firstly.. do you remember the match clippers hosted magic in december (i guess) in which turkishs who lives in LA cheered for hedo and presented some local plays. etc..? right two weeks after that match LA Clippers' scouts came to watch Omer Asık of FB Ulker in İstanbul and it is whispred they liked him and prepared a good report.. anyway Omer Asık is already expected to be drafted in second round but by whom? i guess Clippers will do it and that is why i registered to this site(?)..i am a big fan of him as he belongs to my generation (bon in 1986).
and some information about him:
he is a late beginner of basketball. he was 17!when his father grabbed his hand and brought him to FB Ulker's youth team.. two years with yout team he has done nothing and looked like unskilled. but FB coaches insisted on him and he worked hard too. after that two years he is loaned some second divisions team and he got expreinced. last season he has benn sent Alpella (FB Ulker's pilot team in turkey).. and he became the best rebounder in turkish league but he still wasn't productive enough. at the beginning of this season he has been sent Alpella again due to the oversupplied frontcourt of FB Ulker. he did his job wonderful during Alpella periods he was the the king of rebound plus blocks. he was called back to FB Ulker squads after injury of Semih Erden (another prospect of turkey who is ecpected to be drafted too look nbadraft.net, draftexpress.com,europeanprospect.com). by then he started to play in international area (euroleague) he easily acommadated and made his contribution to the team.. additionally he break the top 16's block record (19 blocks in 6 match in 20 minutes average you can look his stats here
http://www.euroleague.net/competition/p ... de=000709. Omer is already one of the best defenders in europe and his offensive aspect is developing amazingly. weaknesses of him are
low percentage of FT's. he is not athletic enough.
his key word is constansy.. and dont forget that he begunbasketball 5 years ago and he goes on developing.. maybe he is not a big star right now but he will be soon..
this is all my prediction of course... |

Very interesting Gockun and welcome to the board. Your link doesn't work.
If you have anything else on this guy I am interested to see what Omer can do. If this guy is a great defensive player I am sure Dunleavy is interested. |

| Yeah thanks gockun- he may be that big man we need to add to our front court depth. I fixed the link but looks like the site is down for maintenance right now. |

| http://www.euroleague.net/competition/p ... ode=000709 This gets you Omar's current stats. He and the team are also in Wikipedia (believe it or not) which if where I got the link. Or just Google him. Huge shot blocking numbers for that one stretch... kind of indifferent points and maybe fewer boards than you might expect for someone his size. But, if he's only played for 5 years then there's potential. For one of the records at least, NBAdraft.net has Minnesota taking him before us (at least as things stand now) at the number 33 pick. |

| OK, after watching the tape, first thing, the level of competition in his league is not much. Having said that, he runs the floor well for a Big. He doesn't have slow heavy feet like Fazekas. So, he has a quick first step for a Big. That allows him to move quickly on defense to get into postion for all of the blocks that he gets. Its hard to tell how much of an offensive weapon he would become from what we have. But, picking him in the second round, we have nothing to lose. And we do need a solid backup center who is good enough to start. Kaman seems to be getting hurt a lot the last couple of years. Does he have any contract buy out problems? |

Welcome to my European mate first of all!
I have only watched him one time when Fenerbahce (where play former Memphis players Will Solomon and Tarence Kinsey) was destroyed at home versus Montepaschi and I'm sorry but he didn't impress me a lot. He's tall, a great shot blocker (yes, he broke this nice shot blocking record)... but offensively he's so green and he still must improve a lot to become a dominant guy in Europe...I don't remember him when Fenerbahce came to Barcelona either. Maybe he can have a lot of room to improve but it's obvious that he wouldn't be next year with the Clips. He should spend 1-2 more seasons in Europe and see if he really improves...
At least I prefer him over Semih Erden who, if I must be honest, I think is directly a mediocre basketball player... |

thank you miguel (and clipper*joe ofcourse) for your politeness (wellcoming me here and it is good to see some other european who is interested in NBA)
for the beginning,
he was not in our team when fb visited barcelona he was with Alpella..
in that gema which is in İtalia, coach tanjevic didnt let him to play enough he just played for 10 minutes. on the other hand we cant obtain a general impression from just one match.. look at his average and dont forget he started to play this game 5 years ago, by the summer when he finished the high school.
and i dint said he is wonderful when it comes to offence there is a long way to walk for him. but i can easily say he will be much better next years because he likes working. and as it easily seen, he is improving himself day by day. at the beginnig of this year many of turkish doesnt know him includes some FB ulkers funs like me. but now he is know in all europe i guess.
moreover i didnt also say "he will come clippers next year " i said there is a possibility that clips may draft him. (he is expected to be drafted this year anyway) and he has a contract with FB Ulker till the end of 2010.
he is not actually better then Semih but Semih has some problems in his head he doesnt trust himself enough and not aware of his abilities according to some coaches and scouts here.
PS: we can easily see the difference between his first matches and the laters ones at Fenerbahce in euroleague.
the first one his regular season averages next one Top 16 averages (and top 16 is harder than regular season)
min. pts 2 FG 3FG FT rb as st to blc
Average 18:53 7.4 62.5% 0% 48% 5.6 0.6 0.9 1.4 1.4
Average 20:00 8.2 54.8% 0% 57.6% 6.3 0.2 0.8 1.7 3.2 |
