New Orleans Hornets shooting guard Eric Gordon said Friday morning it was a mutual decision between him and the franchise to put off trying to get an extension agreement finalized before Wednesday’s deadline. Gordon will become a restricted free agent on July 1, and the Hornets General Manager Dell Demps said they will make a push to re-sign him.

Paul Connors/The Associated PressNew Orleans Hornets guard Eric Gordon says it was a mutual agreement to hold off on a contract e xtension.

It wasn’t that I turned down anything, it works both ways,’’ Gordon said.Yes, I’ll be restricted, but I am just a basketball player right now and the future is unclear. ``All I can do is worry about coming back at this point to try and help the team win games at the end of the year. It’s not the best situation, but it’s also not the worst. As long as I get back playing that will be the thing.’’

Sources said Gordon wanted a maximum-money, four to five-year contract. But the Hornets and NBA, who currently owns the franchise, weren’t willing to offer him a four-year, $62 million deal.

``We made good faith and amicable efforts to reach an agreement on a contract extension over the past few days," Dell Demps said in a statement released Thursday.

``Unfortunately, although close, we did not reach an agreement. Eric will be a restricted free agent this summer and we are optimistic and encouraged with the opportunity to sign Eric to a contract that will make him a member of the Hornets organization and community for years to come."

The Hornets announced Thursday that Gordon could miss up to six weeks because a right knee contusion that hasn’t healed properly.

1) Would Eric Possibly sign with the Clippers Again. Next Year? 2) Would he fit with current Clipper Squad? 3) Does Clipper Nation want him Back.

I think we need to let him know that Clipper Nation would love to have him Back.

The only thing we have to worry about is the max contract. Making it very difficult for the Clippers to sign anyone else. We would have to Max out EG, CP3 and Blake. Possibly keeping us weak in other postions. I personally would love to see EG back in a Clipper Uniform.

What do the Clip Nation think about possibly resigning SuperStud Eric Gordon!!!

He wants a max deal. He won't get it from us. If he allows himself to comedown from those worldly aspirations then maybe something could be worked out but I highly doubt it.

I believe EG definetly deserves a MAX Contract Barring an Injuries of course. He is one the Best young shooters in the NBA. I think Clipper Nation never wanted to give up EG. EG would have never been traded for the exception for a player like CP3. I just not sure about having EG to a Max Contract on this team. But, I wish we could have found someway to have traded Bledsoe instead of Eric. It would be great if we can get him back. It would definetly piss off the fakers. Could you imagine. But if it meant us getting D12 for example I would rather see Superman!!!

Love the guy but not interested. He proved again this year he is a brittle person. Always hurt, a max guy should not miss at least 20 games every year.

Ej won't come back IMHO. NOt for cost reasons,,I jsu think he wasn't happy here,,wasn't in the limelight. If he did come back he wouldn't be a happy camper with reduced minutes. I really like EJ,,but he is moving on.

Clippersam, ease up there champ. read up on his current player status (RFA), read up on our cap situation. When you're done with that, read up on what he wants in terms of millions, and ask yourself if he deserves that. But most importantly, read that article and point to me how this pertains to us? Where does it say we want him?

I've always said that EJ as good as he is, is too small for the position. EJ might just no more than a good off the bench SG so you limit his minutes to reduce risk of injury. He can probably be a good spark off the bench.

Eric gordon is still my favorite player despite him not being a clipper anymore and I wish him luck where ever he goes, but when are these "bring back our old players " threads gonna stop? there is a reason they aren't on our squad anymore.

I love ej but he clearly had a problem being second to Blake And having his agent test are front office which clearly change My view on him I'll take cp3 all day look at us and look where and What he's doing if some of you like him so much to root for Then be a fan of the team he's on and stop posting threads on Player that is not a clipper

Like others are saying, I feel he's off to Indiana by signing or by trade. I had this feeling when he was a Clipper if we couldn't come to an agreement on an extension. Financially and team-wise, the Clippers will pass.

We're not making him an offer, no way in hell. He wanted either max or close to max when he was still with us, and we've since added more salaries, there's no way we can afford to and no way EJ will take less than that, certainly not from us because he and his agent will look like idiots. I hated having to trade him for CP3 several months ago, but after learning how much he wanted and then immediately getting injured at the start of the season, I don't miss him at all.

I honestly don't even know if Indiana has the cap space to make him that kind of offer w/o losing one of their key players in Granger, West, or Hibbert. I will say that if they can find a way to get EJ, that will easily make them a legit contender in the East, though arguably not at the same level as Chicago and Miami.

He is a restricted FA and with the money that we would be able to offer him, the Hornets would be stupid to not match it. No way Gordon comes back to the Clippers, and to be honest if he can't stay healthy (hasn't been able to yet) then I don't want him here

Never say never- maybe 7 years down the road. But for now I doubt it, especially now he has a chance of sorts to pick where to play. And yeah we won't be able to afford him.

Even if we had space to sign him with the amount that he's asking, I don't think I'd want Gordon. I mean, he's injured every year and he's really not much better than Randy Foye in my opinion. I was never much of a Gordon fan to begin with as he's too short to play the SG position and he doesn't have the handles to play PG.

Plus, he was always, in my opinion, a rental here in LA as he was likely to return to Indiana or eastern conference once he was able to.

True. I love Eric Gordon and definitely wanted him to be part of the young nucleus of a great team. If I were general manger my moves would have been to keep Gordon, The Minny pick, and not have traded the 2011 pick (could you imagine Kyrie Irving with EG, BG, and DJ, and the minny pick?). But things didn't play out that way, and we have to move on. So its a big no from me. I wish him luck but we have to move on and realize some bridges are burned

He's going to end up being a Pacer, I think they have a enough money on their cap to offer him, if not I think he gives them a hometown discount. And the Pacers already have a strong team. That's a good team Collison/George Hill, EJ, Paul George, Granger, West/ Hansborough & Hibbert

I think if new orleans gives him a qualifying offer, he takes it so he'll be a UFA next summer, and he'll truly be free to sign wherever he wants ( and by wherever he wants I mean Indiana lol )

But even then, the Hornets can just match the Pacers. So the only way EJ becomes a Pacer, is if the Hornets don't match.

I don't think that's a good idea. EJ gets hurt again, then his stock goes down. If that happens, EJ is no longer in the driver's seat. The Pacers can lowball him knowing he wants to play there. The better the Pacers get, the less they need a injury prone player.

What I think is that EJ wanted max and the Hornets lowballed him. I think they want him to go out and get an offer. No one is going to give EJ the money he is seeking...He isn't worth it. He's not going to get a big contract, especially after his third straight 20+ game injury season. The guy is just injury prone. From college to the Pros. That's who he is.

well he's hurt now, so would it make a difference if he's hurt next season? I think his value is pretty low right now, but I say he takes the qualifying offer, plays his balls off and plays through any injury to raise his value

Is Joe the only person with a brain in this thread? How many times are people going to continue to post that we should make a move to sign Gordon in the off-season or try to get Kaman. 1 we have no money for either player right now, nor will we have it at year's end. Yes we may have expiring contracts but that money is going to be used for Griffin and Chris Paul's extensions ( which I pray they sign ).

Gordon is a restricted free agent. Regardless of who offers what money to Gordon the Hornets have the final say on whether they want to sign him or let him walk. My theory is he's got a 65-70% chance of the Hornets matching w/e any team throws at him. Indiana is not his only suitor that he would go play for or would offer him a contract.

Who here wants to be me 5$ that once there is an article, or it's mentioned on TV somewhere that Blake's contract is up at the end of next season people will freak out and assume he's gone after next year? Blake is also a restricted free agent, and we will match w/e anyone offers him.

If everyone knows it, why the hell do we keep seeing people post garbage like Gordon being a Clipper again? He won't be a Clipper again probably ever. In the land of fairy tales and no salary cap we could get Eric Gordon back, along with Kaman, Odom, Tyson Chandler, Brand, Q Rich, Livingston etc etc and bring back all the rest of the good former Clipper players and make ourselves the greatest team in the history of the league.

true, but might he do it to raise his value? you could make a case that he could have done that this season, but what I'm thinking is that he didn't realize how much his value had plummeted until last week when the hornets low balled him, so he might as well rest up and get his value up next season, and then freely sign with Indiana without having to worry about NO matching anything. it'll be interesting to see how it all pans out.

Gordon isn't going to take less money to make more in the long run. Gordon is proving right now how greedy he is. Gordon will get offered big bucks somewhere and either the Hornets match it or he plays for someone else for 10+ mill a year. He's going to have to remain relatively healthy for that entire contract duration in order for him to get even bigger cash.

Bet you 5$ he doesn't. Gordon will get offered a big deal from a few NBA teams. Don't be surprised if Phoenix enters the mix.

Talk about bringing back the past. If Eric Gordon did not demand so much money, we could have kept him. However, there is a slim to zero chance he ever coming back and plus he hate us for that.

id love to have him if he came for 8 mil or less. but we all know that wont happen. plus he has incentives to sign with NOLA. the two high draft picks they have and the fact he will get at least 10 mil a year from them.

i would pass on gordon as good as he is he gets hurt to much. Let another team have the headache of him missing 20 games a year.

I prefer OJ Mayo over Eric Gordon, but I'm not sure the Clippers can sign either of those guys for the amount that they want. Both are too young to play for a salary cut when there are teams out there that will give overpay for them. If we could get Mayo, sign and trade, for Mo Williams and Nick Young, I'd do it.

Clippers are counting on Mo to opt out and will amnesty Gomes. Creating plenty of cap to sign Mayo.
