Blake and CP3 aren't the only contracts that need to be extended. The Staples Center lease expires after 2013-14. Here's an old article from 8 years ago:

http://articles.latimes.com/2004/oct/29 ... sp-lease29

I wonder if Leiweke still thinks that way. Take that back, Timmy.

I REALLY hope the team moves into it's own arena! WOULD BE AMAZING! Please Sterling... if you care about any of us fans.. do it!

And if any of you OC hopefuls wish the team would move to Anaheim, forget about it. They have a practice facility in Playa Vista. That would be too far from Anaheim. If Sterling wants a new arena, it better be in LA.

Dudes it would take 5 years to build a stadium and no doubt it would be in the sticks. Staples Center is one of the best stadiums in the world for BB. Hope they stay there, I don't mind going to games on Mondays whatsoever...

^^ Agreed. What's the point in moving? Staple at night exudes Clippers' colors, not purple and yellow. Staples isn't exclusive to the Lakers.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... we should have a 7-game series with the lakers for the right to be Staples' 'first' team.

Either that, or Donald and Jerry should slap it out at mid-court. I'd pay LAKER ticket prices to watch that!

doesnt AEG own part of the Lakers? Its their building

should just build where the old sports arena is or the old Forum

Staples strength is whats built around it. IMO its a very generic building

Citizens Business Bank arena anyone? We would be able to start our own history there.

Yes we played there first on Nov 2 1999 vs Seattle, then the Lakers came home Nov 3 vs Vancouver.

AEG also owns the LA Kings and built the Ritz Carlton right across Staples Center

IMO, there's no way that AEG lets us walk away after the lease is done, we've sold out all 12 home games this season lmao

Hey, when AEG builds the new football stadium, they should have a roof that closes, then the Clippers can play there. With the way this this team is taking over LA, we will need a stadium that holds 75,000. The Lakers can play in the little Staples arena.

I think it is going to have a retracting roof

and that would be so bad ass!

I noticed that the Lakers' capacity is only 18,997 compared to the Clippers 19,200+. How is that possible?

I like the average per game stat, I was just saying let's not focus on the total number of fans quite yet haha. With that said........I love it.

STAPLES is great. besides, where else can we take over the figueroa towers which finally has some clippers painted on it to piss off the lakers and their fans?

Rebuild the sports arena. It's on Fig.

As far as Staples goes, what is it about Staples that you guys love so much? Off the top of my head I can think of 5arenas that look better

MSG

Canada Centre

Amway Center

United Center

AAA in Dallas

I'm convinced LA Live and every thing that AEG has had built around Staples is why people like Staples. But the Arena is just some huge place w/ no character.

have you been to each of those arenas? Or was your opinion based on the limited angles from a telecast?

Now if timmy of aeg gets a little greedy on the rent next lease, go ahead and have five concerts instead! i'd be all for a new sports arena or forum rebuild, and knowing sterling's....

i say we tear down the old sports arena and rebuild our own stadium and leave staples. but i know that wont happen so staples isnt so bad when all things are considered.

Why the hell would we move? And the idiot that made that statement is going to be eating his own words if we threaten to leave considering were probably going to end up better than the Lakers and were already the most watched franchise in the NBA.

It's a massive longshot but I'd LMFAO if Sterling built a brand new arena somewhere in Los Angeles and it was 10x's better tahn the Staples Center, and larger.

TV. I live in LA. I was just talking about the look of the venues. You can see that by pics. All of those places are better looking buildings than Staples. You can tell Staples was just built to hold a lot of people. THere was really no thought of giving the building any charm or character. United Center is kind of generic too, so I don't know for sure if I'd put it over Staples.

And it's disgusting how much extra stuff the Lakers get. From the lighting to the intros.

Laker fans are much fatter? Or maybe they didn't sell all the luxury boxes for the Clippers and converted the left overs to regular seating?

Have you been in there lately,,it's a real hole. Plus, that hole is UCLA's hole while Pauly is being rebuilt (trivia fact,,,I was an user thre in the early 70s for Laker games).

If the Clippers were going to build thier own arena,,it would have started already. Sterling gets a great deal from AEG so unless they as co-owners of the Lakers get miffed at us showing up thier premier team,,we are staying. Plus with the new an improved attendance,,AEG is raking in money from us and the Fakers now. In fact they are raking in so much,,for the 5 games I have gone to so far parking has been cheaper then any other year for at leas tthe last 7 years since the Clips moved in.

Haven't been there since in yrs. Never liked it anyways. But I was just talking about the site. Tear it down and build something beautiful in it's place. I doubt Sterling will do it. I'm sure him and AEG will work something out. I would bet he loves that the team plays in the heart of LA. Would be cool to build some palace in West LA or something.

The Lakers just have a way more professional setup for their games. Their intros are incredible. The CLips still use that corny rise up crap w/ what sounds like house music. They really need to fire that DJ and make some cool short intro movie for the team like Miami and Chicago does.

I pass by Exposition Park (Sports Arena/Coliseum area) almost every day coming to and from work (I work just south of the Convention Center/Staples/LA Live area), and that place is an eyesore...it's even uglier on the outside after they re-painted the roof a few years ago. I haven't been inside the Sports Arena since the Clippers last played there, and that was almost 13 years ago. One thing (and maybe the ONLY thing) I liked the Sports Arena was the slightlines were better than Staples, or even the Forum.

The entire Exposition Park complex is owned by the state of California, and along with the state, the city and county of Los Angeles, they also own the Coliseum and Sports Arena. The ultimate decision will be left to them...I know there's the plan of selling of the Coliseum to USC back when the Governator was in office, and I think they're still finalizing a deal to at least turn over control of the stadium to USC. I also remember that there was a related plan where they would tear down the Sports Arena, and build a soccer stadium in its place.

I've stated numerous times here that if and when the Clippers ever decided to leave Staples, I would prefer the Forum site, mainly due to its proximity to Playa Vista and even LAX. I just don't think Sterling would put up a sizable amount of his fortune to fund an rebuilt/renovation to the not-so-Fabolus Forum, and there's sure as hell won't be any public money coming from Inglewood or any other government entity to get it done. And unless Anaheim gives Sterling and the Clippers an offer they couldn't refuse, I think we'll see the Red, White, and Blue at 11th and Figueroa beyond 2014.

BTW,,the reason I know the Sports Arena is a dump is for our USC football games , Miller beer rents a space so we go inside to drink our beers and use thier toilets. Seriously, the place is horrible. This is why USC will eventually get control of the Coliseum, the state cannot get out of thier oen way to refurbish or repair everything and of course the state is broke,,here at USC we have the best athletes money can buy,,,wait,,,forget that response,,,,we have a ton of money and can fix that dump but don't need the Sports Arena, we have the Galen Center. HEY,,the CLips could play at the Galen center!

As bad as the Sports Arena site is, why would you prefer the Forum? Inglewood is one of the most crime-infested cities in the LA County. Stay away from Inglewood. At least with Sports Arena, the area is still relatively safe because USC is there. My wish is for the Sports Arena to be completely rebuilt.

I know I'm pissing most off when i say it but the Clips at Honda Center would be beyond awesome in so many ways but I'm just being greedy and wanting the team to play in my back yard. It would never happen anyway because the Royals are coming from Sactown soon. I do think that Sterling is intrigued by the leverage that he's created for himself with this gold nugget team that he's assembled and he should consider alternatives if he doesn't feel he's getting paid in the renewal talks. SHOW ME THE MONEEEEEEEEY!!

DTS went to Roosevelt High School and wants the team to stay in Los Angeles. He's from here and his major business holdings are also here. He won't move while he's alive.
