Hey guys, I haven't posted in a while due to some personal stuff, but the kid is back now!

What do you guys feel is our biggest need from the upcoming draft?

Judging from the mock drafts I've seen, it appears that we don't have a first-round pick (due to the BD trade) but we do have 2 second rounders.

In my mind, there's a few things we need to address.

  1. We need a SF who's... actually good.

  2. Is Bledsoe really the PG of our future?

  3. Can DJ ever be a starting Center? I think we've waited long enough for his offensive game to blossom and we haven't seen much.

To the polls CTB!!!

Players we can trade. We don't need more pups. They don't win PO games and we need to upgrade. No good FA's out there. We have to have trade bait

8) Unless there is something special out there, i'd rather use our 2nd round picks in a trade deal. i agree with the other guy who said we don't need more pups. but how do....

teams rebuilding are suckers for 2nd rd. draft picks. the only teams rebuilding i see that would see our picks as a real asset are the pacers, bobcats, cleveland, washington, and maybe houston or phoenix so

This off season will be about moving one or more of our small forwards, Gomes, Moon or the combo forward Smith and getting a solid replacement in via trade or free agency...

I don't expect there to be any big doings this off season, nor should there be... I'll go into next season gladly with the team we have plus that one adjustment...

I'm guessing we don't do a damn thing this summer. I think the team moves Kaman for a SF if given the chance, but I don't see that happening. I think the team just rolls with what they have... Aminu starting though. The team seems pretty set on adding a 3rd star to the team and I think they'll save their cap space for one of the big 3 come 2012.

Our focus should be on FA's not draft picks. We already have Aminu, Bledsoe and Warren who we should look to develop going into next season.

We traded our lottery pick away because the FO thinks this draft blows, and they're probably right. We don't need to worry about anything in the draft so it'll probably be a pretty boring off-season unless something sweet happens in free agency, which is again unlikely.

Clips don't need a draft pick. They need swagger! The players need to be arrogant and believe they are the best players on the planet. Any FA or headcase who has talent but can't be controlled by their current team, should play for the Clippers. Kobe and the rest of the Lakers, players, coaches and management, forces difficult FA to work the Lakers way. Hence the stupidly hard to learn, but effective triangle offense.

Our players need a powerful personality to be the leader and keep everyone playing as winners. Blake is going to be that man! We don't need much and we don't need another draft pick - we need seasoned players.

Well we're not going to get our starting 3 in the 2nd round of this draft. If they use the picks, I hope they get a solid senior from a big program, regardless of position. Nolan Smith, LaceDarius Dunn, or somebody like that....Maybe the other pick is a teenage euro big that we leave over there for a few years.

He's not what we need exactly but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Lakers be open to a straight swap of Artest for Gomes. Much will depend on how Ron plays in the playoffs, if he chokes they'll want to move him and save money.

Right now, trying to be realistic in the amount of money we'll have available in Free Agency and that we won't want to sign a guy beyond one year with cap space for DWill in mind for next summer...I think JHoward for 3mil, 1 year deal is about the best we'll do. If he's healed up by Oct. that's all we'll need to be a playoff team.

Signing Prince, Caron, AK47, any of these 30+ year old good players...It's going to take a legit multi year offer. I don't know what any of these guys will expect exactly but it's definitely not going to be a 1year deal. That's fine with me if it's a great player and we're comfortable with Bledsoe as the PG going forward...but it seems like the FO is looking toward next year to try to have max money available for DWill or CP3.

If that's the goal, we're not getting any of these top vets. Any new signings which go beyond next season are going to hurt the chances of having max money available after resigning EG next.

As it is now, even giving DJ 6 or 7mil and EG getting 12mil...We'll still have a max slot under a similar salary cap as there is today. Again, there won't be many teams with that flexibility and with Blake and EG, we are now a destination. We'll probably be the FAVORITES to get DWill next summer. I think that's worth the risk to go another year with Aminu and a JHoward type platooning at the 3.

The only type of player I would want in a draft would be a big 2 gaurd. Having a tall backup at that position would be nice because we are very small at that position with gordon and foye. I know JR smith is a free agent and he can be a jack ass quite often but not many people have his talent. If his head was ever screwed on right he would be an allstar every year. AFA is the future small forward we need to sign a veteran at that spot untill afa is ready. Hopefully caron, battier, AK47, or Prince would take a 1 to 2 year deal. Honestly I dont really see any reason to draft a player this year we have most of the young pieces we need to build around.

I would use 1 draft pick for a C, for insurance incase DJ or Kaman get injured... I really like Senior 6"11 Keith Benson out of Oakland, reminds me of DJ with his blocking ability but has a nice jump hook.

The other pick I would try to ship Gomes + 2nd round pick

This draft really doesn't mean anything. The acquisition of a FA or a player trade is what I 'm hoping to see this offseason. If it doesn't happen, I will be very disappointed in Olshey again. Still haven't gotten over the fact that Gomes is our FA starting SF, but that's just me.

We won't do anything this summer, and that won't be a surprise. The draft sucks and the free agency class probably won't offer us much excitement except maybe Prince. I didn't want him at first but I'm starting to come around to the idea. I think someone already mentioned this but I bet he would be a really good mentor for Aminu.

People need to relax, we need these 2nd round draft picks. People act like if we draft a guy in the 2nd round, he's gonna get 20-30 minutes a game and were going to have to suffer while we watch him develop. This isn't a 1st round pick were talking here, more than likely we use both, send 1 to the D-League or he doesn't make the roster, and the 2nd pick we use as a bench player who rarely plays.

Fact is if we can get the guy from Oakland University ( Keith Benson I believe is his name ) who will play PF or C in the NBA, he's WELL worth the pick. We all have our favorites but he would be a great player to mold off the bench, and would highly benefit from playing in the D-League. He comes from the Summit League, a weak NCAA conference, but the D-League would help him in playing against bigger, tougher players who are a bit more skilled. And if we don't trade Kaman, and we retain DJ, he'd be sitting away on the bench, so we could put him in the D-League while he develops and gets a lot of playing time while we move along with our year next year.

And, if we don't want to re-sign Kaman, or we trade him, we can just call him up. BUT Benson is projected to go anywhere from a late lottery pick, to the early 2nd round as of right now. He's also getting a trainer to pack on 15lbs to bulk up as well. SO, I doubt we get him.

As for another one of our 2nd round draft picks, I'd say go with the best player available, I don't care if its a PG, SG or w/e position he plays, get the most talented guy out there, PREF a guy that is a junior or a senior. He may not have room for growth, but he'll have an extra couple years on most of the draft picks, and should be smart enough to know his role right away.

If we really want someone in round 1, and I doubt we do, we could package both 2nd rounders + a player to move into the first round.

Also, don't be surprised if we trade both picks ( 1 to Portland, Dallas or SA ) for cash, and 1 for a future 2nd rounder seeing as how we have little confidence this draft is worth a damn.

I'd expect both of our picks to either A) not make the team or B) get sent to the D-League right away. This draft isn't super strong, and with the draft being weak, trades aren't going to be probable, so we'd have to use the picks in ways that Baseball does and send the guys to the D-League aka the Minors to develop and hope they pan out into something of a role player in the NBA.

And I tire of hearing we don't need any more young players. Whats the case going to be next season when we get a top 5 pick from Minnesota? We should just trade it or forfeit it? Christ next years draft is going to be easily one of the best drafts in the last 2 decades, and will get even better when more players decide to stay another year in college, see Sullinger from Ohio State whose already going back for another year, he could have been a top 5 pick or better.

i wouldnt be surprised if both 2nd round picks that we have end up not making it past summer league. I dont think we want to give up roster spots to more rookies. I think the only way the 2nd round picks get on the team is if they really impress in summer league or they out play like willie warren which would be hard to do.

Agreed ^

My post may have been lengthy but I believe I am pretty spot on. Not to be an ego maniac, but I am not sure whose draft pick we have outside of our own, so right now I believe we have ours which would be pick 8 in round 2, that pick is "somewhat" valuable and I think we should draft the best available player on the board, and invite him to summer camp. If he performs well, send him to the D-League and explain the situation that we have a lot of youngsters on the team, we have some vets we signed and we want you to play a lot, and we need you in the D-League to get as much playing time as possible. We have faith you will be a big part of our team in the future, but we don't want you to be discouraged and waste your talents getting limited minutes a game. Your time will come.

As for the 2nd pick, more than likely that's going to be a garbage pick, IF NOT then I say we try to package both picks for a 1st rounder from ANY team next year even if it's someone awesome like Chicago. That draft is going to be so ridiculous my pubes may fall off and form a wig for Dick Cheney.

I wouldn't mind using our pick on Bojan Bogdanovic, a 6-7 Croatian sharp shooter! If you haven't seen his highlights yet you should definitely check him out. Would be awesome if we could get him and Keith Benson or Nikola Vucevic.

Prince is actually a pretty good solution. I would sign him to a 2-3 year deal and by the time his contract is up we have Aminu to take over with Bledsoe in the lineup. I would rather see our team do this than overpay for someone.

We own the Pistons 2nd round pick this year, so it looks like were going to have 2 of the top 10 picks in the 2nd round this year. We own the pick from the Alex Acker trade years back.

Also, why isn't Center on this list? If Keith Benson is available, or w/e his name is from Oakland, we need to draft that guy immediately.

And I'd take SG off the list and put this...

A REAL SG that isn't 6'3" or shorter that doesn't consider hisself a combo guard.

We need a backup big man, and a SF. However in round 2 of the draft, we need to take whatever is best available on the draft board. We need another DeAndre Jordan / DaJuan Blair steal in round 2.

I was REALLY hoping to get Kawhi Leonard (SDSU) from the draft, but now that we lost our first round pick, I think there's some great opportunities to get value in the second round. Particularly a good-shooting tall small forward who I feel can produce instantly like Chandler Parsons from Florida.

About Derrick Williams from Arizona? I really liked him in the tourny and he's about 6'8' I think? But I didn't hear anything yet about him going into the draft. He's a sophomore. Plus he's a combo forward. But one thing I'm not sure is that he could go in the first round. But then I think of DeJuan Blair. Williams was kind of like Blair, good but quiet and a little under the radar.

Everything depends on whether or not we make a trade. If Kaman goes out for a SF, then we definitely need to draft a back up center in the second round. If Kaman stays, and we don't have a 1st round pick, we will need to use our cap space, or max out to the cap. and use a mid level exemption to try and bring in a legit SF. If they can not accomplish that then it will all be about saving cap space for the summer of 2012.

People keep saying we don't need any more rookies, or we don't need anyone. So let's just give up the picks then according to them right?

2 top 10 2nd round picks could net us a player we could potentially use, as I said before there's a guy I'd like us to grab. Potentially, we could ship both picks for a future 1st rounder to a playoff team right now ( like say, a San Antonio who loves 2nd rounders, and prob wouldn't mind giving up a 1st round pick thats going to be in the 20's ).

We need to use these picks to draft 2 young guys that may end up being something. I know these guys don't have the potential to be a Monta Ellis, Manu Ginobili etc 2nd round steal, but you never know, and these guys we potentially draft could very well be efficient role players for our team in the future, or potential trade bait to a diff team.

We can't just say we don't need any more rookies or players on the team. If Management really feels that way, then lets see if they trade 1 or both the picks in the draft for players, or a future draft pick, or sells them for cash.

Until then, get a swingman, and another big man.
