i for one get somewhat depressed at playoff time in the nba because of the lopsided favoritism given to the top four teams in each conference. if stern and the nba front office really wanted to get more fans involved in the playoffs, he and the league should take my idea to heart and run with it. it goes like this;

instead of #1 paired with # 8, it would be much more competitive to have #1 play #5, get it? then #2 plays #6, #3 plays #7, and #4 plays #8. now, of course all the bias fans and team fo of the first four would hate this change because THEY WOULD HAVE TO EARN THEIR SECOND ROUND SPOT, rather than just blow out the lowly last four teams. now i know some of you out there will point out how a #8 seed beats a #1 OCCASIONALLY, like memphis did lat year, but be honest here, it doesn't happen that often! this would also have a big effect on the "tanking" syndrome that teams use at the end of the season to "position" themselves for a better playoff seed. so am i right or not? tell me why you don't like this scenerio, not just a simple "no". hell, mlb just added two more wildcard spots for the playoffs, the least the nba office can do is give the fans their team playoff hopes just that, HOPE, with my kind of schedule. and i am talking about REGULAR seasons, not this one.

The 'tanking' would become worse for teams 5-8. Why would you want to finish 5th and play the team with the best record when you can drop to 8th and play the 4th best team?

I'd definitely entertain some kind of shakeup where the best teams actually qualify. It's frustrating to see Western teams with 46-50 wins on the outside while Eastern teams with losing records make the post-season.
