LOL. About 75% (conservative) of lakers fans hate this trade. They lost all of their depth and height...I agree. Wink

Its really sad that the clippers weren't willing to give up potential for the best PG in the league... This is why the lakers are always ahead of us... Smh

it's mostly because cp3 was adamant on not signing an extension. it's 1 of 2 things. (1) he wants his bird rights to get traded so that he can make that extra 30 million if he re-signs with the team next year or (2) he can have the option to go to the knicks. why give up so much potential for just a 1 year rental?

Chris Paul is not the best point guard in the league.

That was smart on our part. No commitment from CP3, no deal. We won.

Now we get our lottery pick.

Hes not gonna commit to any team for an extension... because he'll make more money as a free agent... But every successful franchise (boston, lakers, and knicks) all went after him hard because they know the value of having the best pg in the nba .. This opportunity will never come up ft or the clippers again... And we were number 1 going into this...

He didnt want to come to the Clips that was apparent. I think the Lakers are worse for the trade and if we traded Gordon I think we would have been worse off.

Now I think we make a big time run at Howard since the Lakers only have Bynum for that trade which hopefully isnt enough. Blake and Howard next to each other, now that is an unstoppable force

This is from Bill Simmons' article on why we shouldnt trade for CP3 if it costs Gordon and I couldnt agree with him more...

Here's why the Clippers shouldn't give up Gordon and Minnesota's 2012 no. 1 pick for Chris Paul, especially if Paul won't promise to sign an extension. Look at that landscape. Our best four shooting guards are over 30 years old; only Wade still qualifies as being "unquestionably in his prime." I watched Gordon in person for three years " he's the no. 2 candidate to make a gigantic, Westbrook-like leap this season. (No. 1: John Wall; no. 3: James Harden.) Why trade a cheap player who has a chance to be THE BEST GUY at his position in three years AND a fantastic asset (Minnesota's pick in a strong 2012 draft) for a point guard with a sketchy knee who makes four times as much money? What am I missing? Even if Paul says, "I'll sign an extension," I wouldn't do that trade. I love Eric Gordon. Total gamer, total stud. Gordon for a promises-to-sign-an-extension Paul, straight up, is a fair deal considering New Orleans doesn't have a ton of options for him. Anything else is lunacy " especially when you factor in the part where the team with the tortured history is giving up the farm for a superstar with a possible knee problem. Sorry, I had to vent.

So if this retarded action goes down... what are their chances to get dwight? not trying to have a west coast big 3.

This is considering they traded away odom which was a piece of the trade to orlando...

Why is there a Laker thread on a clipper forum? Who cares if they CP3!

I think the plan for the Lakers was to move Odom's contract off the books as well to make room for Dwight Howard next year. The Magic could do one of two things:

  1. Trade him and get a low-ball offer because Howard will be a 1 year rental for any team he goes to not named the Lakers

  2. Take Andrew Bynum for him now and

Either way, there is no scenario that does not result in Dwight Howard landing on the Lakers.

I Agree on not trading Gordon... But the pick shouldve been gone ASAP! Never Rely on the draft... Us Clipper Fans should know that by now...

Clippers keep Minny pick and get a stud and with Kaman coming off the books and Mo will be amnestied next year to make space for Dwill.

So glad that we didn't trade for Paul. Trying to hold onto him and keep Griffin, EJ and DJ, or ANY of our other young talent would have been impossible 2-3 years down the road.

the reason they gave up the pick last year was because they knew the draft would suck because of the lockout. They only had about a 2% chance to get #1, so don't try to argue that. They don't wanna give up this pick because its highly likely to be top 5 in what will very likely be a loaded draft.

What don't you get about CP3 not committing to us? You keep posting the same thing over and over. He made it CLEAR he wasn't going to sign with us.

If/When DH ends up on the lakers, i suppose it increases our chances of talking deron into signing with us next summer....

Totally agree that the lakers got the worst of the trade. Who do they have now at the pf spot. Lamar as a six man is the best in the league. They upgraded the poi9nt gaurd spot but lost out on two allstar players. The lakers didnt need a terrific pg just one that can play good d and hit the open three. Kobe dominates the ball why go and get cp3. I could understand them going after dwight because he is the best Center in the game. But your left with Bynum down low who has never been healthy. Before each game laker management now will be on there knees praying he doesnt get hurt because they have nobody after him.

IM not even talking about landing the number 1 pick.. that was pure luck ... But even having a top 8 pick in any draft is super Valuable... Who knows how minny will do this year... in case you guys haven't noticed, they did just add Ricky Rubio (#5 pick) and Derrick Williams (#2) to there team.. I highly doubt they will be as bad as they were last year.. Having a Draft pick doesnt gurantee a great player... Trades do!

I was scared if LA got Howard, but unless they find some good bigs through free agency they are in trouble.

I do see this move extending Kobe's career a little, less pressure on him to create plays

Oh, for f**ks sake! 2012 is being called the best draft in years. It's actually a 2-in-1 considering how many studs stayed in college. A great young player for cheap, keeping Gordon and Griffin PLUS CP3 would have only been a rental anyway!

Olshey did the right thing, especially since CP3 has been yapping about going to NY or the Lakers. Who needs that kind of BS is the locker room?

Players don't win championships... TEAMS do.

what's not to get? the draft was very weak this year. cavs got a PG who played like 5 career college games coming off an injury. next years draft is projected to be one of the strongest drafts in recent memory and the minn pick has the potential to be a top-5, maybe even top-3, pick. it's that simple.

i feel how oshley handled it was great though. i wouldnt have given up anymore then what he offered especially without a contract extension. I hope for another move though. I really feel like we should move that pick for an upgrade if possible and trade kaman while we still can.

This is the first of a few moves the Lakers are going to make in my opinion. I'm reading that the Orlando Magic wants to dump Turkeglu's bad contract and will want the Lakers to pick that up as part of deal for Bynum. By moving Lamar out of town, they make room for this bad contract. They also add some flexibility to go after a few more FA's to surround Kobe, CP3, and Howard with. Olshey should be taking notes rather than making up rumors that the Clippers are a desired destination for top talent.

Boom said it right, it looks more and more like the Lakers will get Howard at some point. Remember, its the lakers, they dont rebuild, they just reload. Dwill will have less desire to re-sign in NJ if there is not a opportunity to win there. The reason our Minnesota pick is so valuable because we can still use it next summer in a sign and trade with New Jersey along with our other assets. The pick has the "potential" to be a franchise player so why wouldn't New Jersey be open to it if Deron Williams wnated to leave

The Fakers might've lost some size, but they gained youth. This trade is basically a sign of Buss admitting Kobe is past it and they need a younger guy like Paul to help recruit free agent talent in the future. Is it a guarantee that Paul will sign an extension with LAL?

Its just funny how everyone is saying the lakers got the bad side of the deal for trading Pau Gasol and Odom... Its CHRIS PAUL! lol the Guy DTS was trying to recruit 3 years ago on the sidelines... the clippers simply tried to LowBall the Hornets by offering basically nothing.. not even a draft pick lol... Oshley did a Horrible job of negotiating ... DTS is probably Furious haha
