Joe is again on the $.
Trade 2 would require Powell to step up huge (it looks like he is). We'd have zilch inside till EB gets back. Then we'd still be weak there after he returns. If Davis were healthy it would be manna from heaven as well.
Good analysis though |

Trade one is the best scenario. Ideally, I'd like Sam to stay and be an assistant coach...or rather the head coach of the Clippers. I'd do a CM for MM trade straight up, and if possible, throw in a first round pick (Wolves?) to snag one of their PGs: Navarro or Lowry. How sweet would it be if we could get Crittenton but I'm thinking Grizzlies want to keep him.
Honestly, I'll be really, really impressed with the organization if they're able to pull this off seeing they haven't done squat since getting Cassell 2.5 years ago. Another reason to get MM is that his contract is only two more years and ends when Thomas and Mobley's ends; that's about $20M of salary off the book come 2010 for the team to play with at that time.
Not even Baylor can screw this up!!!! Or at least I hope not... |

| The Griz want expiring contracts and first round draft picks. But our picks are likely to be more valuable than the Lakers picks, well at least this year for sure. |

| After the Pao deal, the GM of the Grizz talked about Miller being one of the two "faces of the franchise" (along with Gay) so you'd think that contract dumping or not, they're not going to just give him up for nothing. After all, they're trying to make buying the team attractive, that means it has to have winning potential... so they're not gutting the team just to dump salaries. As much as I'd love to see Miller as our pure shooting 2, I just can't see Memphis doing it for what we have to offer. 'Course now the Grizz DO have three quality point guards now... Lowry, Conley, and Crittenton. Well, at least potentailly good, none of them has actually played THAT much yet to prove anything long term, but the potential is definitely there for all of them, so you'd think that Memphis will move one of them eventually. This doesn't count Navarro who seems more a 2 who will play some point if forced... but is more comfortable putting up shots than running the show. We might make a deal for one of their young points. Still, the question is, do we have what they want? If we traded Corey (which I still think is questionable, why do they need Corey when they've got Gay?) for one of their three points (plus maybe a draft choice) then couldn't we use our pick this year to pick up a 2 from the draft? Gordon would be nice. Or if we could offer that expiring contracts deal for one of the points... it seems more likely that we could snag one of them for what we're offering than Miller. Then we could still use our upcoming lottery pick for a 2, or if Corey wants out, trade him for one. |
