Hey all,

Here’s my latest:

Predicting 2011 Free Agency

http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=20359

I have David West to Pacers " for Lakers, Jeff Foster and Willie Green " for Clippers Shane Battier.

I take my best crack at an impossible task - but I'm curious to see how close I come once the lockout is done!

Thanks

Eric

I wouldn't mind Battier as a one year rental. Fits our needs.

Wouldn't mind Grant Hill. HE is a young 38.

I'm afraid that these veteran SF's are going opt to play for a deep playoff team contender...JMHO.

I'd rather have Grant Hill on a one year rental than Battier, but both guys are true professionals.

I'll call Grant, I'll get backs sometime in 2014 after the lock out and tell how it went.

Gerald Green plays in Europe. I'm sure he'll be seeing some familiar faces soon enough.

I would love Battier. He is one of those players that teams need to win. Unselfish, dependable, always in position, has the three point threat and can guard whoever you want him to. Extremely efficient. Veteran presence. All class. We could do a lot worse.

On another note. NBATV is filling the summer league void with varied programming, including showings of previous Draft Days. Lousy video but interesting. Of special note, during the '87 draft the announcer mentioned how "most are calling this a weak draft", and no less than Red Auerbach himself stated that the drop off after David Robinson was huge. Starting with Robinson, other notables from '87... Reggie Miller, Scottie Pippen, Reggie Lewis, Kevin Johnson, Horace Grant, Mark Jackson, Derrick McKey, Muggy Bogues, and Sarunas Marciulionis. Not that big a drop off, not that weak a draft. This (2011) was supposed to be a weak draft also, but obviously even experts aren't always right. Who knows, maybe our rookies will contribute.

The experts can say whatever they want about any particular draft. Those Clipper rooks are 2nd Rounders. They both fit into what the Clips are doing. There's pre-existing players on the current roster that both guys can step in for right away. They aren't high risk players according to their draft position. They won't cost an arm and a leg, so they won't be overspent on.......which will free up some cash elsewhere if both players are able to fill a role sooner rather than later.

All Trey and TLes have to do is make the team so a pair of more expensive and less talented players can walk. I think they'll both far exceed expectation this season and beyond, and not just because they don't have to do much to get there.

Ya, this team's pretty young. I'm kinda worried about that as well. The vets like Battier, Hill, and Prince probably can't identify with the young Clipper players.......even if Blake Griffin and his work ethic becomes the most recognizable aspect of this team's new age Clipper culture.

How would Battier not identify with a young Clippers team? Gasol, Conley, Mayo, Allen, Gay, Haddadi etc etc on that team are all young players. Even Sam Young, Grevious etc are young players. We've got as much veterans on our team as the Grizzlies do and as much young talent as they do.

Battier and a lot of these veterans are nice options, it all depends on what we decide to do. Grant Hill can easily say he wants to play for the Clippers but its up to management to work out a contract in general. I am sure there are potential targets for our team via free agency and I am sure they have their eyes on players like Cp3, D12, D Wills etc as potential trades.

1 thing is clear, we want to make calculated moves that improve our team and not overpay or part with anything too precious. Forget that we gave Cleveland our 1st rounder, the chances of us landing the #1 pick were 2.8% and as the years have gone on in the lottery, a lot of people call BS on where teams end up when the ping pong balls drop. See the Knicks the 1st year the lotto came out, Portland and Chicago, and even Cleveland this past year.

Regardless, were here to win and to build around Blake and Gordon, get into the playoffs and make some noise and compete for something that doesn't involve the best draft position for a change. If it were me and the Clippers were coming after me via free agency, I'd hate to pass up the chance to play with Griffin and Gordon and see them potentially really succeed during my time there, even win a championship and look back and say F**K I signed with the Knicks and we got spanked all 4 years in a row in the 1st round by Chicago, while the Clippers managed to get to the Western Conf Finals, and past round 1 multiple times during that time. I could have helped them go further.

Griffin is like Tim Duncan, Kobe, Lebron, Jordan etc, he's a franchise changer and he can take a crappy team and make it awesome just by his efforts alone. Once in a lifetime players like that don't come around too often and have always made their mark in history for their respective teams. It'd be dumb for people not to consider our team with Griffin here, and he seems happy to be on our team as well. And if we can pony up the cash and retain his best friend ( DJ ) we've got an even bigger chance he re-signs for a good long contract once he's up for an extension.

not sure Blake is in quite the same league yet as the aforementioned HOR'ers....they only won 3 more games with him. Don't get me wrong I think he'll be a great player...but how great, we'll just have to wait and see.

If he can get his Defense to the other players mentioned level, then he will be a huge game changer like the others. If not he will have a good impact but not nearly as much as those other players.

Blake added a 3pt game and a passing game that nobody knew he had. 4 assists a game at the PF position? Seriously for a rookie? Our team only winning 3 more games is due to multiple factors, remember Kaman, Gordon and Baron Davis all missed time last year, some more significant than others. Rhino, Foye and Cook also missed time. Which in turn, depletes our bench. Sure they aren't high quality bench players but it factors in.

Blake's on his way to superstardem that's a fact. It's rare to see a player put up those kinds of numbers and dip as his career goes on. Not every Hall of Famer makes a giant immediate impact on an increase of wins, given the injury circumstances we faced all last year I think 32 wins was lucky for us to have. Once we were healthy and made the trade, we went .500 the rest of the way out.

Besides Kobe (who didn't play that much his 1st yr) every other player you named increased the # of wins for their by team in their 1st year by double figures.....just say'n.
