IF you could own a basketball team made up of all time historical players in their prime, who would be your starting 5?

Mine would be:

C - Bill Russell

PF - Larry Bird

SF - Elgin Baylor

SG - Jerry West

PG - Oscar Robertson

nash = best shooter and passer of all time. defensive liability but has 4 guys behind him that are defensive monsters at their respective positions. havilcek, aside from being a beast on defense, was tough and laid out the hustle.

this lineup's legit.

Best passer is John Stockton IMO. Magic maybe to. Bird wasn't tough? roll Nash isn't the greatest pg ever, and Havilcek is behind a few guys as well! See your case though and respect it Very Happy

LOL!!!!!! if I could give someone rep today again I would, I'll give it tomorrow when I come on here but that's hilarious. Bulls fans love Scalabrine.

Not sure if were talking favorite Clippers player or favorite players of all time? Or are we talking which 5 guys would you plug in together for the best starting 5 of all time?

I'll do all 3.

Fav Clippers Starting 5

PG - Livingston

SG - Ron Harper

SF - Odom

PF - Griffin ( thought of putting Brand here but I hate him now )

C - Olowokandi

Fav 5 of All Time

PG - Stockton

SG - Steve Smith

SF - Bird

PF - Karl Malone

C - Moses Malone

Best starting 5 ever?

PG - Magic

SG - Jordan

SF - Bird

PF - Duncan

You don't think Lebron would own Havlicek if they went head to head? These lists are sometimes deceiving to me because I always think about how they would match-up if they were time warped to the same time. Obviuosly, the players today are much more athletic than in the past because of the technology, personal trainers, and workout regimens they put themselves through ever since MJ set the standard in the late 80's.

So by that note, I always rank by the absolute best player vs the how they fared in their own era. To me, there's absolutely no way Lebron doesn't own Havlicek if they were paired up in a real game. He would literally dunk on him every possession. And since Havlicek can't even dribble with his left hand, I'd like to see him try and score off of Lebron's D. That said, Havlicek was a great player in his time and a winner as well which Lebron has yet to prove.

SG - Kobe

SF - Devean George

PF - Karl Malone

C - Shaq

I guess it's Devean George's fault they didn't win.

The answer is Michael Jordan. Not a toss up. Not even close.

Admittedly, close is a relative term. And Kobe will always come the closest. But that's still more than a country mile away from MJ. Let's not be biased here. MJ > Kobe

PG - Isiah Thomas

SG - Michael Jordan

SF - Kevin Durant

PF - Patrick Ewing

C - Hakeem Olajuwon

I'm not sure why I included Durant but it seems like he would fit well on any team.

I agree that MJ dominated his era more definitively than Kobe, but MJ also set the standard for getting and staying in shape. He was able to dominate because he was more fit than the competition. Kobe played in an era where everyone was more athletic and following the same regimen...except for maybe Shaq. So for Kobe to stand out in his era, I would say he's taking MJ's standard and pushing it beyond....using the Kobe System. I sort of give the nod to Kobe as I think MJ would not have dominated as much if he time warped to the 2000's when everyone looks like they're juicing, but I'll give MJ the benefit of the doubt and call it a toss up.

I actually feel the reverse. MJ played in an era when getting clotheslined to the floor was merely a hard foul. If MJ played in this era, he would've been setting Wilt Chamberlain records. Meanwhile, Kobe -- for all his drive, talent and competitiveness (I won't argue against those qualities) could never win without a big man doing the heavy lifting, and Derek Fisher and Phil Jackson holding his hand. The Lakers were a disaster during the Rudy Tomjanovic/Smush Parker era. I can't lay all the blame on Kobe, but publicly quitting on his team, insisting he'd rather play for Pluto, calling out Bynum -- those are things Jordan would never have done, because he was too much of a winner. It's almost unfair to compare anyone outside of Bird and Magic to Jordan, so I'd rather spare Kobe, because he will always pale in comparison.
