To Tom Benson ( I think is his name ) who is the owner of the Saints football team.

I guarantee even without successs the Hornets franchise doubles in the next 10 years in terms of value and 100's of people around the world with the money to have bought them recently all want to kill themselves.

$338 million? Pffft. The Dodgers costing $2.1 billion is still shocks me.

More importantly, this officially eliminates any idea of Seattle finally getting an NBA team back.

Not quite...today's other big NBA news is that the Kings' arena deal, which was reportedly a done deal around All-Star weekend, now isn't because the Maloofs are now backing out due the "economics aren't right". One of the brothers suggested they may renovate the current arena, but it seems like they'll be pressured into selling the team or they'll keep the team and leave Sacramento.

Stay tuned...

^ Isn't Anaheim supposed to be their backup plan?

That's pretty stupid. Arco Arena or whatever the name is now was not built to expand. Renovating it would be like putting lipstick on a pig.

Hornets had or have a deal in place to keep the team in New Orleans until 2024 prior to this sale, meaning they wouldn't get moved. Probably a massive reason why Benson bought the Hornets. I'd prefer to own 2 pro sports teams that are right next to each other or CLOSE to each other rather than having 1 franchise in 1 state and the other in a different state.

Kings need to move back to Kansas City IMO.

With the NFL's cross-ownership rules, that would have been the only way for Benson to buy the Hornets, and still keep the Saints. In other words, if you own a NFL team, you can't own (or be a majority owner) another team in another sport in a different market.

Just like a year or two ago, Stan Kroenke bought the remaining shares of the Rams he didn't own (he had been a minority owner since they've been in St. Louis) from the children of the late Georgia Frontiere, and with that, he "sold" his Denver-based teams (Nuggets, Avalanche, the MLS Rapids) to his son.

Kroenke also owns Arsenal FC. He was also a finalist in the Dodger bidding war. Talk about a sports whore.
