Yes, he can opt out but do you honestly think he will leave for a weaker team?
Do you also think Marion will opt out too? He is going to receive big money if he stays.

Yes, he can opt out, but he has repeatedly said he would not. He feels obligated to the fans and their horrible season they had to experience. After coming off of a serious injury, getting payed 17 million from the Clippers isn't bad at all.
So,
Yes he can
no he won't
Miami is a non factor. It doesn't matter. They can sign EB but he's just too obligated to us. he's a very good player |

| There is a difference between real rumors with teams actually talking about trades or players actually making comments, and blog talk and sportswriter speculation. Elton stays and maybe even gets extended this summer. But I don't think he will accept an extension unless the team commits to a winning roster and brings in another big time player. Corey.....??????????? |

Lets say he does opt out........majority of teams will not pay him the money that he would looking for because of his injury.
As for Corey, I would say that the farewell tour has already started.
Corey is having a terrific year in terms of scoring, and will help other teams out as a secondary scorer.
The tension between him and Dumbleavy will never die as long as he is coach
Sterling will not pay him the kind of money he will be asking for
With the emergence of Thornton, Sterling will keep that extra money in his pockets and use it for Brand, and an outside shooter
There are more reasons for him to sign else where than to re-sign with the Clippers. |

...just like I said, do you honestly think Marion will want to opt out????
Marion to seek Heat extension
Shawn Marion played about as well as the Heat could have expected before his recent back spasms, but their relationship will be tested this summer.
Though Marion and agent Dan Fegan aren't ready to discuss their intentions, this much is clear: Marion would like to clarify his future this summer and is expected to ask the Heat for an extension beyond the remaining year on his contract. But it's difficult to envision the Heat making that commitment.
Marion likely will not opt out of his contract's final year (worth $17.4 million), because he won't get comparable money on the open market. If the Heat shows interest in an extension, opting out would allow him to re-sign for six years -- otherwise, an extension would be limited to three years (before June 30) or four (after June 30) under league rules. But that's highly unlikely.
The Heat privately has indicated a willingness to speak to Marion about a multiyear deal, but it would be surprising if it happens because Miami covets salary-cap space in 2009.
Elton Brand, whom the Heat tried to acquire in 2003, is among players with expiring contracts that summer. (The Clippers doubt he will exercise his opt-out this summer.)
