Not sure if this has been mentioned or not, so sorry if I'm late on this.

Anyway, Tuff Juice is seeing a hand specialist today and is considering playing through the injury. Gotta love the guy. I obviously hope he can help the team, but I also hope just for his sake that he can play. He missed the entirety of the Mavs's championship run last year. It would suck if he had to miss this entire playoffs as well after getting hurt in the very first game. Anyway, here's the link.

id love to see the guy play. that would be inspiring, but idk how effective he would be, especially on D. but if anyone is tough to give it a go with a broken fifth metacarpal, its butler.

Well I mentioned in another thread that during his pregame interview yesterday he eluded to doing that if the specialist he was seeing today could rig something up. That take some stones.

I think it would affect his offense more than his D. You have to think it would affect his ball handling and his shot. On defense, it's more of an entire body thing: quick feet, bodying up a guy, hustling. I think it will have more of an effect when he has to handle the ball on offense and generally be more dexterous, for lack of a better word.

i forgot ball handling, that would be what would be most affected. plus on d he would be hesitant to try to go for deflections using that hand. but i think him being out there would definately inspire everyone to bust their asses out there given that butler has a bad injury but is playing through it. excellent post sean rooks.

Those dirty bastards will be swiping at his hand the whole game...But it's the pinky on your off hand. You're 32years old. You got a ring for free last season. Very good chance we won't be playing in 4-6 weeks if he doesn't go now.

He needs to tape it up and tough it out.

^ agreed. im sure he wants to be out there. its up to the coaching staff and training staff to let him. ive broken that same bone twice and had to punch with it during training and my muay thai fights. im sure he could wear some protection to avoid it getting that injury worsened. he could tough it out.

Hopefully he can come back because we need his defense more than his offense. Someone needs to slow down Rudy Gay.

There you go right there. You're actually using the hand in a fight, that's obviously a lot more trauma on the injury that playing ball. I'm sure it hurts but it comes down to pain tolerance.

I broke the 5th metacarcel on my foot last year. Crutches for about 10days then they had me start walking on it. It hurt bad and at first I could only walk very slowly. But it gets better fast, when you're using it. They told me after that first 2 weeks it heal faster if you use it and get the blood flowing to the injury.

I don't pretend to be an expert but the point is at the age of 32, you don't know how many more opportunties you'll have. Do whatever you can to get out there and be a part of it.

Maybe Caron Butler missing your teams playoffs is a good luck charm to win the finals. In all seriousness though, would love to have him back, but not if it was going to hurt the team. If he can play without him looking like it's a big burden then that would be great, but if not just rest it until it's ready.

With the right brace on it, he can play through that injury, said that when he first injured it, saying it again now. I suffered the same fracture and like bullterrier, I got it while sparring and kept training on it, though in my case not realizing it was actually broken until 2 weeks later. I'm assuming I'm not the only one who didn't think it was all that painful, as bullterrier kept training as well.

As long as he's careful with it and has the right brace, I think Caron should be ok to play.

^ I don't diagree with what you are saying, but there are also different types of breaks as it depends on where the bone is broken. We don't know the details and we probably won't ever know. For this reason we can say he should play, but we don't know.

Yeah, I've been awfully tough on Caron throughout the season, but he's a good guy and a playoff vet so it would be great to see him back. Plus, it sucks that he missed last years playoffs I want to see him finish this series and continue in the next!
