| Portland will end up like the Bulls.... having many draft picks turn to be really good players.... when it comes the time to re sign them all.... they won't be able to... well at least I doubt Portland will be able to hang on to Everyone.... well at least not with Maggette on their team.... Cap Space won't allow that... Portland can stick with Rudy/Roy/Outlaw as a SG/SF and that would be a lot cheaper than taking in Maggette.... so that can all pose problems with this deal |

Errrrr- I sure hope not. First of all Rudy has to get out of his current contract, and it sounds like he wants to stay in Europe for a while. Secondly we're talking about Corey Maggette here. Maybe if they want to swap Corey for Brandon Roy straight up that'd be more reasonable. |

Next year you have Rudy in the USA. No doubt. He was doubtful because McMillan doesn't play Sergio Rodriguez and sometimes it seems there are NBA coaches who think the European players must show more than the American ones for getting the same opportunities, specially with the rookies. But Rudy is so good that he won't have problems...
On the other hand it would be a high risk operation to trade Rudy rights+Jack for Gette. Despite all my positive comments, Rudy hasn't played any NBA game so he's totally unproven playing with the strongest players in the world.Who knows if he could translate his amazing game overseas??Nobody. So...Gette is a totally proven NBA scorer, who has showed he can score more than 20 points in a loser team. Is Gette capable to score these points in a winner team??Surely not.
I understand russdaddy's opinion since Gette could make a sign and trade only if we offer him to go to an interesting team. it means: no grizz,no wolves, no sonics (no lottery teams)...but the blazers could be OK for him. So before we could lose Gette for nothing it would be better to get this package of players.
Yesterday's game was the first game for Rudy in the Final 8 of a competition called UlebCup. Yesterday he wasn't dominant scoring but showed great passing skills and his leadership...Next game will be on Saturday.I'll give you more info tomorrow |

Clippers 2008-2009 line up:
Kaman
EB
Thornton
Mobley
Ross
Livingston
Knight
Bright Future:
Paul Davis
Nick Fazekas
Trade/Release:
Thomas
Maggette
Smush Parker
Needs:
Back-Up PG
Back-Up SG
Back-up PF/C
I say the Clippers are set for this coming offseason. There are a few areas they need to take care of...IE "Cleaning House". The Clippers are well placed this draft year, all they need to do now is to choose wisely the same way they did with Al Thornton. There are more scorers in this draft than any other that I know of...expect the Clippers to pick either Eric Gordon or Derrick Rose. The Heat will probably pick a Big in the draft...Michael Beasley is the logical choice. I dont think the heat will pick another scorer i the PG/SG position because they already have Wade & Marion (if he stays in MIA). DJ Augustine is an intriguing choice for the Clips.
Hopefully we get someone that will have an immediate impact with the team.
GO CLIPPERS! |

I agree Clips84 ... mostly. Thomas will not be dealt. Given his performance lately we'd all like to see it happen, but he's not an asset anyone would trade for right now. So we're stuck with him. $6M is not the worst contract in the NBA, so they'll swallow it for another year. The following year I think they'll trade him midseason due to his contract expiring summer of 2010. So he will probably be a Clipper for another 1.5 seasons.
Also, other than Beasley and Rose, I don't think the draftees are immediate impact guys. Contributors, yes. So we'll get a VERY good player who will nicely compliment the roster you've described, but not a guy who will turn the team around. |

Oh okay I guess he changed his mind! I'm looking forward to seeing him play- looks like it'll be in a Portland Trailblazer uniform. Man they are going to be something with Greg Oden healthy and now Rudy coming over. |

| We are now tied with the Knicks for 5th at 23 and 56. We are also just one game back in the loss column to Memphis, with their next two games are vs. the Heat & the Wolves, so you never know! |

| I want a big point guard that can move. I'm tired of our guy(s) being bullied by the Kidds, Billups, DWilliams et al of the league. Someone 6'2" or more. Obviously Rose would be perfect, but unless we're better with ping pong balls than Forrest Gump, or there's some monster trade in the making, he's a pipe dream. But... Bayless and Westbrook are both very real possibilities if we draft around our predicted #5 or so. Both fit the bill physically, Westbrook had a great tournament, and nobody blamed Bayless for Arizona's early departure. Rose has everyone's head turned around... either one of those other two would start for us by mid-season and for a long time after. Brevin and Dan can both be effective players, but starters? No. If Shaun doesn't return to full strength, or maybe even if he does, my vote for who to pick would be a point, even if we miss out on the flower of the draft. |

I think that neither Westbrook nor Bayless are true PG. They are the typical combo guards, which can be useful for us but not for starting from the PG position...
Memphis has won another game. Now they are just one away from us...
P.D:Our old friend Korolev is playing this final 8 competition I told you in a past comment. He's on the Dynamo Moscow roster but yesterday his team won but he didn't play any minute.Poor guy |

| I am not sold on OJ Mayo, I have read/heard alot about him being overhyped. Alot of people question his lack of quickness and see him more of a solid role player/ 6th man in the NBA. That being said, I do not know who we should go after. After the top 2 picks (Beasley and Rose) it looks like a somewhat weak draft. |

| Yeah I agree- OJ seems like a solid player but he doesn't seem to have any attribute that really gets your attention. I wouldn't mind the Clippers drafting him, however, if they can't get the top 2 guys. |

| If Shaun comes back healthy were stuck with 2 pgs. I would rather sign a free agent for a two year deal. But if you draft rose you have a 2 guys in the back court with suspect jump shots. And Thornton did benefit by staying in college 4 years. I would rather draft a shooter maybe bayless or budinger. Even though I am a trojan Mayo needs to stay in school one more year. And for him to develop in the nba its going to take him a couple of years. He is scoring 20 points a game but on 20 shots. Pg is the hardest position to learn in the nba so rose may lag he might not have the great start cp3 and williams have. So i am sticking with a shooter that can give us 20 min and threes when we need them |

I agree with Clipshow's strategy.
I would add:
1) But who would sign for only 2 years? Not the best PGs available. Might have to go more years.
2) If Shaun turns out good, then you haven't made such a huge "mistake"; you have an extra solid PG. Trade the guy you drafted or signed. Somebody will drooling over our 2nd PG (like Ford and Calderon in Toronto). So it's not a bad problem to have. |

It's obvious that either Calderon or Ford won't be in Canada next year... |

We already have a one two punch in Elton Brand & the emerging soon to be All-Star Al Thornton...I cant just wait to see if the Clippers end up with Rose b/c that would be a one two and an uppercut combo! Man. Please Clippers be wise this Draft!

I don't think it's a matter of being "wise" rather than lucky. But yeah it'd be awesome to get Rose or Beasley. |
