9-11 million dollars per year? im sorry but that's just way too much. 7.5 is the max we should go with DJ

I think Ramona's prominent agent source is DJ's agent. Either that, or she's sleeping with his agent. An agent's estimate for market value is about as good as a good faith home loan estimate 3 years ago. Until we start seeing offers, I'm not going to hold my breath that DJ can command that much.

People question whether this guy should start or come off the bench and his value is at 9 million a year? Huh? DJ is not close to that level yet, he needs to improve a lot more before he is worth that kind of money.

7 mill a year MAX if that, I'd rather pay him 5 mill a year. He's not worth more than 5 in my book. We'd be paying 2 C's over 20 million dollars of our what 56 million dollar cap space, while Gordon and Griffin make peanuts compared to these 2.

If DJ wants that much money, its time to trade Kaman, 2 Centers making that kind of cash is obscene.

My bet was $8 mil

the guy hasnt proved he is worth that kind of money at all and I agree with lotsohope that the source is most likely his agent, lol.

if someone is crazy enough to offer that much they can take him, because that would totally sink us for a guy who hasnt even shown he can consistently perform offensively or defensively

kaman is gonna get about $12.5mil in the last year of his contract. DJ doesn't have half the skills kaman does. i think kaman will be a great barometer on reasoning with DJ that he is not ready to get star player money. maybe he can sign a 3-yr $15-18mil contract and then see where we are at the end of those 3 years. if any team offers him upwards of $10mil/year then we're going to lose him for sure... and then we'll be losing blake in a few years also.

Trading Kaman and keeping DJ is the ultimate in whackosity. "Blake and Kaman compliment eachother in the paint" Ralph Lawler. Guys DJ may have maxed out as far as production. What else can he do? Not much. Next yr Kaman will have added another weapon

agree kaman compliments blake so much more then dj. His 15 footers open the lane up for blake. When DJ is in the game the other defender pretty much doesn't guard DJ and can stay in the paint because if DJ can do anything its a slam dunk. The paint gets way to congested. A healthy kaman is a top 5 center in this league, which also says how weak they center spot is in the NBA nowadays. DJ is a great back up center on a playoff contending team he is worth 5 -7 million a year. I love DJ but if you can only black shots and rebound your not a starting center who deserves a big pay day.

Good to see the Kaveman getting the love he deserves again for being a top center in this league, when healthy.

Caiman actually blocked 2 shots. DJ is only reliable in being unreliable. His points are all garbage. If he scored the same # of points but they were layups and soft shots instead of dunks we wouldn't even be having this discussion, be honest. Is this guy going to be a lot better next yr? I doubt it but he's a great addition to the team. We can pick up a servicable Back up center for less than $8 who can do much the same. $6-6.5 but no more.

Too hip, name names. No way DJ doesn't get upwards of 8 mil per. This league pays on potential if it means stealing players. Every season, we think players will get smaller contacts, snd every year, travis outlaw's of the nba get 7 million per year contacts.

If DJ wants or thinks he's getting 7-9 mill a year or more, he can head over to the Knicks or someone else. For a guy that has yet to avg double digit boards or points in a season, hit anything from the FT line, or show any sort of consistency.... he isnt worth what they are saying

This is a load of bull and he better not get to thinking he's going to cash in big time here, its a clear way for the media to get him to leave the Clippers because we wont pay him what he wants and their way to slowly get our team to crumble because were sposed to lose all the time, not have a better player than anyone on the Lakers.

The CBA will help us retain him, I think. I don't think that teams will be rushing to overpay for long-term deals without knowing where salary levels are going to be set. The smart money says that salaries will be lower. This is a business vs. labor battle and organized labor is being demonized in the press right now. The owners will spin the message to be "These spoiled athletes want their solid-gold escalades, and you poor fans will have to pay higher prices unless we wonderful owners stop the greed". It's the same argument as the Wisconsin Governor used against the....

Whenever I defend Kaman I seem to get torched. Now in this thread it's DJ getting torched.

Also, if there IS some kind of immature beef Blake has with Kaman, it probably isn't going to help them "complimenting each other" on the court, although I think it's true. I think Kaman compliments him because when you have a 7 footer who will make mid-range jumpers, the defense has to respect that and it opens up space for Blake. DJ just seems to be a puppet in the Blake Show.

People talk about how we don't "need DJ to be an offensive center", he can "just be a defensive presence". Thats great and all but Kaman is hilariously more skilled than DJ offensively and also can play defense.

We may not need DJ to be an offensive player but I think a starting center should be able to do something with the ball. Its sad how he cant do anything with the ball. The clippers have to retain DJ though to make blake happy. There best friends if the clippers let him walk then blake will look at it like were not trying to win and he will want to eventually leave the team. We have to make blake feel good about this organization.

If people want to compare kaman and DJ its just ridiculous kaman is by far a better player not even close. As far as DJs potential what could it be I dont see his offensive game improving at all. You figure he has played ball since he was a kid and he has no offensive skill what so ever.

The CBA may change the $$$ Remember Carmelo. I can name names if I know how much we're willing to pay. The question is this. Add the value of each center plus their back up together, (Kaman + X) or (DJ + X) and compare the two quantities and figure relative value. If you're going to....

ps

I'm more interested in Kobe Bryant's stats than I am keeping DeAndre to keep Blake happy. When we make the 2nd round that will have been long forgot.

Kaman is also a lot older than DJ. At 22 years old, DJ is every bit as good as Kaman was at that same age, they're just different kinds of players.

Just to kill all these arguments in one blow if they are no where near each other then they shouldn't be battling for the starting spot.

Either Kaman is overpaid under-achiever or Jordan has stepped his game up to be a 2nd round pick challenging a top pick in one of the most historic drafts in NBA history. Something has to give let that s*** sink in for the doubters.

One semi-last comment

Blake will not leave if DJ leaves. He'll leave if we don't win. He doesn't care who is on the team. A Western Conference playoff spot will make the Ghost of Centers Past be a distant memory

BTW this the funnest post in a while. It's right up there with Baron, MDSr and Magettee. Let's not quit now. We still can get a lot of mileage.

If we sign DJ to a deal that is above 5 mil a season then I expect to see a much improved player next year. He needs to stop the 3 second violations, make at least 60% of his free throws, and have a scoring move that is not a dunk or layup. He wants the big money then he better start earning it. With more money comes more responsibility and accountability of performance. Just my opinion anyway.

This is how I see DJ: He is a role player who is disguised as an important player because we're the Clippers and love anything that seems like it might be good, but in reality on a solid team DJ would just be a backup role player. A good one, but still one nonetheless.

Well yes we do but a lot of people don't see it. In reality on a solid team DJ would just be a backup role player. A good one, but still one nonetheless.

I think the team is better with DJ in the game than with Kaman. I don't like Kaman playing with Blake, Kaman takes way to many shots.

not really. for one, those 3 second violations are an every game occurrance. plus the fact that teams can double blake and just make sure that DJ doesnt get within 5 feet of the basket doesnt help. he is a solid backup center at best. people keep saying that if DJ can make 60 percent of his free throws he will be ok. last time i checked 60 percent is pretty shitty still. its an improvement for DJ, but not really if you look at it. he needs to learn a hook shot at least and a little baby jumper. thats going to take him at least a season. the pro to trading kaman would be that we can get a good sf for him. but that will leave us with a huge hole at center considering that DJ will be the starting center, but who will back him up.
