Wait what? Funny story

This morning I wore my BG jersey to support my team (even though I am not going to the game) This guy says to me in the elevator, "nice to see an Ex-Laker Fan" I laughed and said, "No, I have been a clippers fan for a few years now. Way before all of this CP3 stuff." "Sure, Sure." He replied. "You guys can enjoy CP3 for this season. He'll be a laker next season. Watch you'll see." Again I laughed it off... He kept ragging on me about me being a clipper fan. After about 30 more seconds I couldn't take it anymore so I responded, "You sound like every other laker fan. you think you're the best team EVER. Sure you have "jewelry" that's very impressive. But what part did you have in that championship. Where you on the floor? NO! did you help with any trades? NO! Are the clippers the most exciting team this year. YES!! so let me enjoy the team I have rotted for these last few years and you can continue to be every other laker fan and LIVE IN DENIAL." Needless to say he left me alone after that.

Kind of made my day to make a laker fan shut up.... LOL

Clipper fan for a "few" years is nothing to brag about. BG bandwagon era?

Unfortunately, I've been a Clipper fan since 1998, lot of bad basketball...

No BG bandwagoner... BD Wagoner.... LOL. I was Davis fan but fell in love with the clippers. SO it's been a few years and. And I am glad you have been a fan since '98 applause to you. (not saying it rude)

Being a fan anytime before last October really isn't a BG bandwagoner. Yeah he was hurt for a year but no one is going to jump on a bandwagon because an injured rookie might be good. Plus, minor note: we were 32-50 last year. Not exactly winning status.

That's their only means of attack now, dice... label all clipper fans 'bandwagon'. I'm just gonna go with it...

Laker fan: "Nice to see an ex-laker fan"

Me: "Yeah, since they suck all kinda balls these days, I thought I'd hop the fence. Enjoy the lottery!"

haaaaaahahahahahahahahahahaha classic... I tried but it pissed me off when we kept going on and on and on about how great they are. Dont get me wrong they are still a top seed team and if they weren't they have n been a top seed team as far as I can remember. but we are talking about this year and this year only... GO CLIPPERS!!!

Look, we've got guys here on CTB that have been rooting for the Clips since their San Diego days, and they are tops in my book.

But as long as you've been on the bus before we landed Griffin, I think you deserve some sort of props. The older the better, of course... but I don't think it should turn into some indie band/hipster thing where people claim they were there first.

yeah ive been one since 1984 ......I welcome all clippers fans new or old as long as they can keep up the support win or loose, with blake griffin and chris paul AND without(meaning if we lost griffin and paul would you still root for the clippers)...............the 80s and 90s where the most painful.

I've been a fan since you could sneak into the old sports arena and down the escalator.....

I agree. again they got the best of me only because I root for the clippers because they are the clippers not because of the trades. you have to understand I grew up in a LAKERS FAM. of course i hated the clippers. That's what I grew up KNOWING... but PRAISE GOD my eyes were opened. clippernation is the place to be

Dude,,in 1970 to about 74 I worked at the Sports Arena as an usher for the Lakers,,,it was my job to battle those that snuck in to the arena. I never saw 1 game ever,,to busy chasing punks around and throwing them out! Very Happy

I still have my ticket stub for the first baskeball game I ever paid to see,,Clips vs the Hawks. About mid court, 15 rows back 25 bucks. 1988.

If I was 50, or grew up in So Cal, I would've been a fan for way longer but the way my life was, and is, as a current 26 year old who didn't grow up here, I've been a fan since 07 when I knew I was moving to So Cal. There was no way in hell I was going to be a Lakers fan so I became a Clipper fan.

Oh,,and I have to say I too am an ex-Laker fan. I started actually watching the NBA in 1980 because of MAgic Johnson. About 1986 I started watching the CLips too but I was a LAker fan. I went to CLips games because I couldn't afford Laker games. Thing is, I found myself rooting a lot of times for the Clips to try and pull one out,,even against Magic who was my favorite athelete of all time. I gave up the Lakers when Magic left. So I have only been a DIEHARD Clips fan for 21 years. Probably long enough to not be a bandwagoner.

I jumped on board around midseason '04-'05. I'm sure I've mentioned here before that I'd lived in L.A. for 5 years before I even knew that there were 2 teams here. I used to hang out with laker-fan friends when they watched the laker games (only ever playoffs, nobody ever seemed interested until then) but I never really cared about the result. It was like watching Man. Utd, Barca or AC Milan... the league powerhouse beating up on this week's victim.

When I caught a Clippers game on cable and watched Brand, Kaman, Maggette, Livingston and Q-Ross scrapping it out in front of a half-empty Staples, I honestly thought that the reason I hadn't heard of them was because they were from a lower league (like they have in European soccer). Either way, I was hooked. It seemed like watching laker games was like watching a movie when you already knew how it would end... the good guys always win, hooray, bluuuuugh!! Where's the fun in that?

I said "No thank you" to that sh!t. Give me a team with some drama, some heartache to test my loyalty. I got lucky in my first full season with Sammy's swag and Brand's All-Star performance. In the '06 playoffs, now it was me was dragging my laker friends to bars to watch the games, and although they'll never admit it... they f**kin' loved it, because there was no script for this movie... it was pure improvization. My favorite player back then was Shaun... I'll always wish that kid the very best.

The Clippers were the first and only basketball team to break my heart, and I'll always love them for it, so if you are a bandwagon fan, stick around for the hard times... they make times like these even better!

I just started watching Clippers last year. I followed Blake Griffin since he had so many highlights. CP3 is also a player i like. So when he came here it was kinda perfect. Lol. I couldn't decided which forum i was gonna sign up but when CP3 trade happened it make it easier for me.

I am a clippers fan since 1992....I was in high school then....was a laker fan before that but my cuzin told me that the clipper team at that time was up and coming team with danny manning and ken norman.....it is only later that I have realized that he talk me into being a clipper fan with the end view of having to "own" exclusively the lakers...since then i stood for the clips for almost 20 years......i watch my 4 cuzins enjoy the best performance of their teams.... In the late 90's my cuzin who is the owner of spurs got his first championship.... one cuzin of mine owner of the kings enjoyed a magical playoff run in the early 2000s.... then my nemesis cuzin who is the owner of the lakers got so many championship in the 2000..... I believe my time of suffering from the mockery of my cuzins is about to finish.... and my cuzin -..... owner of the lakers is about to pay for the abuse I endured for 20 years....hahahaha.......

I was actually a Laker fan before I was a Clipper fan but that happened about 10 years ago haha. I actually decided that I didn't like being a Laker fan and wanted to root for the underdog and became a Clippers fans. So strangely enough, I stopped being a Laker fan right as their Kobe-Shaq dynasty was getting started. To be specific I really stopped rooting for the Lakers after they beat the 76ers in the 2001 Finals. Technically I am an ex-Laker fan but considering I'm only 20 years, I've been a die hard Clippers fan for about half of life now.

I wish I could say I was a long time Clippers fan but unfortunately I was not per say a fan but a person who wanted to see the Clippers break the tradition of bad luck, bad decisions and losing. The fact that the Clippers shared the same city as the mighty Lakers was hard to wrap my mind around. I could not see how the Clippers could ever establish an identity always being in the shadow of the mighty Lakers. It was hard for me to see the Clippers fail season after season after season. I always wanted them to do well.

Fast forward to the current Clippers and I must say I am a bit of a bandwagon fan. Sorry about that but I just can't root against your Clippers after all the losing your organization has suffered. So with the added benefit of possibly seeing your team unseat the Lakers as the only power in LA I root for your team.

I was never a NFL Saints fan either but when the Saints became relevant and finally won a title I was thrilled. Same with the Buccaneers. I like seeing underdogs rise to the top and win.

So though I was not per say rooting specifically for the Clippers growing up I always wanted to see them succeed. I am a PROUD supporter. If that means I am a bandwagon fan than color me guilty.

Don't get me wrong, I am first and foremost a Charlotte Bobcats fan and secondly a Denver Nuggets fan. Denver is one of my two teams because I grew up in Colorado Springs, Co and Charlotte is one of my teams because when the city got the Hornets in 88 I jumped on as a "fan of an expansion team" supporter. When the Hornets left Charlotte I kept my allegiance to the city of Charlotte when the city got the Bobcats. None the less I will be on the sidelines rooting for your LA Clippers. Unless in some out of the way chance the Denver Nuggets or the Charlotte Bobcats meet them in the post season. Not likely by Charlotte. Nuggets may have a shot.

Lakers fans are really jealous and bitter right now, I've always been a fan of both since I root for all the local teams like Angels/Dodgers Kings/Ducks

The hate on the Lakersground is funny though, you can tell the Clippers being good is really getting to them.

it's so funny!!! all this talk about jewlery etc and they are upset about us having 1 really good season i the last 10 (or so years) how selfish!! they must be men (something my wife would say) LOL

I am glad some of you have enjoyed the story...... and believe me i wanted to knock his a$$ out... but i figured the "killing him with words" (as someone else posted) would be much more hurtfull...

UPDATE:::::::::: ran into him this morning (I was wearing my blake griffin t-shirt) and I was all "what's up bro? Did you watch the game?" "Yeah." he replied, "but kobe wasn't playing." so I smiled and said, "I know, that sucks they lost AGAIN!!!!!. Seems to me the lost last night without kobe was a closer game. GEEEEEE I wonder what was different." he was pissed you can tell in his eyes he wanted to make me have it but he didn't say anything after that... I got out of the elevator and as the door closed I yelled "VIVA LOS CLIPPERS" as if it was a kind of revolution... lol

P.S.

Lakers will still be a hard team to beat in a playoff series

Guys, i find this kinda funny. I was just in Lakerstopbuzz and all i did was go on and have a friendly conversation. One of the post was about Pau complaining about Griffin flopping. I was being as respectful, didnt curse, did'nt put anyone down, didn't even talk smack about the Lakers. Just saying that out of all people Pau complaining. These are the same fans i said who complaing about Griffin when Pau and D fish. Wow did ruffle some of their feathers. Man some of them was crying about getting me banned. All i did was try to have a conversation. Haha man it's too funny how some of them get really upset. It wasn't like i was tryna start anything just trying Defend Blake Griffin and our clips. Never said anything disrepectful or even dissed them. Haha but the more im in there talking with them the more i want to be an jackass cus how some of them are. It's so funny.

seriously if I were you i just leave it alone.... lets stay humble and kick their *** in the postseason! show them GRIFFIN may not be as tall as pau but still has way more MOVES/flops then he'll ever get.

I started as a Laker fan, who wasnt in LA back then..I wrote a book report on Wilt the slit in the 5th grade (1975) played basketball as a kid and had a decent sky hook ( for someone 6'3) (another Laker player I followed). But like another post said I related to the underdog way more then the perfect team.... It was 87 when I was hooked ( my name says it all) and I lost all interest in Lakers when Magic retired. Maybe because i had a high school friend die of Aids in 1985. Some of my interesting....

The funny thing is the reason people think we're bandwagon now is because Laker fans genuinely and honestly think no one could've seriously been a Clippers fan. That's all it is. Us being exciting now is the only thing that makes sense to them.

Also I have to throw my two cents in. I didn't grow up here. I have nothing on the true old school fans and I admit that. As soon as I moved to San Diego in 08 I knew I wanted to be a Clipper fan. I was in no way, shape, or form going to be a Lakers fan. I just didn't get the aura or the prestige. I never had a local team growing up in Tennessee (yeah the Grizzlies were there but I'm not from Memphis) and never really connected with an NBA team. I instantly became connected to the Clippers upon arrival into LAC fandom.

I love being/rooting for the underdog. I'm extremely passionate about my favorite teams in every sport, and the Clippers filled the NBA void I had, and it was awesome. I loved the look on people's faces around here when I told them I was a Clipper fan. It's like I'm instantly validated as a fan. I moved back to Tennessee for a bit and I would hit up local bars and ask to watch LA freaking Clippers games and by God, I'd get my way. I don't care who wants to test my loyalty, I'll play their game any time of day and love it. But above it all, I loved being a Clipper fan because I loved Clipper fans.

Now that I'm out in LA, I love the feeling on those rare occasions that I see someone in a Clipper hat/shirt/jersey because I feel like they're part of this family we have. You don't just casually wear Clipper stuff. We ignore the crap that is Laker Nation. We put up with the hard times and the seemingly never-ending quest to even prove that rooting for this team was worth our time, and now it's coming to fruition. It's just so easy to be a Lakers fan and I'm proud that I didn't want to, or even have the urge to, go that route. Clipper Nation for life, and that's a fact.

Merry Christmas to all. And to all a Clipper win.

haha I wear the '10 draft hat pretty much every day but I meant you dont 'casually' wear Clipper stuff unless you care about the team. If you see someone wearing Clipper gear, better believe they like the team.

I'm thinking about getting a shirt custom-made that has our logo on it but instead of "Los Angeles" it will say "real fan" or "actual fan" or something along those lines.
