The Clipper Darryl video got me to wondering, what made you a fan of one of the worst teams in NBA history? His reasoning was pretty much the same as mine. When I first started watching baketball, it was Lakers. All my friends were Laker fans, we would always watch Laker games together, so more or less I felt "obligated" to be true to the Lakers. But at the same time, on my own, I would watch Clipper games. I'd try to chop it up with my friends about the games, but obviously no one wanted to hear it. I think I gravitated to the Clippers because they were the "other" LA team that no one cared about. It felt good to root for the underdog, no matter how much they lost. And once I became a true to heart fan, there was no going back. This is MY TEAM. lol, now I never get invited to watch Laker games because I'm rooting for whatever team they're playing against. I get so much crap from everyone about it, but win or lose, Clippers are my team.

so what's your reasoning? Rooting for the underdog? trying to be different? Hopping on bandwagons? (I know no one will admit this)

Bring it!

I was primarily a Laker fan before but I always liked the Clippers because they were an LA team and I absolutely LOVE my city but, During the 02-03 season, during a game between the Clippers and Rockets, Andre Miller got fouled and sent to the line in the final seconds of a close game. The Clippers were down 2 and Andre Miller had a chance to tie. Andre Made the first, then he made the second, but the the referee called a lane violation on Andre Miller saying that he stepped over the line before the ball went in. There was no instant replay for refs back then so the call stuck and the Clippers lost that game. When i saw that call, I figured, the refs called that call intentionally because they wanted the rockets to win since they were headed to the playoffs, and knew that no one would care if they screwed over the Clippers. I thought to myself "These guys need help" and from that point on I began supporting the Clippers and following every game on TV or the Radio. It had been a tough ride through middle school and high school being the only Clipper fan in the entire school but I'm proud to say I'm a Clipper fan and always will be as long as they're in LA.

I look good in Red, White and Blue

I was a Laker fan but after I went to my first CLipper game in 1989 I realized I had so much more fun at Clipper games then Laker games so I started rooting for both teams and although I considered myself a Laker fan (but went to Clipper games because I couldn't afford Laker games,,even way back then) and I discovered when I watched them both I rooted for the CLips to take the Lakers down a notch because they were starting to get too arrogant for my taste. So around 93 I swore off the Color Purple for good and swtiched to being a CLipper bandwagon fan but forgot to jump off the wagon. I just like underdogs and scrappy teams and for the most part,,save for the Baron years,,this has always been a scrappy team,,,,albiet not a good one a lot of the times.

^^^word, I was the same way. When I'd go over to friends house to watch Clippers vs. Lakers games, even when I still was supporting the Lakers, I'd let it be known to everyone watchign that I'd be rooting for The clippers. lol, of course no one liked that. They couldn't understand why I'd be going for such a bad team. Like I said in my first post, it's like you're obligated to root for the Lakers just cause you're from Southern Cali. I don't think so brosuf, not in my world. I think what really made me a diehard Clipper fan, when I finally just said to hell with the Lakers, was when everyone and they momma started talkin crap to me for being a clipper fan, going on and on and on how the Lakers were better, ALWAYS bringing up how many championships they've won. It got old, I got annoyed with Laker fan arrogance, and picked a side. And tonight, I hope TWolves smash on Lakers, make them go 0-3 on this road trip, and give me something else to laugh at the Lakers about.

Personally when I was a kid I loved the colors and I always was a fan of cheering for the underdog, mainly the massive underdogs. Playing video games growing up I'd turn the Clippers, Mavericks, Nets etc into awesome teams, Bengals yada yada yada. I figured crappy teams I could pick up any player I wanted, start them and get a high draft pick to build a foundation around. I was also a fan of Ron Harper, Danny Manning, Kandi Man, Odom, Q Rich, Miles, Brand, Kaman, Livingston etc as the years went on.

And deep down I just knew they were my team, I just could never fight the feeling that I love the Clippers. I do have favorite players throughout the years on different teams, and people may cringe but I always loved Magic Johnson when I was a kid.

By random chance. I was playing NBA Inside Drive 2002 where my brothers wanted to start an association. I chose randomly and thankfully selected the Clips. Loved them ever since.

My first basketball game that I went to was a Clippers game vs the Warriors at the Sports Arena in 92-93. I was 12 years old. I only had a favorite player at the time which was Tim Hardaway (hence vs the Warriors), but never had a favorite team. Me and my dad started going to more games and then I decided to make the Clippers my favorite team. All of my family are Lakers fans and I gave my little cousin Clippers gear every year on his b-day to piss off my Uncle and so he won't be brainwashed either, haha.

I arrived in LA in early 2009 and had a simple choice - Clippers or Lakers. Coming from the UK, I cannot STAND teams who win everything and the arrogance it breeds in their fans (and the kinds of fan those teams attract) so it was a simple choice.

Also, there would be no point in supporting the Lakers as they've already won the whole thing many times. Another Championship for them wouldn't be a really big deal to their fans. Not when you compare to how much a Championship would mean to Clipper fans.

It also means I can now say "I was there when we were ****." Smile

i became a fan after i realized that the amount of squeaks the players on a clippers squad make because of their shoes is less irratating than other teams.. stuck by it since.....

Funny we all pretty much have the same story.... With me the all difference I took my whole in-laws to a game.. 8 seats 200 section under $100 for all seats how could we say no.... we were on the jumbo tron like 3 times (acting like dumbasses of course) but even though the clippers were a "losing" team you can feel the energy and the support the fans were giving them (btw they did lose that game by 2) @ lakers games you feel people are there for 2 reasons (1)get drunk and watch their gang members win, I mean the lakers win. (2)they have a boat load a $$$ and feel they have to be a bandwagoner and support the lakers like every other person in LA.

For me it's mostly the support and love the FANS have for them team... so if you're a true FAN a TRUE supporter of the clippers....

TAHNK YOU!!

LAst night I almost went into the Laker Ganstat mode,,which is hard for a 60 year old white man,,,,but at the game I hear two chuckleheads,,one in a Kobe jersey (I was in the premier level) ,,walking to the bathrom and one of the says (this is when we were behind by like 20),,"man,,it's good to see Golden State whip the LA Fa*s.". Both dudes were in their late 20s and I just told them both the eff off,,fortuanetly (for me!) they just walked away. I guess being old has perks. They probably went to the toilet laughing about the crazy old man.

I need to stop sniffing glue before games.

Yeah, Laker fans at Clipper games are annoying. I went to the Clipper/Nuggets game in Feburary, the one were we lost by 20-something points. Leaving Staples a bunch of losers in Laker jerseys just mouthing off. Its like, why come to a Clipper game if you don't even like the Clippers? Someone actually asked them this after getting tired of hearing them jawjacking, and their response "we can't afford Laker tickets". Well, aren't you quit the loser. Not only are you at a game of a team you don't like, but you can't even afford tickets to a game of the team you really support. Whomp whomp.

those are the types of flaker fans i enjoy beating up when i have had to. ive gotten more calm as i have aged since im 25 now and not 17 anymore. however it takes a lot for me to hold back from beating them down when they disrespect the clips. but fightonron, props to you for telling them to F*** off. how dare they call us F**s when they have kobrick and gasoft almost kissing passionately whenever they make a good play. hahaha. maybe those 2 flaker fans are into that. lol

Same here, being an avid laker fan became an ordinary thing, they've won so many times, 1 NBL title, 16 NBA titles, countless WCF and division titles.. but being a first time clipper fan, is a thing of beauty it's good to be root for the underdogs...

I am naturally a Los Angeles fan living in Los angeles. In 1987 I started watching the NBA finals Lakers vs Boston. I was a huge magic Johnson fan. I also like watching Danny Manning being selected #1 pick from Kansas. I started coaching little league when I was 12 back in 1987. I took a underdog team and we won the city championship. I was 12 with 8-9 year old team. I fell in love with coaching and rooting for the underdogs. I always had a dream as a kid of coaching the Clippers and winning there first NBA title as there head coach. I always saw talent on the team and a lack of a great coach that could lead them strong into the playoffs. For the exception of Larry Brown. The Clippers have had horrible coaches. I really was also a huge shaq fan and I like the Kobe-Shaq days. Kobe made me hate the Lakers completely for getting rid of Shaq. So since 1988 I have been rooting for the underdogs. Since I always felt that I would rather take a underdog team and take them to a title. So the Clippers have always been my #1 team. The Lakers have always been a close 2nd. Except when shaq left because of Kobe. So the current lakers Arnt even on my watch list thanks to Kobe. Until Kobe is gone than maybe the Lakers will return to my 2nd favorite team. Clippers have been my team since 1988 and will remain as long as they are in Los Angeles. I have just one wish please fire VDN. Then I would completely be the happiest fan. Vinny is causing me to despise this current Clipper Squad. But I am a Clipper 4 life. Go Clippers!
