Low risk, high reward player. If he can stay healthy, he can come off the bench and come in to contain guys like Bynum and Dwight. Remember, Bynum was injury prone as heck before this season. Still keep KMart and Reggie for injury insurance.

No chance. He'll either retire or play with his son in South Beach. Haha

LOL this is a funny thread and I agree with you 100%. In NBA 2k12, I traded for Oden in my association. When Blake needs a breather and DJ and Oden are on the floor together, they are like twin towers. Clips should definitely take a chance on him.

Imagine with all that "clippers curse"

& they sign oden & becomes healthy lol

Oden & jordan or oden & k-mart or oden & griffin

On the floor ! Would be AMAZING

I'd be down if he's cheap enough. Poor guy's luck has to change sooner or later.

^^^ I'd like to say you're right, but I'm not sure luck has anything to do with it. I think Oden's bones might actually be made of glass. Still, I'd sign him for the vet minimum or something.

i think he had another microfracture surgery. but if hes healthy enough and cheap, why not take a gamble on him. its not like we expect him to be a franchise center like portland was.

I've mentioned this multiple times on various Clipper boards and I've been shunned, yet someone on here says something and it's a good idea. fact is, the kid has enormous talent and that talent will be there to grow until he's friggin 30. Problem is, 1 leg is bigger than the other and he's highly injury prone because of that, and other reasons to boot.

Oden could be a cheap, low risk, high reward player and I think would be able to TEACH DJ a thing or two about offense and defense. Oden may be a massive bust as a former #1 pick, but he's got a real chance of being a role player and a teacher to others. If healthy he easily could have put up 12-15 PPG, 9-12 RBD and 1.8-3.2 BLKS a game while shooting maybe 60% or better from the line for his career. His skills were far surpassed the majority of all NBA Centers going into the NBA draft and he's a smart guy, christ he's damn near 55 years old with a great grandchild on the way. A vets MIN wouldn't be a bad risk in the off-season.

I would sign him next year a cheap deal. We need a backup center really bad.

Think he is out for the year. But in the off-season I am not 100% confident we keep Kenyon Martin and Reggie Evans. They may have run their course for us, but I am not 100% on what mangement wants. Oden could potentially be gotten for a cheap price. If he's healthy, which I fully believe he will be this off-season he should be on the "watch list" of many NBA teams. Phoenix immediately comes to mind as a suitor.

Oh. If you're talking for next year, why not get someone who can actually play the full season or evena a game. Omer Asik is gonna be a free agent. Having him off the bench would be perfect.

No no no no no no no! First of all the guy has one leg that's an inch and a half shorter than the other. Second of all he spends more time in the club than in rehab. Third of all over the 5 seasons that's he's been in the league he's totalled 82 games, also known as 1 season! The guy is NEVER going to play again! He admitted that His true dream is to be a dentist but his hands are too big to fit in people's mouths.. He doesn't care about basketball and that's why he will never ever play. If he signs with another team it will be just to get another paycheck to take his boys to the club with. Mr. Glass is right!!!

Well, if we are into signing broken Centers, we might as well try to sign 7'6" Yao Ming. His wheels have come off as well, but as a back up center?????

OK, eveybody chant together now.....where are you Clipper Darryl....Yao Ming Yao Ming Yao Ming!!!!!!

That money could be better spent elsewhere.

Why not bring in Sofoklis aka Greek Shaq to back up DJ (we own his rights still:same year we drafted C Kaman)

I used to be a big fan of SOFO, but not anymore. And we don't need another short Center. SOFO is shorter than he is listed, and all the weight makes his look even shorter. We need a tall guy with length.

It's cool to hear of another Clipper fan that knows about him.The summer league is a horrible league to evaluate a big mans game(everyone ballhogs)

He would be a good roll player there aren't enough of those Lengthy players available anyways this summer.Plus I watched him play in the Euro league yesterday and he can still dominate in spurts during games which would be perfect for our bench(the euro league is a lot better then people think examples; ,Varejao,B.Jennings,R.Rubio,Pekovic have all strugled at times there)

Plus we now have CP3 so all he would need to do is get in Good deep position down low.How have the Clips not at least tried him yet.(that's probably because european teams always snatch him up quick)

^^^^^^(make sure U press the mute button)

Oh yeah and he could shove Bynum into the stands like he did to Shaq a year ago(at 1:01 on this you tube video) Very Happy

you will need to ask Andy Roeser that question. you can't ask Olshey that question. he's no longer with the team when the season is over with. i wouldn't mine him tho. but i think he said in a past interviews that he doesn't want to be with LAC. he want to stay where he is. i guess he's homesick. maybe he has a different attitude now.

Every team forum has a fan making a similar thread as this one. I don't think getting Oden will be as cheap as some people make it out to be.

Which is why we probably won't even give him a thought. If nobody offers him a deal or he takes a very small salary to play, I think most teams would give him a shot. As it's been stated 1 of his legs is bigger than the other but he's still talented.

If he can remain healthy 65+ games a year he's a good player to have on your team. I am willing to make the assumption someone will offer him up a 1 year deal in the 1-4 mill a year range pending he's healthy and ready to go on opening night. If not, he may have to find work overseas or head to the D-League.

Oden would more than likely be a roster filler for almost every single team he would play for, so chill out. No team is going to sign Oden and expect him to play 35 or even 20 MPG. They'd probably do what Phoenix has been doing with Michael Redd and what the Pistons did with T-Mac. Small minutes to see how he performs and if his body can take more he'll have to earn it by actually playing well and not based on talent level, or past accomplishments.

Where did you hear that nonscense that he wont be here next year he built this whole team up and they haven't done anything yet.I know his contract is up and we have Donald Sterling but I think he'll wanna stick around at least for next year

Knowing our history with players and injuries I say NO. I rather we keep Reggie for a couple more seasons, I like him THAT MUCH. He obviously does not do much offensively, but what he brings to the team (toughness, hussle, energy, rebounding) is something taht we have been lacking for so many years that we need to keep him around

Amnesty_David_Stern

Nobody is saying let's go get him and nobody here has any information at all on whether or not our team actually is going to look at him as a potential roster filler this off-season. Oden is a low-risk high-reward player given the fact he may be had for peanuts.

Why the hell do people freak out when anyone suggests we sign anyone in general? We have to fill the roster and were not going to have a team loaded with all-stars and top notch specialists. The NBA unlike MLB has a cap and we can't spend 200 mill to bring in all A list players. Every single championship team ever has had really crappy players on it, every team ever has had really crappy players on it. This happens and it's because they need another body to fill the roster.

People here are acting like Laker fans more and more each day.

If you can get him for nothing can't hurt, don't forget he is was the no. 1 pick, just needs to get healthy and make it to the floor

I'd do it. Unfortunately for him, he has joined the ranks of DJ Mbenga, the Collins brothers, Hasheem Thabeet, etc. Backup centers that no one cares about anymore. Only difference is Oden had the ability to be a BEAST quite frankly. Yeah those days are over but which backup center/roster-filling 7 footer could we say the same about? MAYBE Thabeet but he isn't on the same level because he hasn't had debilitating injuries like Oden. It's terribly unfortunate that he has had so many injuries and can't stay on the court but if the risk is low, I say go for it. If you're willing to take that minimal hit if he doesn't pan out, there's no reason to not take a shot. Every team has to have a backup center. If you take him and he gets hurt, just go sign another cheapie. No big deal. Go for it.

I agree. I say go for it. If the Knicks paid Jeremy Lin a pro-rated amount of $750,000 this year, then we can pay Oden one million/year to back up DJ. Low risk, high reward for a back up C that can board and rebound. It would be the feel good story of the decade except when we play Portland.
