than 6mil to start. Unfortunately we won't get the chance to set his market value. We just have to wait and see what the best offer he gets and hope it's not too much.

I worry somebody with cap space and no center is going to offer him something ridiculous with front loaded money that hits the first two years and makes it difficult for us to resign without risking the chance at DWill next summer.

Best case is 5years, 30mil. Worst case is some moron offering him 5years, 60mil. This could be tough to swallow for a guy with so many gaping holes in his game.

I think you give him three years at 4.5 - 6 million... If he doesn't improve, you're not married to him forever... If he does improve, he can cash in again in three years... It's fair for both... If he wants 8 -million a year, you let him go and extend Kaman.

$5M to $7M is probably where I would put him. It wouldn't surprise me to see someone offer $8M though. I don't think I would go more than $8M, because he still has a lot of work to do. You're paying for some potential that he may or may not reach.

DJ compares pretty favorably to guys like Verajao who makes about $7M/year I think...

If you sign DJ for 5 or 6 mil a year it's a decent investment. You either get a guy who blossoms (which I don't see) for a pretty good price, or you are able to trade him away to a team willing to take that hit on a big man who isn't terrible.

I don't think DJ could command 8mill a year because he's still so young. That and the new CBA that is going to take place might cut everyone's salaries.

I think the most DJ can ask for is like 5.5 mill ballpark range. And were more than likely giving him something, it'd be retarded to let him walk seeing as how Kaman gets hurt all the time.

BTW Dj was a 2nd rounder, and is only a 3rd year player, I don't think he can command a ton of cash. Being a veteran and I believe where you were drafted in your 2nd contract, has something to do with the money you can ask for.

For those that say 5 mill is too expensive, its either we pay him, OR we sign some loser like Diogu or Collins to multi year deals and pay them to play 20 minutes a game.

I think Verajao is quite a bit better than DJ... That's the guy DJ might one day become... Perhaps a little bigger.

Perkins won an NBA Championship and is easily considered one of the top 3 defensive big men in the game, and is really one of the only guys that can go toe to toe with Dwight Howard. Varajeo has played numerous seasons and has been to the NBA Finals, is a big time fan favorite during Clevelands Hey Days, and is a big time energy player who is there for the same reaosns DJ is, but does it better.

DJ won't command a lot of money, as I said before he can't sign a huge deal, nor can he command a ton of cash. Even if he could, I doubt he'd want to leave LA. The chances of him being the full time starter here are pretty high considering Kamans expiring contract, all of his injuries, and DJ being cheaper, as well as him working very well with Griffin. Keep Griffin happy by keeping the young players that he likes around him. Baron was a tough loss for Blake but I am sure Mo Williams will fill in rather nicely.

He will get about 6-7 mil. Great upside and shown improvements across the board a defensive anchor for the team and is the perfect compliment to the style of play with Blake Griffin. Jordan will take assignments that are too tough for Griffin and with that his stats when you look at the stats Jordan is in the same ball park as Kendrick Perkins

You also have to take into consideration Perkins had Pierce, Garnett, Allen (Allen was okay in the team defense) and Rondo as great defenders with him Jordan is working with currently Griffin, Gomes, Foye and a downgrade on defense from Baron to Mo it's going to be much harder to anchor the defense working with this as support. Remember when we had Gordon, Davis, and Gomes(when he put consistent efforts) we were one of the top ranked defenses in the league at one point second.

Perkins is a better FT% but DJ makes up for it with being less TO prone, NOT BEING INJURY PRONE and having a better FG% with the fouling is about the same with a .2 difference. Last thing this is the third year for Jordan which is huge and his very first season as a starting Center he has excelled past expectations considering the circumstances and still has huge potential.

and D and stop getting into foul trouble and......... (anyone else wants to add) dont get me wrong i like the guy but needs more work then the clips originally thought. if he can start getting more rebounds and a few more points he should be golden.

I strongly disagree. Their numbers per 36 minutes are very similar, except DJ is a more efficient scorer, and Verajao a much better free throw shooter. DJ is also the superior shot blocker, and Verajao is a good bit older than DJ.

Verajao career per 36 minutes: 10.4 ppg- 3.4 orpg-6.7 drpg-1.1 bpg- 51.9%FG- 60.5%FT.

Jordan career per 36 minutes: 10.1 ppg- 3.6 orpg-6.9 drpg- 2.3 bpg- 63.9%FG-40.6%FT.

The numbers don't lie, though right now I think Verajao is a better overall defender, but DJ has been improving. Verajao is making aroundr $7M, and they seem pretty comparable to me. I'd give the slight edge to Verajao due to his experience and overall defense.

DJ should be better than Verajao is right now within the next couple of years, as long as he works hard.

DJ has been working on his offense. In the last few games, I've seen him pull a few pretty post moves, he's handling the ball much better, and he's throwing some good passes. Kid is a hard worker, I say we lock him up long term. I'd be happy to give him a 5-6 year deal worth 5-8 million per year.
