January 4th, 2004

Clippers vs. Lakers 101-98

DOOLING BLOCK KEYS CLIPPERS WIN!

Any victory over the Clippers' neighbor is always a huge one, but this game had it all. The Clippers withstood a furious 44-pt offensive assault from Kobe Bryant and needed a huge game-saving block by Keyon Dooling to secure the win. Elton Brand led the charge for the Clippers with 30 points and 15 rebounds, while Quentin Richardson and Corey Maggette added 20 and 16 pts respectively.

Corey Maggette soared for 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Dooling came out of nowhere to block a potential tying layup by Gary Payton as the Clippers snapped a six-game losing streak against the Los Angeles Lakers with a 101-98 victory.

Elton Brand contributed a season-high 30 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks for the Clippers, who had lost 12 of their previous 13 games when hosting their co-tenants at STAPLES Center.

"This was a great win for us," Brand said. "The game was very competitive and our intensity was up. We played defense well tonight and played hard down the stretch. It's positive to play well in a tight game."

January 14th

2005 " Corey Maggette Hit the Game-Winner In Double OT vs. Heat

L.A. Clippers 114, Miami 112 (2OT)

Down 2 pts to Miami after over 57 minutes of play, the Clippers needed big plays in a big way if they hoped to pull of an upset over Shaq & the Heat. Thankfully, Corey answered the call by slicin' through the defense to tie the game with 26 seconds left, and then followed up with a dramatic fadeaway game-winner with just a few ticks left on the clock.

Yea, so do I. BTW, I forgot a significant date in Clippers history. Please, forgive me. Here it is:

January 23rd, 2002 (a day befo' SmeyeLee's birfday)

Clippers 95, Lakers 90

CLIPPS TAKE INTRA-CITY RIVAL WHILE DEY DOWN

Despite Shaq & Kobe's presence, Corey Maggette scored 18 of his then-career-high 28 pts in the 3rd qtr. He talked so much trash to Bryant he received a warning from referee Bennett Salvatore.

Lamar was injured, but the Clippers defended their home floor (literally) in front of a sellout crowd of 20,309. The front line of C-Maggs, EB & Kandi combined fa 65 pts, incl. 13 for 16 from the free-throw line, as well as 24 rebs to beat the evenutual 2001-02 NBA champions 95-90!!

It was the fifth straight home win for the Clippers, who have shared the gigantic Staples Center with the Lakers since the glistening facility opened prior to the 1999-2000 season.

During the time, it has appeared the two-time defending NBA champion Lakers have been the owners, with the Clippers just a tenant. The Clippers had lost 18 of the last 19 meetings and never had beaten the Lakers as the home team here.

The Clippers appeared headed to their 11th straight home loss to the Lakers, falling behind 49-35 at halftime.

But Corey Maggette got 'em back wit' two 3-pters & 4 medium-range jump shots, many with Bryant guarding him. After one, he let the All-Star guard have it with an obscenity.

"We were just trash-talkin' and he hit 4 threes," Bryant said. "I like my chances in him not knockin' down 4 threes, but he did."

This marked the first victory over the Lakers at STAPLES Center.

The Clipps wouldn't beat the Lakers again till Jan. 4th, '04.

February 9th 2001 " In the 2001 Slam Dunk Contest, Corey Maggette unveiled the "Super Maggette" he promised a day earier. He raced down the court, stopped at the 3-point line and did a somersault (forward flip) before gathering himself and then taking a pass from Clippers teammate Quentin Richardson to dunk:

Olden Polynice shut down Hakeem Olajuwon on the final shot to yield a 97-95 decision.

February 12th 1991 " Danny Manning hit a 12-footer in the final 20 seconds to put the Clippers up by two. On the final play, the Houston Rockets went to their best player, Hakeem Olajuwon for the final shot. Hakeem had a standard baseline fadeaway, but came up short in the face of Olden Polynice to give LA a 97-95 victory over the visiting Rockets.

On This Day in Clippers' History..

Game time! Brand came out firin' against the East, wit' jumpers & dunks from all angles.

February 19th, 2006 - Grand Brand Performance: Elton made the ClipperNation very proud 1 year ago, as he notched 12 points on 6 of 11 shooting and hauled down 7 rebounds in the 55th Annual NBA All Star Game. What's even more impressive is that Brand posted such stellar numbers in less than 17 minutes of PT. Talk about efficiency! The best move of EB's 2nd All-Star game wuz just-plain-nasty-spin-and-dunk on LeBron James in the 2nd half. Check out the Clippers.com wallpaper of that move in 1280x960 as the picture is awesome---Yao's laughin', LeBron's frustrated and Brand's bringin' back James Worthy's "Statue of Liberty" style. Congrats again EB! Hope to see you in The Big Easy in 2008!!
