This is the article Eric Pincus said his friend was writing up today.

By now everyone has heard that the first round pick the Los Angeles Clippers gave the Cleveland Cavaliers for taking Baron Davis off their hands turned out to be the Cavs' dream come true and the Clippers' worst nightmare.

With only a 2.8 percent chance of winning the lottery, the Clips were reasonably certain they were conveying a lower pick in a draft they didn't particularly like. But fate laughs at us all, and it seems to laugh loudest at the Clippers. Sure enough, the carrot they dangled turned out to be the first overall pick.

Continued on....

i thought he was going to transition into saying how it's a long shot for us to keep blake griffin here. i'm glad he stayed on topic and actually defended our thought process. thanks coon.

exactly - Larry didn't like what the other dude tried to put out there cutting down my article. Illegal outright to do the protection. If you look to circumvent - you risk the 2012 pick

clipper value the 2012 pick tremendously - either as a trade asset or for their own use.

they didn't value the 2011 draft options - they didn't - some think Irving will be great but he's the best in a crap draft and even that I'm not sure of (Walker)

Opinion on the move can bounce around but here's the basic scenario.

1) Clippers did not want Baron any more - it was a priority to move him. (Those who support Baron represent their position - not the actual teams).

2) They value Mo Williams as a better fit.

3) They liked the cap flexibility the deal brought them.

4) They didn't value the 2011 draft as much as the losing Baron, gaining Mo and the cap flexibility.

5) They highly value the 2012 pick as either a trade asset or draft asset.

6) They want to be a playoff team immediately and want more veteran help to do so rather than just add more kids.

Now can they turn that flexibility into the piece they're looking for?

That's what we need to wait on . . .

Plans are only good if they come through and so far it's too early to judge.

Eric is it illegal to post a full article? If so I wasn't aware. I've always posted full articles so that people don't have to follow links.. but I edited it anyways.

Websites live off of hits. Posting full articles takes away from the site and from Eric's pocket. That's how websites stay afloat. I don't think you were around when Eric asked us to not post the full articles. A teaser paragraph should suffice along with a good title, but Eric is pretty good in posting his articles quickly.

I think since Eric had his hands in this one, he's looking out for his friend.

Very well written article. I think the Clippers made the right decision. I had no idea before reading the article how the pick rules worked. So essentially we will probably have a top 10 pick in next years stronger draft. As long as Mo and Bledsoe do better than Kyle Irving in his rookie year I will be ok with this deal.

or the 2012 pick becomes a trade asset - we have to see what becomes of these decisions - too early to cry cause of circumstances that suggest the clippers made a mistake when really it's completely independent

once we see what happens by July, then we can all pass judgment. Olshey said we are going to make a move before the end of June so I am looking forward to what that is.

Man that was complicated- I stopped reading halfway through. Okay so I'm convinced- I think. It's too bad though we couldn't wait to see what our pick is before the ping pong balls rolled.

I agree with you. If Olshey doesn't get a nice piece this offseason... then I'll go ahead and criticize this decision.

july is too early - it's really until next lottery - if they're counting on using the minny pick and who they get
