My gooooodness, how in the world are we going to stop Gay!

Its a lot like the Melo situation we had tonight.

This matchup is the 1 to watch for.....its not sexy like Griffin vs Zack but by far the most important matchup

If they beat us on the perimeter, more power to them. And Rudy Gay is not in the same stratosphere as Carmelo. Last year I would have said Carmelo is the best scorer in the league, and he's still among the greats right now. Rudy Gay is a poor man's Carmelo as far as offense goes.

I'm just trying to be optimistic though, in truth we are gonna have to battle like crazy to pull this one off.

it has everything to do with it Gay's slashing....butler has no chance on an athletic 3s that drives....will Gay finish? lets hope not but it opens EVERYTHING up

Memphis feeds on mismatches..

Caron hasn't exactly been lighting it up, so I don't think VDN would hesitate to put others in to guard the 3 spot. Nick Young could do that. I'm not worried about the Grizzlies offense, it's their defense. But if it comes down to a close game, we have the advantage. Memphis does not have a closer.

Gay is not close to Melo's scoring ability, Gay's much streakier and Melo has been having an incredible month. Bottomline is we don't HAVE to throw double teams at Gay unless he's red hot. Beating Caron with dribble penetration not too big a deal because of DJ anchoring the paint, just need the rest of the team to box out and rebound.

We have enough defensive bodies we can throw at their primary scorers.

Rudy Gay is not an Elite Player. He's paid like one, but isn't. I'm more worried about Gasol turning into an animal, and Zach returning to form.

A Gasol and Randolph combo can be more lethal than a Gasol and Gay combo.

Rudy would be third on my list.

Allen's defense could factor in this series more than Rudy.

^ Yeah, and Z-Bo draws a lot of fouls on his putbacks. I expect to see plenty of K-Mart in this series.

I hope to see a lot of him because I think both Gasol and Z-Bo will pretty much have their way with DJ. We're going to need K-Mart to play some big minutes.

Btw Butler haters need to remember, when he gets a night off in between games, it makes a huge difference, primarily on the offensive end. I wouldn't be surprised if Caron's production becomes more consistent in the postseason when the schedule favors his conditioning more, much like at the start of the season when he was a key scoring option.

It doesn't really address defending Gay much but if Butler can score better that offsets some of Gay's contributions and forces Gay to have to work harder on the defensive end.

If Nick Young guards Rudy look for Gay to light him up for 30. Gay can shoot over anyone!

If Nick Young gets hot he can out score Michael Jordan, so the Grizz better watch out.

Shooting and MAKING are very different things. Dude has a season high of 32... if you're pinning your hopes of winning on him dropping 30, you're sh*t outta luck!

I didn't say anything about about pinning my hopes on that. But to suggest that Nick Young would be better guarding Rudy Gay is laughable.

^ Better than who?

Gay is going to be platooned by Butler, Foye and Young... three very capable perimeter defenders. If he drives, there's a shot-blocker waiting.

why compare melo to gay i dont get it?? Melo can go off on anybody.. Hes went off with lebron guarding him, doesn't make Lebron any less of a defender.. Some players are just hard to guard.. If our bigs play the best defense then will be fine.. The paint is where this series will be won or lost..

Please, he's only had one 30 point game this season against the Matadors...err...the Suns.

I hope he tries to be a chucker in this series. You know as well as I do that the Grizzlies have a hard time playing us.

This is going to be interesting... I think Caron would be our best bet on Gay. But then again, we have options, all of them good. This is not the male and break factor of the series.

if caron averages 15 ppg throughout this series we beat the grizzlies in 5. because essentially his numbers will cancel out whatever gay does. the best way for the clips to stifle the grizzlies is to platoon the sf's (butler, young, even bobby simmons) on him. what is more concerning is the struggles of our bench. we need young, ebled and mo to outscore zbo and mayo. if we can outscore their bench, we will be in very good shape

I agree with bullterrier... The bench will play a key role in the playoffs... we may not go as deep into our bench, but it would be nice to see Simmons come in even for a minute.

cp3 is gonna do his thing. We're assuming Blake will do his thing. this means that we need consistent play from foye, mo, young, and k mart. but the 2 biggest components are DJ and Caron. Caron needs to drive in and take it to the rim. DJ needs to play good D and box out for boards. we'll win it in 5 if those 2 guys step up and our bench plays consistent.

One of the key in this series is bascially defense and rebounding. We can't allow Memphis to get many offensive rebound. If we need to win this series, rebounding will be the key. Blake and DJ must step it up and also the guards as well. No ball watching!

Ryan Gomes should give Rudy Gay advice on to pass an inbound play or jump a jumpshot.

Two words: ZONE DEFENSE

They're one of the worst 3pt shooting teams in the league. We have to exploit that. Demopoulos' "Black Zone" worked well against OKC, let's see if we can do it here.

If Gomes sees the court, we're in trouble. I'd rather see Kmart on him.

i agree. we need the effort on the defensive end for 48 minutes. stifle the grizzlies from the beginning. dont let them breathe. dont let them get into any rhythm. force them to try to beat us shooting contested shots from 3.

Since everyone always likes to talk about "playoff experience," I think it should stated that Butler actually has more of it than Gay.

It will take a defensive effort from all. from butler to young to martin. make him work. the guy that will be troublesome........gasol. cant allow him to do whatever he wants. DJ better be ready for this. needs to be focused at all times. Reggie too, and martin at end of games. gasol is the guy to fear the most.

maybe so but doing that is esier said than done, as a grizzlies fan i will tell you the best way to beat the grizz

  1. take care of the ball : our team(grizz) thrive off turnovers and fast breaks when we go long stretches of playing half court bball we look like the washington generals.. get a few steals and were the globetrotters

  2. simplify your offense no lazy passes and get back on defense

you guys do this and you steal a game in memphis win series

when its all said and done look at the games you won and games you lost and turnovers will be the deciding stat

thats how we beat them at home twice. and how we came back when we were down by 17 in memphis. we lost that game, but if we play that style we will go on to the second round.

Did you have to use your calculator to figure that out?

If you have played 1 playoff game then you have more experience than Rudy.

Our team has more experience. We have more chemistry. We were not built overnight by the NBA like Clippers were.

I actually believe the Grizz are better without Gay. Battier was a better fit. He's good though. It's going to come down to who plays better D. Memphis had a good playoff run last year and are not going to role over. To say we'll win in 5 is a longshot. I think we'll do it in 6 though. I believe this will be a good test for us and definitely prepare us for round 2. A lot like the Bulls against the Knicks. Seemed as though the knicks always prepared the Bulls for the next round. If CP3 is good we'll be fine. I think Butler, Foye, Mo, Blake,Kmart will do well. I'm just curious to see how E.B. DJ,and NY react to being in the playoffs.

The Grizzlies have experience in tanking to get to play the injured Spurs team last year. Your 2 top players haven't really played together much in 2 seasons. How good is your chemistry if the Clippers gave the 4th seed to you guys? Our team might be built overnight but you backed into our seed cause we didn't play our best player in our last game.

All in all, we're evenly matched as you can get but we beat your chemistry and experience 2 out of 3 times.

He started 63 games this year, with B2B's and B2B2B's and no sign of any knee problems. We're getting at least a day off between games during the playoffs... is that gonna be enough for snake-boy's dodgy shins?

Is there nothing to talk about on laker forums?

Losing your only real defender?

The delicate giant's questionable attitude?

Will powder-puff Gasol become the little spring flower he usually turns into at this time of year?

The fact that your team has trouble scoring over 90 and Denver puts up 103ppg?

Andre Miller going straight at Ramon con-cession's "defense"?

George Karl being able to out-coach Clown in his sleep?

Will kobe try to play the hero and shoot you out of it?

Lakers' complete lack of anything resembling a bench?

Plenty of your own issues to worry about before you start trolling here. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_18
