i listed TNT as the TV source and since they usually monopolize our viewing experience, i was wondering if this would be different for the playoffs. i remember catching ralph and mike call the games on tv last time around. anyone know?

Playoffs don't start until the home team loses! This will be a hard fought battle and I can see this going 7 games. DJ better learn to box gasol out the box and dont help out. We need rebounding and good sound defense.

^^^ Yeah, I don't know if DJ is going to start learning that now. More than likely, we'll be seeing a lot of K-Mart this series.

Anyway, I'm hyped. Can't wait for Sunday.

If we're 2-2 after Game 4 I'd be happy. I think we can steal one of these first 2.

Split these first two games and we're in control. They should be well-rested. Gotta go balls-out to take game 1.

Looking at their schedule, Memphis' April included 3 quality wins, the rest were against fluff and teams trying to get more ping pong balls in the draft, and even still most of those games went down to the wire.

Memphis and Denver have the same fundamental flaw: They don't have a star/go-to-guy. When they need baskets, they don't have a clear cut leader. So no lead they have on a team is safe.

everyone and their mother knows our biggest weakness is defending the 3. its a good thing the 3 ball isnt memphis' strength.

im most worried about memphis' ability to get those offensive boards - they're ranked 3rd in the league. its imperative for DJ to stay grounded and i worry that gasol's gonna pull him out of the paint (and out of rebounding position). gotta go get em - someone tell these guys every possession matters.

might we see more reggie for DJ out there if DJ's not showing early?

I'd love for reggie to be out there instead of DJ. he'll grab the boards that he's supposed to get, and then he'll get us a few EXTRA possessions with some offensive boards on top of that. for some reason reggie hasn't been playing lately, and that needs to change

PS sorry I edited your post, I clicked edit instead of quote -_-. gotto get used to that lol

ROUND ONE SCOUTING REPORT Eric Patten (@ericpatten) | 4/26/12 The Clippers and Grizzlies. It's maybe the best first round playoff matchup in recent NBA lore, a pair of rugged, athletic teams that pose matchup problems for almost anyone. The Grizzlies (41-25) closed the season with 14 wins in their final 17 games, including six in a row, while the Clippers (40-26) were 14-5 in their last 19. The back end of their April schedule turned out favorable for Memphis as they played home games against Cleveland and the severely undermanned Hornets and Magic. As well as taking on New Orleans (loss), Charlotte, and Minnesota....

No way man. I fully expect to win both games at home so we need to win game 1 and/or 2 on the road. If we're 2-2, that means we gotta win 2 out 3 with 5 and especially game 7 at Memphis.

I truly believe we win game 1. I'd bet money on it if I was in Vegas!

The teams that scare me are Memphis and the Lakers. We can beat anyone else including the Spurs. Those two teams have the same gritty nastiness we do. If our shots fall we're unbeatable. Paul will turn this team to wolverines.

Our big key is DJ. He can't get torched by Gasol again. Box out our Bro' .Paul is going to have to find a way to set him up for something else than dunks. Blow a posession or two and let DJ post up. His footwork has improved but he has to learn to keep the ball higher. Just one move is all he needs two dribbles and go baseline or something.Maybe he can work all day and get one.

Defenders can't sag off on BG's jumper. anymore. A pick and roll with DJ will be potent because Blake can beat any Big off the dribble and you'd also have to worry about DJ.

Give DJ perimeter shots. Is he 3 for 4 on his jumper lol MAYBE THIS IN NOT STUPID A lot of guys can shoot but not FT's. This may not be luck (fat chance)

Imagine how much criticism and hate Vinny would get if he left CP3 in with a minute to go and a 12 point lead. Just goes to show that nobody's perfect.

A big key to the game will be whether or not the Clips will come out and play defense for four quarters. If they come out coasting on D in the first quarter like they normally do, and waiting until 3 minutes left in the 4th to get hard, they aren't taking the playoffs seriously. This is a road game, and they aren't going to win it by out-shooting and out-freethrowing Memphis in Memphis.

They should be watching how Miami is playing D in the first half today. Swarming all over everybody.

Haha! James Worthy and Lisa Leslie picking the Clips to win. Talking about Reggie Foye and how we need to "cut down on those bonehead turnovers"...

I guess nobody told them we're 2nd best in the league at taking care of the ball.

I dont care what Happens tomorrow as long as we play great and fight. We can win, I hope the guys all have good games and no one has a bad game that we can all PINPOINT and blame them. If The grizzlies win with all our guys playing great so be it, but its the playoffs. Our stars and bench guys have to step it up like never before

Nick Young will have a bad game. Because that's all he has. I blame him right now. We need good games from Foye and Mo so Nick doesn't get touches.

lol this Geoff Calkins is acting like a professional troll (it helps that he looks like a total nerd).

Calkins tweeted:

Ralph Lawler sent an email: "While Ginobili may have played only 1 game, he played the balance of the series as a 1-armed player."

More: "They were not the formidable foes they would have otherwise been. If you do not understand and accept that you are in the minority."

i think there's a pretty good chance Ralph relays the message this guy's sending to the team. Ralph's known to find things like this to give the guys even more purpose. kinda like how he always tells Chris where we hold incredible losing streaks (San Antonio, Denver, etc) - and Chris follows up by taking it to another level and breaking those streaks.

thanks Geoff. (lol the dude even goes by the dork version of Jeff)

Deandre Jordan needs to be a presense. Not even offensively but he cant be a liability either. And Randy Foye will be huge...i dont even want to get too into it yet until I see what we do the first game.

oh by the way, Blake needs to get a hard foul early and manup and talk **** and get in someone face early. Zach Randolph is dirty so he is the perfect guy to do it. Randolph cant guard Blake one on one so he will get frustrated and do it. Its time for Blake to grow some balls this is the PLAYOFFS BABY!

my thoughts exactly.

hating on the players even the owner is one thing, but ralph? come on. guy is a saint. How ppl like him are called proffesional writers is beyond me.

And the fan base bought it? wow.

we should all call that number of Geoff and complain about how bad his article is or email him. What a wack article, so unprofessional. Now it makes me hate memphis even more. They had one upset victory last year in the playoff and they think they are the $hit. I hope we whoop on them so bad and send them arrogant fans back to reality.

Early Line: Memphis by 5.5, O/U 184

So, 94-89 Memphis or thereabouts.

Last three Clipper games at Memphis we scored 85, 82, 82.

Memphis avg 99 pts at home -- Clips avg 96 pts on the road

Clips defense avg 99 pts on the road. Memphis defense avg 96 at home.

It's pretty clear why the Clips are the dogs here. They are going to have to dig deep to get first game. But don't bet money on it.

You know what they are going to do: hound Chris Paul. Double off screens, chase him off, don't let him turn the corner. Make him pass to Foye. Wear him and his groin down. Make Foye and Butler make shots to beat them.

At least that's what I'd do if I was Memphis. They will make it tough to score. What should the Clippers do while they are struggling to score? Make it tougher for Memphis to score. That's our recipe to win. They have no great scores, just some good ones that can be slowed down.

we need to use the "black" zone D from the beginningto smother them. make them realize we can also defend. i also suggest the clips letting DJ shoot a 15 footer. while it may sound crazy, he has shown he can actually shoot from there. add a wrinkle to our offense. cp3 needs to penetrate, kick out to the open shooters and have our shooters make their shots. we also need our team, particularly DJ and Bg to make their FT's at a 70 percent clip. they do that, and we beat memphis in less than 6 games.
